  • Judio! Sweet man, yeah I'll definitely check it out soon.
    December 15 03:28 PM
  • Artuma ok cool, will check it
    December 15 12:30 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot lol sounds good man! sorta occupied with studying for this calculus final that I doubt I'll do well on, but I'll check the review later
    December 14 06:21 PM
  • Sniff Anytime brah.
    December 14 04:00 PM
  • DoctorDoom Vertigo by Trophy Scars was amazing live. The record really flourishes in a live setting. I recommend catching one of their shows if you get a chance.
    December 11 10:20 AM
  • PFinferno I really liked your review of The Wolf and The Fox! If you have any time available do you think you could give this one a shot? I'd be much appreciated!http://forseptember.bandcamp.com/album/the-ghost-and-the-bear
    December 2 12:19 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot ...cont'd [2]you're also pretty heavy on your parenthesis: "(yes, it is so warm and fuzzy that I can describe it thusly in a serious review)" - blurbs like this seem kinda unnecessary. Now, I've had people say that about little 'jokes' I've made in my 'serious' reviews... I'm not saying you need to them (they add a little personal flavour) but do make an effort to keep them short and sweet.
    December 2 10:59 AM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot ...cont'dthere's sentences where you have a point you're making, but the sentences is bloated with unnecessary words. a good way to check this is, while writing, CTRL F words like "that", "can", "be" etc... words/phrases pretty much devoid of meaning in their own right, and ask if you can restructure your sentences to say the same thing, but more concisely. "Cloudkicker great today ? there happy, energetic melodies everywhere"- you might be missing something after "there"tbc...
    December 2 10:17 AM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot "The progressions within it are charmingly coherent and it is uplifting to see an instrumental artist present a sizable body of work that manages to be both diverse and extremely distinctive"- this sentence could benefit from a pause or 2. it's sort of a mouthful. there's a couple other sentences that could benefit from an added pause, but that doesn't really matterI think your review is overlong in places, and this ties to the point I made on your Warren of Ohms review... tbc
    December 2 10:14 AM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot sure thing, I'll give it a read a bit later. At first glance it seems pretty hefty and could maybe be condensed, but I'll know for sure once I actually read it haha
    December 1 07:41 PM
  • JasonCarne I gave it a run-through today, definitely liked what I heard, at 80 minutes though it's definitely a lot to digest, I may have to let this one sink in a few more times before I get writing.
    December 1 04:16 PM
  • JasonCarne I got your Zorn record, this beast should be a hell of a ride. I'm only familiar with his Naked City work but I bet it's absolutely bats*** insane stuff.
    December 1 03:07 AM
  • Gameofmetal Lol you got my rec for the random review game. Have fun with that metalcore album you will probably hate.
    November 30 08:14 PM
  • Gameofmetal Haha no problem. I'll give it a shot. Sounds like quite a collection of sounds.
    November 30 07:11 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot sup man. any chance you could peep my newest review and share your thoughts?
    November 29 11:52 AM
  • Veldin No, what's it called?? They're similar in the sense that they are experimental, but Bribe is a bunch of short compositions, while Spillane is 4 long ones. They are similar in the fact that they are kick-ass.
    November 26 04:56 PM
  • Lambda Not yet! It's on my wishlist though. Have you?
    November 26 10:01 AM
  • DarkNoctus all of the first three
    November 20 08:55 PM
  • DarkNoctus i just felt the re-recordings added nothing to the originals. just listen to the originals. get pirut, too.
    November 20 06:48 PM
  • Deviant. I'll post it up over the weekend
    November 19 07:46 PM
