As expected, this is likely to suggest that the upcoming solo album will have an electro/dancey style similar to Bloc Party's most recent releases.

Smith Calls Radiohead Selfish 54 replies

No less than two years after the album's release, Tom Smith, frontman of British indie group Editors, has declared Radiohead's In Rainbows to be "selfish." Smith feels that because Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has spoken up against illegal file-sharing with the Featured Artist Coalition, the "pay-what-you-want" method for the album was unjustified: "in giving it away for free, it didn't feel like it had any connection to the bigger problem and it was selfish"
He continued: "I think the big artists have a responsibility for the smaller artists, to speak up when things are going wrong."

Frightened Rabbit Finish Album 11 replies

Scottish indie rock band Frightened Rabbit have finished recording their third album and will start mixing soon.

Frontman Scott Hutchinson, in an interview with The Village Voice, describes some new sounds and themes that stray away from the more pop-oriented 2008 release The Midnight Organ Fight.

Hutchinson said: "It's really just the treatment of the songs that has changed. The way I write songs is still the same-I still love a chorus. There's something nice about having that kind of standard pop structure to hang something slightly different onto. Lyrically, it doesn't focus on the same theme..I wrote a lot of the record in quiet solitude. A friend of mine had an empty house on the east coast of Scotland. Tiny, tiny village, very remote.

"And I went there to write it. A lot of it focuses on the sea and the remoteness of that. Not necessarily my situation, but the general feeling of losing yourself within something, whether that ...more

Clap Your Hands Say Solo Album 2 replies

Alec Ounsworth, frontman of indie rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, will release his debut solo album Mo Beauty on October 20 via Anti-.

Recorded in New Orleans earlier this year, Mo Beauty features the back band of George Porter, Jr. on bass, Stanton Moore on drums, Robert Walter on keys, and Matt Sutton on baritone and pedal-steel guitars. Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) produced.

Ounsworth insists that it's not a New Orleans record, but acknowledges the effect of his surroundings on the final product: "New Orleans informed the spirit of the record, as it should. It's not a 'New Orleans record,' though, because, besides "Holy, Holy, Holy Moses," most of the songs weren't written specifically for New Orleans . . . Any record can be influenced by its location aesthetically, and some are more than others. So it was with this record . . .it is New Orleans, after all."

Arctic Monkeys Album Details 35 replies

Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys have revealed the artwork of their new album Humbug (linked below).

Shot by photographer Guy Aroch at New York's Electric Lady Studios, Humbug marks the first time the band members have been pictured on an album cover. The album is scheduled for release in the UK on August 18, with a worldwide release the following day.

Speaking to NME, the band revealed that the record revolves around bassist Nick O'Malley's alter ego. Alex Turner explained: "Basically the album is Malley's alter ego, like [Beyonce's] Sasha Fierce," O'Malley added: "I'm Desmond Bell. Or Dessie Bell, as I like to be called."
