  • liledman coleman should start unravelling a bit more every time you kind of break into harsher stuff, because he is still incredibly melodic. his style is just fascinating. haha that live in japan set is just insane. very rewarding listen though, even if you just go one track per listen or something.

  • liledman awesome man. yeah its really interesting, every time i come back to it, each of the players stands out more on their own. freddie hubbard is a really distinctive player too, and he always seems to sound like himself whether hes playing bop, free or his later fusion stuff.

  • liledman yeah ascension is probably not his craziest performance, but having all the others there and the intensity of the interplay makes it stand out. ornette coleman's album 'free jazz' is basically the same thing, a double quartet. makes for an interesting listen.

  • liledman thats a pretty awesome combo of artists right there. mccoy tyner is actually coming out for the melbourne jazz fest, tickets are like $100 though and im flat broke. so frustrating. yeah ive still been on a bit of a classical kick, but ive just downloaded a whole bunch of random stuff so who knows where it will take me. im trying to slow down my listening habits though, too excited about new stuff but i need to enjoy what ive already got.

  • liledman haha nice. the experience of those albums can be amplified certainly by alcohol or other substances, or even better, an early morning half awake state. the intensity is ten fold (whether thats good or bad depends on how far around the corner you are i guess). let me know what you think of ascension, because if you dig the others, its then just like adding more players. what else have you been listening to lately?