  • XingKing No worries, man. I'm just flattered someone is willingly reviewing my work lol. As for the Mad Prophet clip, that is from the film Network. Everything else you hear is me. If you click the "info" button for each song on bandcamp, there are little bits of trivia and the like that mention how some songs were named and stuff like that
    November 18 08:04 PM
  • XingKing I appreciate the kind words and will be eternally grateful for any review written. Thanks brother!
    November 18 07:27 PM
  • Mad. Hell yeah, if you're interested in a relaxed, minimalist kind of stoner/psychedelic rock that's all about the atmosphere and grooooves. As for Schizioid Lloyd, glad you're enjoying it man, go for that review if you want to, I'd be intrigued to see another opinion on it!
    November 18 01:29 PM
  • Jacquibim I'm so high right now
    November 18 05:57 AM
  • Veldin except, I think Painkiller's "Execution Grounds" is different from the new albums I've listened to.
    November 2 07:31 PM
  • Veldin Dude, I 5'd Grand Guignol. Although s/t Naked City is easier to listen to, I think I prefer GG as a piece of art. Painkiller is basically an intense Naked City, no addition of jazz, surf rock or anything - just da metalz.
    November 2 07:31 PM
  • Veldin Oh man, it's so enjoyable. Knowing that it's separated into three parts made it far less daunting. I've been slowly going through Zorn's discog chronologically and it's been an absolute delight. Thanks again for hooking me up with that stuff. Have you checked out Painkiller?
    November 2 06:42 PM
  • Deviant. Sorry dude, but outside of the year-end re-feature cycle, we typically only feature new/current releases
    October 31 11:58 PM
  • danielmoreno Hey man, I've digged your Isis countdown so much. I'm trying to make a "Top 15 - Isis" for a long time, and your list helped me in this new video that I'm making. So thank you :)Clearly you had a awful headache making it.
    October 20 10:28 PM
  • Wizard Sorry I don't dig Kayo Dots none heavy albums as much as the rest of the site. Read my reply dude ; ).
    October 15 07:45 AM
  • Veldin I got Circle Maker in it's entirety :
    September 22 08:51 PM
  • Veldin Sweet, thank you mate! I'll talk to you at a later, undisclosed time. =)
    September 22 05:01 PM
  • Veldin Yeah, I just looked at the 29 song tracklist and I agree that would be a goddamn hassle, so don't worry about it. I added you on last.fm
    September 22 04:57 PM
  • Veldin I'm cool with that as long as it's not a hassle for you. I have to go to class, but I'll be back in about three hours, so I can wait for it. Thanks again, mate!
    September 22 04:51 PM
  • Veldin Sweet, I got them. Thank you kindly, sir! I'm stoked to start digging further in Zorn's discography.
    September 22 04:41 PM
  • OmairSh Nice, enjoy your holidays. I didn't realise you were so young. What are you going to uni for?
    August 11 11:54 PM
  • OmairSh Yo Johnny what's been up
    August 3 12:06 PM
  • ScuroFantasma Reviews up now man, hope you like it. Sorry it tool longer than I anticipated.
    June 22 05:46 PM
  • ScuroFantasma Hey man, I know I told you that you could expect the review sometime this week but I've been too busy this week and haven't been able to complete it. I'm still listening to you're album though and it's really good so you can expect an honest and positive response. Plus, I released that Amity Affliction review this week and I'd prefer to have a little time between reviews, so it should be ready some time next week. Just thought I'd let you know that I haven't forgotten :).
    June 12 04:15 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Sure man, I'll no doubt require some additional info before I put the review together, but that won't be for a little while. I like the album art too, how'd that come about?
    June 6 03:20 AM
  • Judio! :) Sweet dude! Be sure to let me know what you think after you give it a listen! http://aslowdescent.bandcamp.com/album/utopias
    June 6 03:07 AM
  • ScuroFantasma I've been listening to you LP man, great stuff. I've only been through once (long album) but I've enjoyed it. I'll probably release a review for it next week sometime. I need a few days to absorb and understand the music and then another few to write the review.
