 | fr33convict the day an income of zero doesn't cut it. You've got to invest in this s*** full time if you're an artist and uou most definitely should support your favorite artists as a fan. So yeah super long rant over. You may have to click view more to read this whole thing at this point.
 | fr33convict That would be around 500 sales. That's $2500 and doesn't cover half of what it cost to record. Playing a around 30 gigs a year you might make back the other half. You've wasted countless hours of hard work and have maybe a thousand fans to show for it. I'm not trying to be a whine bitch, but something I pour my blood sweat and tears into I would love to hear a little more back then from "you guys are good! I downloaded your album of mediafire and it was good keep it up!" because at the end of

 | fr33convict It's not really an argument of whether you should or shouldn't love music or care about getting rich. I mean hell my current band gave our first EP out for free and still do. It's just that anything you give the artist helps and yeah you can get it for free but at the end of the day its (1) illegal and (2) really hard to combat, especially with a band with a small fanbase. Let's say half my last bands fanbase bought our album (which is a lot but bear with me you'll see the point in the end).
 | fr33convict dprry for the rant and I don't know if you agreed with someone else or changed your view later on in the thread or whatnot but I just felt like explaining it to you from a perspective that is really rarely represented in arguments like that one.
 | fr33convict and don't bring up label support. Labels won't pick up an artist unless they have a label-ready fanbase and what not already. The more time and hard work you invest into it is directly proportional to how close you get to making it, getting signed, etc.,. To get a good label interested you've got to be working at more than a few hours a day. You can't do this s*** part time. That's just not how it works.
 | fr33convict Seriously, where the hell do you think an artist is going to get around $5000 to put out a release? Everyone points to live shows and let me tell you this: we make around $2 per head that shows up for us at a show. We make around $5 per CD. Which do you think an artist needs more?
 | fr33convict I'm a musician and I have to say you seem to have a lot of skewed ideas regarding the music industry. It just doesn't work as some hobby. Let me just throw some numbers at ya. $300 and hour to record at a good studio. You'll probably spend four or five of those at least setting up the drums. Overall, you're in it at least a couple grand to track your typical full length release. A few hundred more for good mastering. Without a doubt a few grand towards promotions, advertisements, etc.,.
 | robin yeah, i absolutely cannot wait for i am very far now. best band.

 | VheissuCrisis You seem to like most of the indie i do, we're not so different you and I. I'm very picky about Indie, any bands similar to the Antlers, NMH, The National, Foals, that i'm missing out on?
