New Burzum album in 2010 169 replies

"As You might already know, my dear ladies and gentlemen, and others individuals too, I am no friend of the modern so-called Black Metal culture. It is a tasteless, low-brow parody of Norwegian so-called Black Metal anno 1991-1992, and if it was up to me it would meet its dishonourable end as soon as possible. However, rather than abandon my own music, only because others have soiled its name by claiming to have something in common with it, I will stick to it. The "black metallers" will probably continue to "get loaded", "get high", and in all other manners too behave like the stereotypical Negro; they will probably continue to get foreign tribal tattoos, dress, walk, talk, look and act like homosexuals, and so forth. Some of the "black metallers", their fans and accomplices will probably even continue to pretend - and actually believe - they have something in common with Burzum, but let me assure You; they don't! I play what can be describe ...more

"As I said, the recording and mix is done and now we are working on all the things around it. The album is called 'We Are The Void' and the release will be in late February 2010. I am still not able to listen to it objectively, but we all are extremely satisfied with it. It has everything that I love about this band, and it kicks off the next 20 years in a great way. There is more drama, more anger, more sorrow and less filler."

Dragonforce Cancel Tour 89 replies

Dragonforce have canceled the remainder of their 2009 tour and all of their 2010 dates in order to write a new record.

The band stated: "The reason for this is that at the end of the 2009 UK part of the Ultra Beatdown World Tour, the band will start writing a new studio album scheduled for release in 2011. They will need to focus totally on this, and unfortunately this means all live shows for 2010 have been cancelled."

New Demon Hunter Album 40 replies

Demon Hunter recently released a press release in regards to a fifth studio album. The Christian Metalcore band has 4 studio albums already under their belt since signing with Solid State back in 2002, and have already gone through a slew of line-up changes; with the most recent of which being both guitarists Don Clark and Ethan Luck. Replacing them are Patrick Judge and Randy Torres (Project 86).

Furthermore, Ryan Clark also announced the albums recording status and his sentiments towards the developments:

"...We have been busy working on material for our 5th album, which we will be entering the studio to record in October. At this point, I would say about 90% of the music has been written, and probably about 40% of the lyrics/melodies. As cliché as it can be to say, the album is shaping up to be heavier, faster, and more aggressive than previous Demon Hunter material (and there might be a ballad or two in there for good measure). As always, we're d ...more

The seven-show stint was due to begin on November 18 in Nottingham, but will now kick off in Manchester's Academy on March 7. All tickets for the original shows are still valid.

Araya has been laid up for the past couple of weeks with blood clots in his back, and the decision has been made to call off all forthcoming dates. "Right now," said Slayer's manager, Rick Sales, "our main concern must be the full and permanent recovery of Tom, so we have decided to clear the calendar and give him the extra time he needs to concentrate solely on good health."

Slayer have already pushed back to an unspecified date the Canadian Carnage tour with Megadeth that was due to begin on November 8.

Orphaned Land Album Details 32 replies

Orphaned Land will release The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR in Europe on January 25, with a worldwide release following on Febuary 9.

Vocalist Kobi Farhi said: "As people that were born into the tragedy of our region, we have always been devoted to creating harmony between conflicts, a musical heaven on earth, a tango between God & Satan. Even in the album's artwork we combined Hebrew and Arabic, regardless of the fight between Jews and Muslims.

"I found a Jordanian guy, specialized in calligraphic artwork. He took letters from Hebrew and Arabic and moulded them in his art to create a symbol of peace. Same goes for our band photo, where we portrayed a synergy between the three monotheistic religions, that believe in the same God and yet, ridiculously have been killing each other for centuries "in the name of God" and turned the holy land into an orphaned land.

"Naturally we continued this idea of union on a mu ...more

Cynic Working on EP 56 replies

Florida progressive band Cynic is currently working on a new EP that will include reinterpretations of 4 songs off Traced in Air (The Space for This, Evolutionary Sleeper, Integral Birth, King of Those Who Know), and 1 totally new song. Guitarist Tymon Kruidenier had this to say on the new EP:
As most of you already know we're working on an EP. We're reinterpreting 4 songs from Traced In Air: Space, King, Evolutionary and Integral, and we will record a brand new song. There's several reasons we're doing this. We're not done yet with TiA, the album has only been out for a little over a year and we feel the songs are still fresh. Besides that we want to try different production techniques and incorporate influences from different genres we all love, but which never had a place in Cynic. So I saw someone asked how "surprising" this EP could be? I would say: very surprising
The EP is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Rammstein record "pulled" 56 replies

Many were kinda suprised. A porn flick as music video for the single "Pussy", lyrics about S/M kinky stuff and... nobody really made a big deal about it. At least in Germany, where for example songs like "Mein Teil" (which is about a cannibal eating the penis of a guy) gave rise to a huge debate about the band and their material.
Now, the Ministry for Family Affairs asked for the "indexing" of Rammstein's new album "Liebe ist für alle da". For all the folks not from Germany: if a video, album or song finds itself on "the index", it is no longer allowed to place the product in question in public, advertise it or sell it to minors (under 18 years of age in Germany). Rammstein's new album will therefor be no longer available in music stores, at least not above the counter, so to say.
As reason for all this the Ministry named in specific the song "Ich tu dir weh" (English: I hurt you), acompanied by a picture in the ...more

Hulk Hogan Auditioned For Metallica 87 replies

Former professional wrestler and full-time overprotective dad Hulk Hogan auditioned to play bass for both Metallica and the Rolling Stones during the 1980s, according to his forthcoming autobiography My Life Outside the Ring.

Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Hogan said: “I was in England presenting an award with Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger’s ex, and she told me the [Rolling] Stones were looking for a bass player. I sent her a ton of merchandise that she asked for and said ‘Tell Mick I’m a great bass player.’ I never heard a word back."

He went on: “When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them either. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica.”

Hogan made a living as a journeyman bass player while in college, and continued to attempt to make it as a musician during his early wrestling days. His daughter, Brooke, is now a successful solo artist w ...more

Ihsahn Album Details 28 replies

Former Emperor frontman Ihsahn will release his third solo album, After, on January 26 via Candlelight Records.

The album was recorded over eight months in Ihsahn's own Symphonique Studio with drummer Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect), bassist Lars K. Norberg (Spiral Architect), & saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby (Shining).

Ihsahn explained: "This is my first album written with 8-string guitars as basis which has been both challenging and inspiring. I also decided early on that I wanted to mix this album with Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia) and recorded the album with that in mind.

"Asgeir and Lars have again delivered superb performances. I've always wanted to implement the saxophone in my music; Jorgen’s contributions truly added a silver lining to the album."

Tracklist:

1. The Barren Lands
2. A Grave Inversed
3. After

Unter Null: Final Album Finished 6 replies

Erica Dunham, sole mastermind of industrial band Unter Null, is set to release what could potentially be her last album under the Unter Null moniker. The album was finished over the summer of 2009 and was first previewed for audiences on July 23, 2009. The album is going to be called “Moving On” and should be released early 2010 through Alfa-Matrix records.

Last October Erica Dunham released the following statement regarding the future of Unter Null:

I’ve decided that with this next Unter Null album, it will be my last foray into ebm/industrial/whatever (you may call it) music. 2009 is going to be the year of massive experimentation, and not letting problems like, oh, not having an orchestra at immediate hand, not having a multi-million dollar studio, not having an actual "band" but being a solo musician, hold things back.

I’ve sorely wanted to get away from this genre and scene for a while now. I support my friends' band ...more

New Thought Industry Material? 4 replies

Thought Industry hasn’t released any new material in over eight years, but whispers throughout the internet have been full of rumors – most of them wishful thinking. One of the most frequent unsubstantiated rumors has been that of a reunion consisting of the original Songs for Insects/Mods Carve the Pig line-up, but those have never been confirmed (and, in fact, have been categorically denied). Another more tangible rumor has been the potential for a new release, and these rumors seem to be true. A site dedicated to the music of the South West Michigan area has posted a quick blurb concerning new Thought Industry material:
Also, Brent Oberlin came over for hot dogs and beer last weekend (along with the likes of Dave Nash, Dan Roe and his family, siren Michelle Graf, and even Kevin Banks. I set up a mini-waterpark for the all the kids. I so don't rock.) and let me report that new THOUGHT INDUSTRY is palpable. I asked Brent if I could hear some, but he said that I had leaked ...more

Skinny Puppy Album Delay & Tour 19 replies

A public message was released concerning what's going on with Skinny Puppy's upcoming album. Their manager, Jeff, issued this statement:

I just wanted to attempt to make everyone aware of the current situation that Skinny Puppy is in. Due to the fact that SPV filed for insolvency earlier in the year the new Skinny Puppy LP will not be out in time for the tour. We have been in discussion with SPV and had hoped to find a solution to the mess they have put us in, but it looks as though things will not get sorted out until years end. We have meetings set with them in the near future and I hope to be able to let everyone know that things will be back on track soon. Songs have been recorded and artwork has been worked on and once we resolve the issues we have with SPV we will release them.

None of the issues with SPV will jeopardize this tour. The band is really excited to get out and play and we think this is going to be a tour to remember!! Everybody in the Pu ...more

New Avantasia Double Album 1 replies

According to the band's website, the next offering from Avantasia is to be a tale told across to albums,
"I have always given my very best, but this new chapter in Avantasia’s history is too much and too ambitious to be just a regular album. I have worked on it for years now, and it has become even more than two albums! I don’t know if I will release one first, or both simultaneously, or maybe even both in one special package. It’s all up to whatever label is going to release it, we’ll see. The production is so massive and I have so many guests this time. It’s the continuation of the “Scarecrow”-story. I knew that story would be spread out over two albums back then when we started working on it in 2006, cause we had writtem a real Rock Opera of over 20 songs even back then. But since then we kept composing, and out came even bigger and better material. Sometimes you don’t have a single good idea for months, whereas at another point it just keeps flowing. “T ...more