    June 6 02:46 AM
  • Judio! No problem, thanks for letting me know about it! Also, if you're interested I just released a new LP for my solo project. I can give you a link to it if you want.
    June 5 06:10 PM
  • ScuroFantasma I'll give it a listen for sure man, I've done a few sput-user album reviews before so I'd definitely consider it for my next review.
    June 5 07:00 AM
  • Judio! Hey man, just jammed Archaic and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. Brilliant work dude, seriously enjoyed it. The atmosphere of each track and the album's flow made the album's concept really clear and interesting. Jane Austen, Changing Seasons, and Oh My were definite standouts. Sorry for putting it off for so long.
    May 30 08:39 PM
  • syco722 Hey man, I haven't been on here in ages but I saw that you finally put out that full-length you've been working on for a while. I'll be spinning it a good number of times over the next week or so to get a feel for it and let you know what I think. Glad to see you're still writing brother!
    May 30 06:17 PM
  • XingKing If you're interested, the next time you record a song, I would be happy to try mixing it for you. As for me, I'm still recording away at my next record. I just got the artwork done recently and it's gorgeous. I'm also writing an EP with my friend that will feature Thunder from my soundcloud! We should be dropping a new song once we record it
    May 25 08:44 PM
  • laughingman22 and thanks for listening and rating my album
    May 25 04:21 PM
  • XingKing Your compositional skills have drastically improved on your new LP, man. Keep it up!
    May 25 12:04 AM
  • Scantily ...and you got Innocent No More all right, it's about a rape-victim, I was very glad that the vision had passed through on that one.Fun to hear from you again, hope all is well.
    May 24 02:17 AM
  • Scantily Hey!So nice to hear from you! Yes, it was an honest review, but that was what I liked about it, I really had developed a similar opinion about Pure Ash Tray. No you did not, more the other way around 'cus at that point I had already started to develop some of the material that would end up on this new one, I've been thinking about that review and what your opinion would be on Dissolution. Nice! Yes, if you feel like making a review on it feel free to do so, would be interesting to read.
    May 24 02:15 AM
  • NationalRadio So do I. I could maybe help a bit but I'm no pro
    May 22 06:44 PM
  • NationalRadio what program are you using?
    May 22 03:01 PM
  • NationalRadio The actually music and notes are really good. The production is holding it back (which I'm sure you might feel the same). If it was professionally produced it could be the most epic thing ever. Really. Like really epic. Sitting at like a 3.75 for me
    May 22 01:40 AM
  • NationalRadio Sweet I'll check it out in the morning
    May 21 01:00 AM
  • Judio! lol no complaints. Still gotta jam your album, will hopefully get around to it today.
    May 20 05:56 PM
  • Shuyin thanks man, but the songs sound awful in media player, something about the wow effect and low frequencies.. idk, ill fix it and re-release the whole thing when i have the time
    May 20 05:37 PM
  • Shuyin yea, some ambients/tribals/post rocks and whatever, space theme. but the production is bad.. check this song, if you dig then you may actually enjoy the album http://mindofanantagonist.bandcamp.com/track/eta-carinae
    May 20 05:26 PM
  • Shuyin thats all there is to it, when i force myself to write something it always turns out lolbad, but when i do it for the fun theres actually interesting stuff happening, also, i wanted to stop at 69 but then i went all kvlt n stuff
    May 20 05:19 PM
  • Shuyin sweet, im really digging these synths. i was listening to the stream but after checking the first song i just had to dl the whole thing, so chilling right now
    May 20 04:56 PM
  • Shuyin im halfway through and damn, those guitars are top notch and everythings really well written and levelled
    May 20 04:41 PM

