Review Summary: Shine on you Crazy Diamond is the best by Pink Floyd.
An overlooked album that needs no skips.
Play it all the way through. Hello all,
Let's talk some Pink Floyd today. A classic 60s 70s blues, hypnotic, rock band. When we just hear the name Pink Floyd we can't deny the first album that comes to mind is Dark Side of the Moon. That is no accident, Dark Side is one of the best rock albums of all time, hands down. However when it comes from a critical stand point, it is not Pink Floyds best album. Sure the album is loaded with number one hits all the way through but if you want the best Pink Floyd album you have to listen to Wish You Were Here (WYWH). I don't want to call it a theme album but it just has a great flow. This gem holds Pink Floyd's greatest song Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I know that WYWH is no hidden Pink Floyd nor is it a deep track. However, with a band as big as Pink Floyd this seemingly small album is left in the shadows to their two massive albums Dark Side and The Wall.
The Album starts with Shine on you crazy diamond parts 1-5. Don't you dare hit skip. Invest in some noise cancelling headphones and crank that sucker up. It's play time is around 15 minutes and you will be hooked every second. From deep blues riffs off of Gilmours guitar and a slow rolling drum line from Mason. Water's lyrics in this album are next to none. This song is overpowered with instruments that when Waters finally starts to sing it just adds a beautiful touch to the song. After this song you are greeted with Welcome to the Machine. An under reviewed PF song but plays into this album perfectly. Considering that Welcome to the Machine was the least popular song on this album you already know this is going to be a classic.
Side two of the original vinyl starts with Have a Cigar, my father's personal favorite. Unbelievable song, just saying how impersonal the music business is. How big record labels don't care about anything but money. Wish you were here the albums title song is next and although it is not my favorite PF song it is certainly up there. The song was recorded with radio static so it would always sound like that warm and gritty radio sound. A light acoustic guitar and poetic lyrics, it sure makes PF top list of greatest songs. The album ends with Shine on you Crazy Diamond parts 6-9. What a powerful ending, not a note out of place. There's not a single song you need to skip on this album. Play it all the way through, you will not regret it.
Go home, pull the shades, put on your noise cancelling headphones and listen closely to Wish You Were Here (album) by Pink Floyd. Enjoy
-L.D.

Not a bad review but completely unnecessary. Also, WYWH an overlooked album? No way. Really liked the writing approach though, very comfortable and gave the sense of discussion. Props for that.

Nice review of a great album, especially when it comes your debut.
"Not a bad review but completely unnecessary."
I disagree. People told me the same with my debut too, with my review about "Selling England By The Pound". Despite we have many other reviews here about this album, the members have the right to review all what they whant, even if they hadn't a different perspective of the album.
"An overlooked album?"
I disagree too. But I agree when it's compared to "Dark Side Of The Moon".
Happy new year and welcome to Sputnik, dude. So, have a pos.

The members can review anything they want, but I can also tell my opinion whether I like it or not. It's not that I utterly detest seeing a new review about WYWH, but it's one giving it a 5 and praising the album, in a series of others doing the same.
There are so many other noteworthy and truly overlooked albums on here that we users should focus on reviewing.

'overlooked'
I beg your pardon?
otherwise, nb. The voice in my head read the review in the style of a 60s radio drama narrator, which I enjoyed.

I agree with you Mythodea. But for a new member it's perfectly normal to begin with something he loves very much and well known too. It's very hard begin with something unusual or less known to be read here, as I know very well. If you see all my reviews here, if I'm not wrong, the review with more views and replies is the review about "The Wall". And when I put it here, there was already 9 reviews about it. By the other hand, the review about "Fish Out Of Water" of Chris Squire, the only until now, is the review with less views and has only 13 replies, despite it was made more than 1 year ago. And this is a noteworthy and truly overlooked album and it was also my homage to Chris when he passed away.
So, unfortunately many people on Sputnik, in general, prefer see and comment what they know already and not search for something new.

A debut review should be about anything the user desires it to be, if only to just get their feet wet and get into the swing of it. Nothing unnecessary about that
Top 3 Floyd (in no order) is like Live in Pompeii, Is There Anybody out There?, and then Animals or WYWH
| | | Animals is best Floyd for me.
| | | Album Rating: 4.5
Probably a basic pick but Dark Side is tops from what I've heard (their big four and first two)
| | | Ryus is right on the money, although these days I tend to favor dark side more than animals, probably because I overplayed animals
