| Moreira's band new EP, care to check?
So we (Elision of Animus) have released our new EP just a few days ago. Since 2 years ago some of you liked our work, and since you're sputbros and this is all about the jams, just thought about bringing it here myself. Link in the the comments. Now, lately I got around to catch some nice portuguese bands on tour around the country, furthering my perspective on the music made in my country. I usually say that Portugal have next to no bands that deserve real attention from the public, but I've always had a few that i really enjoy. Some came up very recently and inspired me to try and bring them to you guys. So this list serves for that too (within context, right?). Order is irrelevant. Hope you enjoy. | 1 | | Elision of Animus Contrition
So this is my band. It's just me and another guy, I do vocals and drums. For those who remember our first release, this is supposed to be way different, hopefuly better too. https://elisionofanimus.bandcamp.com/ | 2 | | Borderlands Awaken Dreamers
Metalcore / Hardcore. In the vain of In Hearts Wake, Parway Drive, Northlane and such. Wonderful live band, just electric. This EP reveals a discplined, solid band. Their single shows some promise too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cqgXJS6W6A | 3 | | Nebulous (PT) Nebulous
Djent / Progressive Metal. For fans of Tesseract, Fellsilent, Meshuggah, Uneven Structure, etc. They were the only good band to come around in this genre here in Portugal, and boy were they good. One of my favorite national albums of all time. Broke up last year due to lack of support, resources and motivation (I've been lead to believe). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7dY56LDEsM | 4 | | More Than A Thousand Vol. 4 Make Friends and Enemies
Melodic Metalcore / Post-Hardcore. They're like idk, Dream On Dreamer meets For Today these days or something, first bunch of releases were a lot on the Emo side. Portuguese legends. This is one of my favorite albums made in my country. The band is about to go on hiatus now, waiting on them to announce their last shows (I've seen them live 3-4 times in the last 2 years, good live band). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q2-XgQLHQY | 5 | | Painted Black Cold Comfort
Doom Metal / Hard Rock. For fans of Katatonia, Opeth, Tryptikon, etc. Wonderful live band, had the pleasure to see them twice. They've been active for many years but rarely perform, probably due to be well into their 30's+ and having but a few followers in this redneck country. Their music sounds very deep and personal, fans of this kind of thing should really give this band a chance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C21jBtgwJWA | 6 | | The Medusa Smile Words Of A Hopeless Place
Metalcore. For fans of The Defiled, early era Motionless in White and It Dies Today. These guys are pretty good, straight up. Nothing ground breaking, just really proper Metalcore in a vein that people don't practice much these days anymore. They're gonna be releasing something new pretty soon, stoked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLzqF4_C8Rk | 7 | | Switchtense Confrontation Of Souls
Extreme Metal. For fans of Suffocation and such. I enjoy this album, since then I didn't really dig much from them but these guys always fought to make a name for themselves and that's something. An honorable mention, if you will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R_oeLlm7nc | 8 | | Echidna Insidious Awakening
Extreme Metal. Much like Switchtense but with more groove, kinda like Revocation, Lamb of God, Machine Head. Dug this album. They're awesome live and again, a bunch of guys that came together from the shambles of many bands here in Portugal. Another honorable mention. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFX8xC-AG5g | 9 | | Colosso Abrasive Peace
Death Metal / Progressive Metal. Nice album, just lacks leads. Project that began with 1 man only and scaled up to a full sized lineup. Lots of riffs and some breakdowns here and there. Good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaMZsAGLF9s | 10 | | Ash Is A Robot Ash Is A Robot
Post-Hardcore / Math Rock. Fans of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge (mainly their early, punkier stuff), The Fall Of Troy, etc. These guys are something else. Saw them live twice, both wonderful experiences. They can riff, they can sing, they can scream and bring the whole house down in the name of rock n' roll. I couldn't rec these guys any harder, just listen to them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tABxQL8FmfE | 11 | | Hills Have Eyes Antebellum
Melodic Metalcore / Hardcore. For fans of Memphis May Fire, Bury Tomorrow, The Devil Wears Prada, etc. A couple of you might have actually heard of these guys, they're kinda making waves in the scene not just in Portugal, but in Europe. If you haven't, you probably will anyway. They just released their new album and they're doing it big now, awesome album if you're into this kind of thing. Also wonderful live experience and they seem like pretty cool, down to earth dudes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Coj0ZxBv37Q | 12 | | Remeo Laying Siege to My Own Home
Metalcore / Hardcore / Punk. For fans of stuff like Every Time I Die, Converge, etc. This is the project of a good friend of mine, and fellow sputbro, Marcelo Melo (Dolving999). Believe it or not, it stands up there with MTAT's Vol.4 as my favorite national album, probably even surpasses it. And it's baffling, almost revolting that this guy doesn't get more love. He's a one man music machine, knowledgeable producer and a great guy. You make yourself a favor and check this one. Only about 15 intense minutes. https://remeocivitas.bandcamp.com/releases | |