    May 19 08:43 AM
  • Scantily Hey! You reviewed my album Pure Ash Tray a couple of years ago, and since I've been working on the follow-up. It's done now, under my new artist-name Rikky, you'll find it on www.rikky.bandcamp.com . Would love if you could review it, I thought the last review was really good and this new album is really something different compared to the first one.
    May 18 09:42 AM

  • OmairSh THERE'S A FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE IN THE SKYYY
    October 13 09:09 AM
  • UnnamedOcean I haven't listened to it quite enough yet. It was overall very solid, but didn't grab me as much as Garden Window, but that one was quite a grower so we'll see.

  • apert haha haven't even thought of 100 dead rabbits for years, truly terrible band. I had noticed your profile before but dismissed it as a coincidence, but when i saw that post on facebook and checked your sput profile i was pretty sure you were the same person. First person i actually know on the site
    August 29 09:51 PM
  • apert yeah, we're friends on facebook, I'm Pete Thom btw. We must have at Iwerne a few years back all out mutual friends are people i met there. I won't mention it then, the school i went to is pretty much as posh anyway. Really small world
    August 29 09:38 PM
  • syco722 Thanks brother, that means a lot! And that is fantastic. I've been wanting to hear some of your midi tracks with real instruments for quite some time now!
    August 27 01:14 PM
  • OmairSh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_tNNK7WJng
    August 23 10:20 PM
  • syco722 Hahaha no problem man, I hope you enjoy it! I've been giving your album a few spins lately and I've decided that "Cauterizing Astral Wounds" and "They Never Knew What They Missed" are my favorite tracks. Any plans for new material, good sir?
    August 21 10:01 PM
  • Deviant. Oh wait, someone had put the release date for the album as June, which would have made it a little late for a feature. I've changed it, and featured it!
    August 21 07:18 AM
  • Deviant. Remind me over the weekend and I'll feature it (only because the album has been out for 2 months already)
    August 21 05:20 AM
  • SucDePortocale thank you very much sir
    August 20 07:25 AM
  • OmairSh That's cool, where did you go might I ask? I haven't even checked the old kayo dot, where should I start?
    August 13 11:35 AM

    August 8 11:17 PM
  • Gintoh Could you please add the fact that there is yet another new kayo dot track streaming on npr in the news. For some reason it wont let me add the news: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2013/08/01/207932250/vikings-choice-kayo-dot-sums-up-a-decade-of-sonic-transgression-in-thief
    August 2 11:30 PM
  • Insurrection haha glad you like it man, seriously one of my favorite albums ever. you should check the human abstract. theyre a similar prog metal style but without the insane operatic vocals
    August 2 04:49 PM
  • ChuckyTruant Yeah, I have a Bare Knuckle Painkiller in my RGA. It is very nice. Super super defined and very clear. Decent harmonics and great note separation. Oh also tons of sustain and not very compressed at all. Unfortunately just its uber tight bass and EQ curve make it a bit thin and weak. BKP makes real nice(albeit super expensive) stuff
    July 31 10:58 PM
  • ChuckyTruant It was my old 7421 from 1999, but I ended up with Dimarzios. Evolution in the bridge and Liquifire in the neck.
    July 24 02:04 PM
  • Insurrection i gotta say kezia is still my favorite pth, you should give that one a shot. a lot less wank and more emotionz
    July 23 04:06 PM
  • Ignimbrite Well, that's by far the best track on the EP, but the whole thing is still a solid 4 and the rest is still really good.
    July 23 12:26 PM
  • Ignimbrite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xVg4CpxNQI - this song is why you need to get the Isis EPs, or SGNL at the very least. brilliant, overlooked stuff.

