Soul//brazil//digs

Some awesome soul, MPB, Bossa Nova etc records that don't get enough love on Sputnik, and general digs.
1Milton Nascimento and Lo Borges
Clube Da Esquina

Kinda Brazil's answer to The White Album, even though I didn't agree with that comparison at first. Great clean production. Double LP but it flies by. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn_xs6EIG4E
2Lo Borges
Lo Borges

Only runs for about half an hour. Some songs feel like fragments and it doesn't always flow all that well but it's all part of the charm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNSaVEkR-Xk
3Donny Hathaway
Live

Ridiculously awesome live soul record. He sounds similar to Stevie Wonder. The band is really great and it's the most 'musical' audience I've ever heard.
4Marvin Gaye
Here, My Dear

The soul equivalent of Blood on the Tracks (only not quite as good). Double LP with a bit of filler. The songs aren't always immediate and the lyrics are ultra personal and specific.
5Curtis Mayfield
Super Fly

Funky soul record. Excellent songwriting, clever lyrics. Soundtrack to a film that works seamlessly as an LP. Perfect arrangements. Gets a bit of love on Sputnik.
6Curtis Mayfield
Curtis

Has half the number of ratings of ^ but an awesome record. Arrangements are stellar again.
7Minnie Riperton
Come To My Garden

Sang backing vocals on Stevie records, and also sang 'Lovin' You' which was covered by that guy on South Park with the bomb on the donkey rigged to detonate if he hits the high F. She has a million octave voice. The arrangements are massive. Not as perfectly suited as some of the others on the list but it works. It's like baroque pop meets soul, so it's a different vibe to the early 70s smooth stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1kDd6yBQZ4
8Stevie Wonder
Songs in the Key of Life

239 votes aren't enough.
9Stevie Wonder
Innervisions
10Gal Costa
Gal

Psychedelic album from Brazil in the late 60s. Bit more freaky and out there.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QG3RlwWQVU
11Al Green
Call Me
12Bill Withers
Just As I Am
13Elis Regina and Antonio Carlos Jobim
Elis And Tom

Elis Regina has one of the best voices I've ever heard. Songs are great and the arrangements aren't overbearing like alot of stuff from this era. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuMJuufP5Tk
14Nara Leao
Dez Anos Depois

Double album. Great voice.
15Elis Regina

Choo Choo Trane/I Can't Believe It's Not Clarified Butter. Title track slays.
