This for me is the pinnacle. The influences are there but this is entirely it's own thing and tries to be nothing else. I can think of no other album that is so mesmerising and so effortless. A masterpiece.

I don't think I can successfully communicate the sheer level of bliss I feel when listening to this. The kind of emotional response that exceeds the trappings of post-hardcore into something truly special and complex.

October, all over. This record is my Autumn. This season is weird: leaves turn orange-brownish and don't have the same radiance they have during Spring. But I love the tones of these leaves. Autumn is beautiful in its austerity. Likewise, Unwound thrive melodically in their most abrasive sections, and display their most beautiful pieces of work in their saddest moments. They kept their noise rock and post-hardcore background to enhance it with depressing post-rock, morbid psych, textural synths, and lyrics taking a phenomenologist approach. It just sounds so... I don't know. I just don't know. Sometimes things hit you. I guess it's because of how reflective the music is. While they were first known for the urgency of their music, they slowly added an apathetic vibe to it. This passive approach is at its apex on LTIY. It's patient. It forces you to stop. As if the band already was in suspended limbos. It's kind of a pointless record. Pointless music never sounded so good.

Even without this album Unwound has one of the most solid discographies ever. But yeah this exists and deserves nothing less than a 5. Brilliant album, lyrically and musically. I want a reunion.

A lot of what I love about this record stems from the very high achievements of a record like Slint's Spiderland. Unwound's inherently rough and jagged style becomes a powerful asset with this album's graceful and nearly flawless approach to songwriting. This is a record poised for many, many listens and, in my opinion, it narrowly beats Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come as the greatest post-hardcore album ever made.

An ice-cold masterpiece that finds itself on repeat on the darkest, coldest, and most exhausting days of the year. Leaves Turn Inside You is the culmination of everything Unwound had been working up to by the beginning of the 21st century, and if you're gonna make one grand statement before disbanding, then Unwound sure as hell made a lasting impression. This is never going to stand out immediately, but it's a cryptic and ominous work of art that takes a lot of patience and deep listens. A+

This is on the verge of getting to a 5.0, but I still need more listens to fully digest it and make my mind. Despite its lengthy runtime almost every single song is catchy and memorable. The album is masterfully constructed and keeps the listener entertained throughout the record. So many jams. 4.9

wow, this puts shivers into your spine at least one point during it's long playing time, over 2 discs or records. the cd does come out into a nice two folding double album. this is a very underrated record, since it didn't sound that much like some of their older material. but it's a very moving masterpiece of astounding poignance that it is not to be missed.