    July 5 06:31 PM

    July 3 11:50 AM

    July 1 02:33 PM
  • elbaliem nice username.so you are a big fan of anathema, do you ever watch them live?
    June 29 01:08 PM
  • elbaliem agreed,judgement is such a grower,but i don't have an account on last.fm
    June 29 12:56 PM
  • syco722 No problem man! It's a great album, I knew you were more than able to put out something fantastic like this. But as a matter of fact I just finished up the first song for the new WMM a few days ago and the writing pace for this one is slower than ever, but hopefully I'll have it finished by August.
    June 29 11:55 AM
  • elbaliem how long you've listened to anathema?i found them last month and i love it.
    June 29 11:48 AM
  • UnnamedOcean Well keep up the good work! I'd like to hear what you can do by embracing the electronic and ambient parts.
    June 28 11:43 AM
  • UnnamedOcean There is some really interesting stuff I like on your album. Some of the electronic bits are very cool. The album art is nice as well. I'd be interested to see what you could write in a band setting.
    June 28 03:02 AM
  • heyadam I'm diggin' The Last Arboretum man. good stuff!
    June 28 02:05 AM
  • syco722 Just finished my first listen and I've got to say I really enjoyed it man. I was using some decent speakers for once and I forgot I wasn't listening to a signed band for a good while there, so great work on both the production and music (also I really dig the artwork). I'll be giving this a good number of listens in the very near future and beyond broski.
    June 27 08:22 PM
  • Necrotica Sure bro! I'll get on it tonight :]
    June 27 04:19 PM
  • Jom What's your album so I can have a look?
    June 27 12:30 PM

    April 22 02:53 PM
  • DarkNoctus thank you very much!! i'm currently working on a split that should be out within the next month (a much faster song, rather alcesty but heavier) and the album should be out before the end of the year - it's all written, all ready to be recorded. 5 songs, about an hour in length, one song 25 or so minutes long. i'm excited to record it! • OmairSh Yes you do my friend. Yeah I think it's a decent album, has some good feels even if the production is average and the album feels linear.
    April 5 11:16 AM

  • CaptainDooRight album is done: http://trvth.bandcamp.com/album/black-horse-plague
    April 2 04:41 AM
  • Yazz_Flute Well, if you don't have access to a live drummer, I'd at least suggest lowering them in the mix - especially during sections where they're most exposed. Definitely keep going at it, though.
    April 1 06:49 PM
  • Yazz_Flute That's not really a knock at your writing at all, if you noticed; I thought there were some good ideas present. And it goes without saying, but nothing that say in anonymity over the internet should hold much gravity if you're personally satisfied :)
    April 1 12:57 AM
  • Yazz_Flute A lot of it had to do with the production of the drums and synths. Part of it may be that I'm a percussionist myself, but I just loathe hearing drum machines/filters. I think you presented some motifs with potential, such as the piano in the first three tracks, but you didn't expand upon them as much as I would have liked.
    April 1 12:55 AM
  • toxin. Yeah, most likely you will find stuff to enjoy in Native.
    March 31 06:41 PM
  • syco722 Alright apparently I lied, I just finished up the review and since it's my first, it has to be approved, but it should be up soon! My apologies if it's just horrible, writing is not one of my strong suits haha.
    March 21 03:25 PM
  • syco722 Thank you so much, that was a damn good review my friend. It really does mean a lot that you care enough to actually take the time to write out a review, and hopefully you'll enjoy my review as much as I enjoyed yours. I wrote the main bulk of it last night so hopefully I'll have it finished tonight! I'll let you know once it's up; I sincerely hope it gets you some more fans because you certainly deserve it.
    March 21 02:33 PM
  • syco722 I'm absolutely loving it man. I've started on a review but of course my abysmal and horrific lack of writing ability is making it rather difficult, so we'll see how it turns out! But hopefully it won't take too terrible long.
    March 20 07:43 PM
  • syco722 Ah yes! Will listen to this multiple times today my friend; hopefully my brain feels up to the task of writing a review for you once the album has sunk in enough.

    February 13 02:28 PM
  • syco722 That sounds so awesome, I'm going through the old EP just to prepare; I'm glad I could be something of an influence my man, surely your music will sound a hell of a lot better than mine though haha
    February 12 03:35 PM
  • syco722 Haha no worries man I know exactly how that can be, I hope you find some time soon though! Also stoked to hear that EP so keep me posted brother.
    February 12 01:29 PM
  • syco722 EY DAWG, how's that album coming along man? I hope you're close to finished, but of course art takes some time.

