R.I.P. Maggie Roche 3 replies

Maggie Roche of New Jersey folk group The Roches has passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was 65. A statement confirming this was put on Facebook by her sister Suzzy:

"Friends, my dear, beautiful sister Maggie passed away today after a long struggle with cancer. She was a private person, too sensitive and shy for this world, but brimming with life, love, and talent. I want to let you know how grateful she was to everyone who listened and understood her through her music and her songs. After decades of singing, writing, traveling and performing together, we spent the last month and a half helping each other through her final journey, now I have to let her go. I’m heartbroken. I adored her. She was smart, wickedly funny, and authentic ~ not a false bone in her body ~ a brilliant songwriter, with a distinct unique perspective, all heart and soul. It’ll be hard for me to carry on without her."

Trivium Shock with Drummer Change 27 replies

A little more than a year since joining, Trivium announces the replacing of drummer Paul Wandtke with Alex Bent (Battlecross, Hatriot).

Wandtke joined Trivium following the release of their latest album, Silence in the Snow and came heavily recommended by Dream Theater's John Petrucci and Mike Mangini. He replaced former drum tech Mat Madiro, who filled in after the departure of Nick Augusto, who joined the band following the firing of Travis Smith.

Bent has joined the band as Wandtke's replacement. So far, not much is known surrounding the circumstances of Wandtke's departure.

Commenting on the change in an interview with MetalInsider.net, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy remarked that, "the last three drummers, everyone has been a session drummer within our band". It is unclear whether or not Bent is yet another session drummer or permanent replacement.

R.I.P. William Onyeabor 9 replies

Nigerian musician and businessman William Onyeabor died in his home in Nigeria on Monday, January 16. He was 70 years old.

After recording and self-releasing a number of groundbreaking synthesizer-heavy Afro-funk records in the 1970s and 1980s, Onyeabor converted to Christianity and abandoned recording to pursue a business career. He was named the West African Industrialist of the Year in the late 1980s. His music work remained largely unrecognized in the world at large until 2013, when Luaka Bop released the compilation album Who Is William Onyeabor? as part of their World Psychedelic Classics series. That album was followed in 2014 by a comprehensive career-retrospective box set, also released by Luaka Bop.
