| Summary: A horrorcore masterpiece. |
11 of 18 thought this review was well written
Throughout my "music listening career" I have become enthralled with various albums in various genres at various times. I have become lost in multiple magnum opus's. I have basked in the beauty of Sing the Sorrow, I have braved the insidious depths of Jane Doe, I have even become slightly mad over Second Stage Turbine, or at least at times it feels that way. However there is only one true place where I find true solace, somewhere that is truly mine. The Great Milenko, The Dark Carnival.
In dealing with a group so unique and so misunderstood there will always be dichotomy, this is an inevitable factor in dealing with the group that relish under the moniker known asThe Insane Clown Posse. To understand the complexity of The Great Milenko you would first have to interpret and comprehend The Dark Carnival itself. This is itself is a task only a select few will accomplish and even more will despise. However I'll will interpret the album for you as a musical entity only in the swiftest simplest way I can the you can decide if you want to dwell further, or if you will write away this album in disgust. All is entirely up to you and thus we begin.
This album is dark, disgusting and vile in every sense. "Boogie Woogie Wu" childishly describes multiple murders in all sorts of monsterous fashions from stabbing broomsticks in craniums to the malicious dismemberment of heads, foots, and children's toes. All this played over a slick and creepy beat backed by a young female vocalist for extra depth. "Halls of Illusion" tells of a bleak reality of abuse, crack addiction, and ultimately death.
When they were kids you used to beat them and leave them at home
and even whip them with the chord of the telephone
and that reminds me man you got a call
watch you step to hell it's a long fall.
The message many will mistake for putrid lyricism is actually a lesson of our actions as humans. Nothing goes without a consequence, in the end we will get what we deserve and no less. "What is a Juggalo?" serves as a shallow but catchy description of a Juggalos more deviant side. "The Neden Game" sets place as a gameshow where the contestants try to win the heart of a lovely sounding woman and the outcome is beyond hilarious. The whole song, as with all the others, are held together with great mixing skills and varied rapping from the duo.
So in a nutshell that is the fourth "Jokers Card'. The best out of the six in my honest opinion. Chock full of quirky delights with hidden messages overlooked by most and cherished by their followers.
Your death comes wikid painful and slow at the hands of Milenko

I still know very little about this album. I know what each song is about, but you practically refuse to talk about how they are lyrically geared towards 12 year olds. I'm thinking you're looking into it a bit much, especially if you think this is commentary on the actions of all humankind vs some morons chilling in a trailer park and wanting to beat up their children. Because crack addictions aren't things that come inherently with human nature.
If one traces your line of thought and applies it to other bands, the only thing they would lyrically have to do for a 5 would be talk about the bad things someone has done, and also the afterlife. So in other words, every Christian band ever would get a 5(for the most part).
You mention the instrumentals at one point, but you really don't go at all past that. You are rating a thought process rather than the music.

lol right on.

I agree with musicaddiction. You make almsot no mention of the actual music or atmosphere (if any) and focus only on the lyrics and even there you only give a handful of examples from a couple of songs.
You dont really give any real reason why this is a classic.

This isn't a 1, it is their magnum opus.
But that says literally nothing considering the group themselves are trash.

My mistake is that I didn't go more in depth, I can see that now and I will remember that for next
time.
Edit: I still think I did a good job of summing it up. I like reviews that are shorter and less of a
chore to read and I'm happy with the review.

Yeah, I felt like my first review was a bit generalised; it's hard to get that balance. You have a pretty good knack of putting a case across though, dude - it'd be interesting to see you review a different band, to give your views on ICP some context.
