Review Summary: Unoriginal, but there is a glimmer of hope.
Egypt Central is a very hit or miss band for me. They have some impressive singles that are catchy, but they adhere to the norms of hard rock far too much. They don't experiment much, they simple do what other bands of have done well. This makes them, to some, a new sensation since they are still very unknown to the population. Though they have some interesting singles, I would not label them as a "sensation" by any means.
Their debut album does well with some singles. Songs like "Taking You Down" and "You Make Me Sick" are very catchy and entertaining, however they bring nothing new to the table. They simply feel like another hard rock band doing exactly what bands like Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, and Bullet For My Valentine have all done. The guitar and drums fit well, and the vocalist, John Falls, has an impressive set of lungs (though if you see them live you may be in for a surprise), however it felt like there needed to be something more. Then I heard their single "Home", an acoustic heartbreak song. The difference with home and the rest of the album is, one, the fact that it's an acoustic song, which is a very sharp turn from the rest of the album. It also has no screaming and no drums. It shows what this band is capable of without having to adhere to the stereotypes of hard rock. And that gives me hope for this band in the future.
This album, on the other hand, was only decent. There were few other songs I enjoyed. I feel like this band could do great things, but if they stick with what they recorded on this album, I don't see much for them in the future. I hope to see more good things from the future!
