Lately we've seen a number of pioneering IDM acts releasing new music (Squarepusher, Autechre, Boards of Canada) so it's only right that Planet Mu founder Mike Paradinas dusts off his legendary u-Ziq project. The new album, entitled Chewed Corners, will be out on June 25th on Planet Mu, and will mark the first new material from u-Ziq since 2007. The album will be preceeded by an EP, XTEP, out May 21st. So dust off your Artificial Intelligence compilations and slap those Windowlicker posters back up on your wall, because it's time to party like it's 1997!

General Motors had to pull an advertisement for their Chevrolet Trax car because of complaints that the song being featured in the ad, Booty Swing by Parov Stelar, was racist. Part of the lyrics that could be heard in the ad are as follows:
Now, in the land of Fu Manchu,
The girls all now do the Suzie-Q,
Clap their hands in the centre of the floor
Saying 'ching-ching, chop suey, swing some more'

After a silent 2012 (ignoring his constant stream-of-consciousness twitter output), Genre-defying producer Zomby has announced that he will be releasing a double-album of 33 tracks. Considering the vast quantity (and quality) of tracks to his name that have never been officially released, the double-album format should be a perfect fit for the producer. 4AD, the label that Zomby's previous full-length Dedication was also released on to much critical praise, claims the upcoming album With Love "moves seamlessly between the dance floor and after-hours emotional introspection, serving as a love letter to the soulful dance music of his past."
The preview track, which can be streamed at the link below, suggests that rather than being a drastic shift in sound as previous Zomby releases have sometimes been, With Love will be an evolution of Zomby's work on Dedication. Somber piano lines and melancholy 8-bit touches flourish over stuttering hi-hats and bass rumblings t ... more

A mysterious new Boards of Canada release has surfaced. Some vinyl records (one pictured here:
http://2020k.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/boards-of-canada-record-store-day-2013.jpg) were
shipped out to a few record stores throughout the world as part of RSD. They play a short snippet of signature
BOC synths followed by 6 random numbers read in a robot voice, possibly part of a viral campaign for a new
album. BOC have not released any new music since a 2006 EP, and the likelihood of them coming out with a
new album has seemed highly unlikely for quite some time.

Moby commented on the collaboration by saying "i've been a fan of mark's from his early sst records days, and i've always wanted to work with him. he has one of the best and most distinctive voices of the last 25 years. now that we live near each other it ended up being really easy working on a song together."
He also detailed the recording session mentioning: “…And in producing the song, spike stent and i incorporated some very unusual production techniques... we ran all of the instruments through a distortion pedal into a guitar amp. so really there are only 3 tracks: left channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, right channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, and mark's vocals. Perth, Western Australia electronic music producer, Pogo (Nick Bertke), was banned from the
States back in 2011 for ten years due to an oversight in his visa waiver. The 24-year-old,
famous for intricate film mash-ups over beats, was detained while on tour and held in custody
for three frustrating weeks before being deported.
The reason given to him was that he was illegally profiting from work because his paper didn’t
cover the ability to do so during the time he was playing the shows. Despite Pogo’s previous
employment with Pixar and Microsoft, along with countless gigs without issue under the same
program, he is still barred from any type of return.
The artist has carefully set up an online campaign that will hopefully gain back access to the
States where he has many close friends, fans, and business opportunities. The video in the link
below creatively tells the full story about what ... more
