YoYoMancuso
04.26.21 | attempts to peer pressure me into 5ing Farm will likely succeed |
JeremiahBullfrog
04.26.21 | mad respect for having Farm so high, great album |
YoYoMancuso
04.26.21 | thanks bois, i first heard Farm in 2013 and it didn't have nearly as much respect on Sput as it does now. It's been nice to see it gain some clout haha |
Atari
04.26.21 | Excited to hear the rest of these. I only recently got into them when I randomly stumbled across Where You Been. So far I love that one and Farm, as well as the new album |
Ryus
04.26.21 | NOWHERE TO COLLAPSE THE LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNG
best guitar solos ever on that song tbh |
ArsMoriendi
04.26.21 | "Don't" rules |
YoYoMancuso
04.26.21 | @Ryus i learned it a couple of days ago! definitely one of the easier solos on YLAOM, Sludgefeast and Raisans have some crazy ones that are above my pay grade rn |
Senetrix666
04.26.21 | "Don't rules" [2] |
Pikazilla
04.26.21 | Great ranking! |
DoofDoof
04.26.21 | I’d prob go:
1st: You’re Living
2nd: Bug
3rd: Beyond
4th: Farm
5th: Green Mind |
YoYoMancuso
04.26.21 | Wish I could get into Green Mind more |
DoofDoof
04.26.21 | So many good songs, just the production is a little ‘not right’ |
dimsim3478
04.26.21 | "Don't" rules [3]
"Alone" rules! that's like the best song on the album! dude!!!
also I feel like I'm the only person who loves Glimpse.
anyway as long as 1 is 1 i cant be too mad. the rest of their discog is open to variation in the rankings but Living is so clearly, undeniably their best |
Stakaline
04.26.21 | Farm deserves some love indeed. The solos in see the people and I don't wanna go there are absolutely massive. |
rockarollacola
04.26.21 | About the only thing I dig about this band is the guitar work. My childhood friend loves these guys with a passion, though. |
joesmoe4000
04.26.21 | everything about this band is bad ass and they have a top notch discography to prove it. |
YoYoMancuso
04.26.21 | ^ amen |
Ecnalzen
04.27.21 | Usually prefer my rock of the non-noise persuasion but I am still curious about this group |
YoYoMancuso
04.27.21 | There’s some noise involved, but they’re much more melodic than an actual noise rock band like Polvo or Sonic Youth |
Ecnalzen
04.27.21 | I have had bad luck with artists tagged with that on here in the past, but I was into what I listened to of your top 2 here
I liked Farm a little better on first listen since it was more on the polished side of production and vox wise |
Atari
04.27.21 | digging 3 hard right now. this band is insanely good and should have gotten into them sooner |
tommygun
04.28.21 | m/ |
Ecnalzen
04.28.21 | Oh my
Do my eyes deceive me or is that a tommygun post I see? |
YoYoMancuso
04.28.21 | he follows the sound of J's Marshall stacks |
Ryus
04.28.21 | 1>5>4>2 for me so far, havent heard 3 tho |
YoYoMancuso
04.28.21 | Beyond would pretty easily be 2nd if it maintained the strength of its first 4 songs. Maybe the best run of songs on any Dino Jr. album besides YLAOM |
Ecnalzen
04.28.21 | It would be rude to ignore the call of the stacks |
Atari
04.28.21 | Man I thought the 2nd half of Beyond had some fantastic tracks personally |
YoYoMancuso
04.28.21 | We're Not Alone and Lightning Bulb are two of my favs but the first 4 songs are just a step above |
combustion07
04.28.21 | 1,4,2,5,8
Those are the only ones I've heard but I love them all tbh. Will use this list as a template to check out the rest. Amazing band |
Demon of the Fall
04.28.21 | Cool list. I’m interested.
YLAOM is very good (better then I recall), will re-check/update my Bug opinion and then explore further. |
theBoneyKing
04.28.21 | Must give these guys another try soon. |
Atari
04.28.21 | you really should. still don't personally get much out of YLAOM (yet at least) but 2 and 7 really sold me on them and now I can't stop digging through their discog |
YoYoMancuso
04.28.21 | if you start with well-produced Dinosaur Jr. it's probably hard to make the pivot to lo-fi Dinosaur Jr., so that's understandable |
Atari
04.28.21 | I don't mind lo-fi and think I heard it in the past but it also seems to have more of a grunge sound and I dig the stuff that leans more towards country rock. actually they remind me of Drive-By Truckers at times which is I wasn't expecting. If you haven't heard them you'd probably love their stuff :] |
Atari
04.28.21 | listening to YLAOM again now and it does have some country-ish moments honestly. Tarpit is great
in a month I'll probably be talking about how it's the best thing they've ever done |
Ryus
04.28.21 | sludgefeast is basically the best indie song ever |
theBoneyKing
04.28.21 | YLAOM is the only one I know and I have that at a 2.5, really wasn't into the lo-fi-ness and overly scrappy songwriting but that was a few years ago and more stuff like that has grown on me since so I owe it a revisit. |
Atari
04.28.21 | if it doesn't click you should still check Where You Been/Farm and tell me if I'm crazy or if they have a similar appeal as Drive-By Truckers with those albums. was thinking those ones would be right up your alley |
YoYoMancuso
04.29.21 | Decided I’m gonna make this a series - next featured band will be another legendary ‘80s group with a massive discog |
Demon of the Fall
04.29.21 | ‘really wasn't into the lo-fi-ness and overly scrappy songwriting‘
What does scrappy mean in this context? I’ve been listening to it a fair bit this week and the song-writing is creative and varied, yet surprisingly digestible. It doesn’t strike me as being purposefully obtuse and distant, in fact it’s quite the opposite. Sometimes it’s downright catchy. Disclaimer: this might not be what you meant, just saying. |
dedex
04.29.21 | 4 > 1 > 2 > 7 > 10 > 3 > 5 > 6 > 9 > 12 > 11 > 8
cool blurbs, excited for the next one!
also, sludgefeast is basically the best indie song ever [2] |
stevendah
04.29.21 | Damn, was working on my ranking to post too. Our top 4 is a match. |
Conmaniac
04.29.21 | 1 is 1 nice I dig 8 a lot too |
YoYoMancuso
04.29.21 | @stevendah I'd still be interested in seeing it! |
MetalMarcJK
04.30.21 | I bought YLAOM after seeing it in an SST ad in Thrasher Magazine. That, and Fields Of The Nephilim’s debut. Kick ass albums bought only because of the album art. |
