| No one will agree with this ranking.
I just felt like posting this to see if anyone agreed with my ranking of the Pavement albums. I don't think anyone will, though. This is for my amusement. I'm counting Westing as an album because it sort of operates like one. | 6 | | Pavement Brighten the Corners
This one probably actually has my favorite opening track from Pavement, but none of the other songs on the album sound like it. These bottom two albums are very close to each other, and it was difficult for me to decide between them... especially because BTC has Stereo, Shady Lane, Transport is Arranged, Passat Dream, and Starlings of the Slipstream. | 5 | | Pavement Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
This one barely edged out BTC, but all of the Pavement albums are remarkably close to each other. It just shows how great of a band they were. All of the tracks are winners except for Newark Wilder, 5-4=Unity, and Heaven is a Truck. I have to be in the right mood for those, but Pavement was almost incapable of making a bad song. | 4 | | Pavement Slanted and Enchanted
Summer Babe is easily one of the best songs of the decade. The other songs on the album can't beat or match it, but they're all pretty darn good. I especially love No Life Singed Her, Conduit for Sale, Zurich is Stained, and Chelsea's Little Wrists. | 3 | | Pavement Westing (By Musket and Sextant)
This one is consistently grating to listen to, but as a hardcore SY fan, I love the noise! The EPs are sequenced perfectly and the songs are short enough such that I don't feel the need to ever skip any. They're all great, anyway. It's always fun to have people run away/give you weird looks when you blast something like Internal K-Dart or Drive-By Fader. This compilation even includes Summer Babe! | 2 | | Pavement Terror Twilight
Surprise! It operates like a Wowee Zowee Pt. 2 for me, just that it's somewhat mellower. The joke songs are gone and the songs are more fully formed, but why would I complain? It's all totally memorable and pleasant for me. | 1 | | Pavement Wowee Zowee
I don't need to defend this one. It's always a contest between the first three albums, and it seems divided pretty evenly. I believe I like the extremes of Pavement the most. Westing is them at their noisiest and most experimental. Terror Twilight is them at their jammiest and most focused + melodic. Wowee Zowee is them at their craziest and most adventurous. | |