  • OmairSh There's a lot of passion in classical Pakistani music, we also have a s*** mainstream scene like everyone else, and you have to dig deep to find gems. This songs Indian "Madari" the vocal melodies are trancesque http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQEaZC4-yXQ, Incredible vocals on this one -
    February 11 04:24 PM
  • OmairSh Yeah SLS is a gooood album and Volte is good and has some great transitions, but SONGs is growing on me. But Riversides older stuff is fantastic dude, I know you'll enjoy it. You should also listen to "I turned you down" and "reality Dream 3", terrific songs.
    February 11 03:54 PM

    January 23 05:54 PM
  • syco722 That's great man I'm stoked to hear some recorded material from you! If I find the words then I'll definitely attempt a review. Be sure to let me know as soon as you've got it up; I'm honored that my music can be compared to yours haha. As for the compilation, it's really the start of what I've decided to do with WMM from here on out, which is to annually release a collection of EPs and wrap them all up into one release once the year is finished. Shooting for some major sound changes this year.
    January 23 05:12 PM
  • OmairSh I thought you would've enjoyed Escalator Shrine
    January 22 04:15 PM
  • OmairSh Yeah they played it very safe with this one, it's their most "mature" record according to the band leader, and it shows. It's not really commercial but I think they wanted to increase their listener base, and you can't blame them. Well on the plus side if you decide to check their other albums out you'll hopefully be pleasantly surprised. I've made a list ranking their albums and EP's.
    January 22 04:14 PM
  • OmairSh So you've got the new Riverside
    January 22 09:16 AM

    January 20 07:27 PM
  • DarthMann hahah bro the dear hunter never stood a ****ing chance
    January 20 06:04 PM
  • OmairSh The atmoshperic elements of the bands music is what made me fall in love with them but I was hoping they'd balance the aggression and ambience with the addition of experimental elements. Anyway patience is the best virtue, or so I've heard.
    January 18 04:49 AM
  • OmairSh I thought you were American. Anyway yeah let me know when you've done The Beginning and the Ends solo, but I'll have to be in the right mode to appreciate it fully :P. Btw I read a few reviews of the new Riverside and it turns out it's much more atmosphere inclined without too much aggression, quite like their debut. So if your friend like the riffs of Celebrity touch he miiight be slightly disappointed :P, guess we'll have to wait and see.
    January 18 04:29 AM
  • OmairSh Whats your youtube page btw?
    January 17 05:19 PM
  • OmairSh I've heard the latest 2 albums properly and they focus more on the atmospheric aspect of the bands music, a few of the older songs are different, some are jazz fusion inclined, some are techno inclined and a little quirky yeah. But their latest album is definitely worth listening to imo. Lots of emotion and passion up in there.
    January 17 05:10 PM
  • OmairSh Have you heard No-Man? No-Man is another group of Steven Wilsons (actually it's his first band)
    January 17 05:00 PM
  • OmairSh Damn I think he has the potential to love the band more than I do :P. Hopefully the album will be good, it's being released in Poland tomorrow, you guys in the US have to wait a few weeks longer unfortunately.
    January 17 02:53 PM

  • OmairSh "Celebrity Touch" Official music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAqU-RDnYyY
    January 14 12:13 PM
  • OmairSh Celebrity Touch has some great riffs and the guitars and keyboards sound great, esp the Hammond (The keyboardists idol was Jon Lord and his influence seeps in a lot, but in a very very good way, plus I'm a sucker for the Hammond Organ :-) ). But I'm hoping for some more edgy and refreshing music from their upcoming album, fingers crossed.
    January 13 02:10 PM
  • OmairSh The bands renowned for mixing incredible atmosphere with some great aggression, and recently they've been focusing slightly more on the aggression, but they do both really well but it was definitely the spine tingling atmospheric elements that made me fall in love with them.
    January 13 02:08 PM
  • OmairSh Check out Celebrity touch and I turned you down on youtube if you want. Damn it feels like I'm friggin marketing the band, aight I don't mean to sound desperate I just think you'll dig this band.
