Review Summary: Motley Crue's best album, revolving on heavy riffs, and with musical themes such as sex and drugs. If your looking for the definition of glam metal, Motley Crue is the band, and if your looking for Motley Crue, this is the album.

Motley Crue. Those two words define Glam Metal. Known for not only their kick ass music, but for drug usage, sex, and big hair. The leather wearing, hair-spraying, goupie magnet. No other band dared do what to them was a reflex. From pissing on police cars to setting hotel rooms on fire, Motley Crue were the bad boys of rock n roll. The line-up of the band changed a few times, but the original members returned after a few years. The classic line-up consisted of
Vince Neil-Vocals
Mick Mars-Guitar
Nikki Sixx-Bass
Tommy Lee-Drums

This album was released following Girls, Girls, Girls. Before this album, the band members (each having their own personal battles) decided to go through rehab, Nikki for drugs, Vince and Tommy for alcohol, but Mick quit cold turkey. After sobering up, the members of Crue decided to record an album they could all be proud of, one which they wrote with out the mind altering drugs, and out popped Feelgood. This album was Motley's heaviest, and had some of the best written licks. Dr. Feelgood is arguably Motley Crue's best album, and its my personal favorite.
On this album, there are 16 tracks, including the intro, and im gonna, you know, write about them. k, here i go

1 T. N T.(Terror 'N Tinseltown)-This is simply an introduction, but it ads a good effect to the following track, Dr. Feelgood

2. Dr. Feelgood-Well, its kinda obvious this is the title track. This track is a Motley classic, it starts with what feels like a crash into a heavy lick, followed by a mainly harmonic solo. The solo later leads into the chorus, after which Vince comes in with a change to the verse. The lyrics talk about a drug dealer(Dr. Feelgood) who lives as king of the streets, untill he gets brought down. After a few verses and choruses, the song repeats the intro, where Mick takes his mainly harmonic solo, and changes it into what seems like bluesy shredding, after which the music for the chorus plays as a demonic voice speaks. As the final verse changes to the chorus, the song fades with a backround solo. 5/5

3. Slice of Your Pie-This song starts with some acoustic work, as you can here half-pleasured yells by Steven Tyler(Aerosmith). It then changes into electrics as the verse starts. Tommy''s drumming makes this song feel sexual, which is good seeing as this song is about...never mind. The music lightens, and then the solo starts, its not neccessarily impressive, but it works well with the song. After a few more verses, the music changes to a kind of relaxed swing, then fades out.4/5

4. Rattlesnake Shake-Starts with a little intro lick on the guitar, then a short intro solo into the main riff. This song is upbeat, and feels light. During the chorus, horns can be heard. After a while, the drums and bass are going with a different lick, which the guitar later follows with a 10-second solo into the chorus. As the song begins to end, a piano is heard, playing in an old rock fashion, horns help to end this song, too. This song has the feel of an old rock dance tune played in a glam metal fashion.4.5/5

5. Kickstart My Heart-Guitar dives are the first thing heard, followed the fast paced chorus riff. This song was written by Nikki Sixx after he overdosed and was pronounced dead, untill they shot artificial adrenalin into his heart, reviving him. This song is another classic Crue song. Mid-song, there is a bridge where Vince sings about kicking ass onstage. After the chorus is sung again, Mick does a very impressive solo in which he uses a talkbox. When the song finishes, through the talkbox you can hear Mick say "Kickstart my Heart" 5/5

6. Without You-This albums firts balad about how "Without You in my life, I slowly wilt and die." This song is slow paced, but it is good musically. About a two minutes into the song, you start to feel this it is repetative. If you wait another 45 seconds, there is a bridge, then the solo. The song goes on for a bit, then fades.4/5

7. Same Ol' Situation-Alright, this is my favorits song on the album. YAY. K, this song's intro is pretty good, it makes you feel what the song is gonna be, and that is kick ass. This song is really upbeat, and its about a girl whose sexual prefference isn't men. But ya, really catchy chorus, great backup vocals. Right before Mick's solo, they repeat the intro riff, but when the riff is ending, Nikki does a great bass fill. After Mick is done, Its just Vince singing the chorus with nobody playing but Tommy Lee. All in all, this song is the kind of song you bang your girlfriend in the back of your car too. 5/5

8. Sticky Sweet-This is where the album starts to go downhill. I'm not saying the rest of the album is bad, I'm saying the beginning is really good. In this song, I noticed Mick Mars doing a lot of random licks at the end of lines in the verse, which makes this song feel peppy. This song has a laid back feel to it. Even in this songs bridge, the feel of the song doesnt change. Ends with the same lick it started on. 3/5

9. She goes down-This song song starts of with a noise that sounds like a buzz saw (but it think its supposed to be a zipper) followed by a girl giggling. With a strong sexual theme, this song is heavy but with that bubble gum edge of pop. It seems as if it is one of those songs that just came out swinging. The vocals go great with the music. This song is almost like a hill, the first 2 minutes your climbing, then you reach a short bridge in this song, which would be the top, then down with the solo, into another easy feeling bridge, gets back to its chorus, then ends.3.5/5

10. Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)-This is a light feeling song, I guess you could call it a love song. If you listened to Motley years ago, and are looking to get back into them, this song will bring back memories, not just of the Crue, but of what your life was like. Half way through the song, it speeds up a little, with a well placed, simple guitar solo, then slows down for a short while, only to pick up again to finish. 4.5/5

11. Time for Change-I am not the biggest fan of this song, but tha might just be me. This song sings about how the world needs to see some change. This songs is really strong, especially in the chorus, you can feel what the guys are talking about. There are very simple, very soothing guitar solos inbetween choruses. After the final chorus, the solo helps to end this song.3/5

*note* all tracks following are availible only on the remastered Crucial Crue albums.

12. Dr. Feelgood (demo)-Different lyrics, this one sings about being a dealer, and has catchier lines. I personally like this version more. Vince sings heavier, and it feels more raw and in your face, but other then that, its the same as the other.5/5

13. Without You (demo)-Lighter feeling, and Vince sounds like a chick. Actually, i think there is a chick singing. You can't feel the bridge, it seems like they just used it as another verse. 3/5

14-Kickstart My Heart (demo)-The guitar in this song is slightly different (its a little bit simpler), and there arent guitar dives. Vince sings higher, but the lyrics are the same. The chorus feels more like its swaying. Still a great track. OH, and you can hear Mick's great solo better because he doesn't use the talkbox. 5/5

15-Get It For Free-This song didn't make the original album because it wasn't on the same level as the other songs were. It seems a if its just hitting the same note over and over again untill the chorus. And there are only like, 2 verses, and the song is 4 1/2 minutes long. Not that good of a track.3/5

16-Time For Change (demo)-Basically the same, except the song is shaped different in this version. And by that I mean the first minute is a lot lighter. Other then that, its the same. 3/5

Dr. Feelgood is Motley's own favorite album, because following this, Vince left (he later returned), so they didnt get to carry the momentum from this album and record a good follow up. If you are just looking to get into Motley Crue, i deffinatley recomend this album, because it is the most impressive. This album is the kind of album where you don't listen to it and skip songs. Every song on this album would probably do well as a single.

This album will suck you in, and once you start it for the first time, your not gonna hit stop untill its over.

The chorus of Kickstart My Heart is the only thing Motley Crue has ever done which I've enjoyed.

OH! YEAH!

It's less raw than those records, but musically is more refined than Shout and Too Fast, which is an

awesome debut.
