Review Summary: A perfect debut from a basically perfect band.

AiC fans are pretty common on this site I've noticed.AiC is a band that was,and is capable of making great music. So much so that the first four songs on facelift became singles. We die young, man in the box,sea of sorrow, and bleed the freak all became instant hits on rock radio, with videos being played on mtv quite often(back when mtv was cool).

AiC fans have long debated over whether facelift or dirt is their best album.Everyone has thier opinion, but facelift made way for the shape of things to come.Facelift is full of dark, tormented, and somewhat depressing songs. But Layne Staley sings with so much emotion that when I first heard the chorus to man in the box,I seriously felt the power of layne's voice push me back like a gust of wind.

The beauty, power, and downright awesomeness cannot be denied. There is art to be found in all 12 songs of this album. The passion in love, hate, love, the funky grooves of I know somethin'bout you,and the humor in real thing(sexual chocolate, baby.Which I found hilarious by the way.)

If you are a fan of hard rock at all you owe to yourself to pick this up.It could help you out in troubled times,it did for me.

reccommended tracks:
man in the box
bleed the freak
love,hate,love
real thing
Pro's:everything
Con's:nothing

What's the deal here? I've noticed lately that some new users aren't putting spaces after periods, commas, and other punctuation marks. Is this something new that's being taught in schools?

And about the review, it's not exactly bad, but it's not really good either. I mean, I know what you're getting at, but it's incredibly vague. Lines like, "There is art to be found in all 12 songs of this album" don't really help at all in giving a feel for the album. Also, there is pretty much no structure to your review. For example, the second paragraph begins by juxtaposing Facelift and Dirt against each other, but then ends with a weak analysis of Layne's voice. Where is the connection between these two subjects?

What you should try to do is to go into depth and be more specific. With the exception of a few grammatical errors, your writing isn't bad, and I'm sure you'll be able to handle a more analytical writing approach with no problem. This Message Edited On 07.03.07

Yeah, this album is kinda bad. And the review isn't too great either. Like superfascist said, you need to actually put spaces after punctuation. It gets very, very annoying. Also, tone down on the fanboyism. Seriously, it's enough to make someone throw up.This Message Edited On 07.03.07

Sorry about the lack of spaces. I was typing this quickly because I just wanted to get it done. The somewhat excessive fanboyism wasn't really intentional, but whatever.

'AiC fans have long debated over whether facelift or dirt is their best album'

I take Jar Of Flies and Unplugged over both of those. Facelift is growing and growing on me, but Down In A Hole and Rooster make it so difficult to choose. I'd probably still go with Dirt, but Man In The Box is probably Staley's best EVER vocal performance on one song. It's really so hard to choose.

The review was ok. This: 'Layne Staley sings with so much emotion that when I first heard the chorus to man in the box,I seriously felt the power of layne's voice push me back like a gust of wind.' was really good. Unfortunately, that quote was nearly 1/4 of the actual review. If you're trying to do a short review, I think it's better to do more than you did. You simply didn't have enough space to sum up the album with your writing style.

the first 6 songs are great, then it goes downhill fast, too much glam influence in the second half.

I would appreciate Doppelganger and Two-Headed Boy explaining their reasoning as to why they feel this album sucks. And Joseph99, of course there will be glam influence in this album. You DO know Alice in Chains started as a glam band called Alice 'N' Chainz right? Let's also not forget the fact that this album was their debut and was released in 1990.

How can anyone say this album sucks? This is my favorite AIC, granted it needs a few slower ballads. If "I stay away" and "Rooster" were on this it would be unreal.
