Review Summary: From burping ABC's to kissing girls, and metrosexual boyfriends. Sounds like a teenage girl that hasnt grown up. But Katy Perry has something special about her, and this is just the begining of the career. [This is my first review so leave comments, d

Mainstream music comes and goes nowadays it can be hard to keep up, and a singer could have a great year with two or three hit pop songs, but then never heard from again the next year. Katy Perry is a great exception to this though, and although her debut album One Of The Boys is not anything near perfect, it shows potential for Perry.

One Of The Boys
The opening and title track of the album, not to metion the most overlooked single off the album due to being outshined by other singles released at the same time. The song is very cliche and all-arond not very impressive. Its about a girl who can skate and burp the ABC's but doesnt want to be"one of the boys", just the homecoming queen. This is also one of the songs Perry wrote byherself on the album, and it shows, but with a little bit more polishing, her lyrical ability could improve, but for now she should stay as the cowriter. 3/5

I Kissed A Girl
No doubt you've probably all heard this song somewhere. This is clearly just a song intended to draw people into the album as a catchy fun song, not to show off Perry's true musical ability (beleive it or not she does actually have some). Thankfully the album gets only better (for the most part) from this droll and frankly annoying les-fest. 3/5

Waking Up In Vegas
This is probably the most caty song on the album, "thats what you get for waking up in vegas!" Its also the most recent single, and a music video is currently being filmed in Vegas. Probably the best song thus far in the album, but no where near the best on the full album. Over all a pretty good song though, but since it hasnt hit the radio yet it is currently unknown if it can live up to the other singles off the album. 3.5/5

Thinking Of You
This is the song that kicks most of all the other tracks asses, it tells the story of a regretful cheating girl and explores the remorse shes feeling. And suprise suprise, its written by just Perry. She did a much better job on the lyrics with this one, than One Of The Boys. A good song that a lot of people can relate too overall. 5/5

Mannequin
One more song written by just Perry, and sadly its a disaster. Music and lyric wise. This is defanitly the lowest point on the album, its cheesey and unoriginal. "Your not a man, your just a mannequin!" The song starts out with a big build up, making it seem like the chorus will be explosive, but Perry's voice quickly goes flat and boring. Leaving the whole song just the same. If your CD player is going to skip, hopfully its on this song. 2/5

Ur So Gay
This is a great song to be placed in the middle of the album. Its different from her other work. It gives the album a urban and almost bitchy tone to the album. Its funny, catchy, and quit frankly havent we all seem these people that this song is about? The guys who wear make-up and spend more time getting ready in the bathroom than girls do. The ones who think their deep and emotional, and tells everyone about it on myspace. Defanitly makes up for Mannequin. 4.5/5

Hot n Cold
The last "big hit song" on the album. Although its not emotional, deep, or meaningful. Its actually a good song to let loose too. But that only goes so far. This is the kind of song that will be just like every other hit pop song, forgotten in a year or less. 3/5

If You Can Afford Me
This is Perry's "don't treat me like a slab of meat song" Similar to No Doubts cover of It's My Life. Not the best song on the album, but defanitly not bad either. Worth a listen or two. Overall though its a pretty hohum song, and probably wont stand out too much. 3/5

Lost
Another one of Perry's stabs at being emotional. It's not a bad song at all, but it can't live up to Thinking Of You or the other tracks on the album, making it seem pretty filler thus far into the album. But either way, its a pretty good track on its own (check out the Ur So Gay-EP) 3.5/5

Self Inflicted
Sounds like an emo anthem, but its actually a great song, one of my favorites on the album actually. Its about the emotional storm that falling in love with someone can be. Sounds cheesey, but its really not when you actually listen to it. Its proof that a good dance song doesnt have to be about clubs, drugs, sex, and typical break-ups. 5/5

I'm Still Breathing
One last emotional song. Although its not as good as Thinking Of You Still, its better than Lost by a mile. Although it may seem filler on the first listen. Its still very strong song on its own, even though it doesnt show off much vocal abiltiy. Nice song though altogether. good for singing when no one else is around. 4/5

Fingerprints
Who ever decided to put this track at the end of the album is a total dumbass. This is the best song on the whole album in my opinion (come to think about it, all the best songs on this album are at the end). So hopefully I Kissed a Girl and Mannequin havent forced you to stop your CD player yet, because this song is worth the wait. 5/5

Overall this album has its ups and downs, but this is just Perry's first album, hopefully in the future she can make an album that strips out the filler, and cheeseyness. I know theres talent some where inside Katy Perry, this album just doesnt quite show it all.

-Thinking of You
-Ur So Gay
-I'm Still Breathing

Studio version of spunky young pop-punker works surprisingly well....

Try to avoid the track-by-track review. One can only get so far only describing the songs on the album.

I'd suggest re-reading your review, there are various typos and grammar issues. I found your introduction confusing. "Katy Perry is a great exception to this though", she's yet to follow up on this album, we can't tell if she's disappeared or not. Also, this isn't her debut album, 'Katy Hudson' was released in 2001.
