Review Summary: Cradle of DAMN THIS IS FILTHY
Cradle of Filth is a band that most metal fans know. They broke into the "mainstream" metal scene in 2000 after the classic
Midian was released on Halloween. However, a lot of people don't know THIS version of Cradle of Filth....
Before the release of their debut album
The Principle of Evil Made Flesh in 1994, Cradle released 4 demos of unadulterated, evil black/death metal unlike anything they've done before. The best of them being this one,
The Black Goddess Rises.
This demo is just under a half hour long assault on your ear drums. The production is staticy and raw as hell. There is riffs galore to be found on this demo generally favoring a death metal sound overall. The whole demo really gives off an old school death metal vibe like something you'd hear on a Demilich album.
Cradle never forgets to provide some melody though. Honestly for the time period (1992), they could be considered one of the first bands to mix raw black/death metal with keyboard melodies in the background.
If you're a hardcore fan of Cradle of Filth like we all know I am, this demo is an absolute essential. This is Cradle at their rawest, dirtiest and downright offensive. *** the romance, bring on the RIFFZ.
