| Best Albums Of 2012 (the Year We All Die)
This is a compilation of my favorite albums from 2012. Agree to disagree all you want, but rrremember this is only one opinion in the ranks of millions of others. Also would like to say that rr2012 was really a great year for many genres of music, especially hip-hop and metal (although rrI'm not a huge metal fan). I haven't heard an album in recent memory that completely shakes me as much as
this one. From the great little snippets of Kendrick's crew in between tracks to the
sheer power of lyricism and unique flow that Kendrick brings to the table, this album is

The Heist
I hadn't been a fan of these guys until I started hearing great things about their
"Same Love" video on Twitter, and boy am I glad I bought into the hype. Such a
uniquely crafted hip-hop album that sounds unlike anything I have really heard in the
genre. Ryan Lewis' masterfully crafted beats and Macklemore's skill behind the mic
form a truly clean and enjoyable album. Every track really tells a story, and there's
sure to be at least one track that everyone can enjoy. | | 3 |  | GRiZ
Mad Liberation
I stumbled upon GRiZ on Soundcloud one afternoon late last year and I'm glad I did.
After getting hooked on some of his remixes of classics like Jay-Z's "Heart Of A City"
and Aerosmith's "Dream On" I was waiting for the day the world would get a taste of
GRiZ in an original LP. Mad Liberation is a great culmination of many EDM acts
(notably the Pretty Lights Music label artists) with a good taste of originality. He brings
funky bass lines and glitchy goodness to life, and truly knows how to throw a show.
After seeing him in Madison, WI shortly before his album dropped in the fall, my
patience was on a continuously shorter leash. Overall, Mad Liberation is an album that
puts me in a good mood no matter the situation. Definitely expecting big things in the
future from this 21-year old producer. | | 4 |  | Lupe Fiasco
Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt.1
As a big fan of Lupe, I was let down when his previous effort "Lasers" dropped.
Everything seemed just a little too poppy and Lupe didn't seem like the good old Lupe
from Food & Liquor I and The Cool. Thankfully Food And Liquor II came out and with
low expectations I was blown away. It may not be his best work, but sure follows the
same formula as his older works. Songs like "Form Follows Function" and
"Lamborghini Angels" are some of my favorite songs from Lupe. The album may not
have been the most groundbreaking album from this year, but the album really is a
gem of enjoyment and an easy listen. | | 5 | | heRobust
Rob & Hood
Like GRiZ, I stumbled upon heRobust's music on Soundcloud from a remix of Future's
"Same Damn Time." heRobust is a versatile, up-and-coming producer that is skilled in
the arts of "trap" and "glitch hop." Over the course of 2012, he released a steady stream of content. Usually, when artists
release music with small
gaps in between releases there is a discernible lack of quality and creativity (*cough
Green Day *cough) possessed in the music. This is not the case for heRobust, as each
release holds some sort of creative weight that pushes his progression as an artist
forward sightly. For those of you not familiar with the genre of "trap," it is generally
described as a subgenre of bass music and hip-hop. Basically, it's rap beats with more
emphasis on production with a small influence from bass music (like dubstep).
heRobust's ability to create a different-sounding piece as compared to other trap
pieces (more glitch, less repetition) is what really gets me hooked. There are no
better "pump-up anthems" than his rehashes of Kanye's "Mercy" and Future's "Same
Damn Time," and his newest Knife Party remix is no less powerful. Rob & Hood is a
collection of all original material that really defines heRobust's "trap" side of
production, and I can't think of another artist that blew up as large as this guy in
2012. | |
