03.24.23 | OG GameCube enjoyer here. I had iffy feelings about it but after watching some reviews, I'm interested. What's the consensus? Is IGN's 10/10 bs? |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | The game is fun but it is a fundamentally different game. If you were bothered by re3make cutting things you'll be disappointed in this game as well.
Things they cut btw if you care about it. Lots of dialogue is reworked or gone, those radio transmissions with the villains is gone, mine cart area is gone, robo Salazar is gone, u3 or "it" fight is gone, the spike ceiling sections are gone, lava room in the castle is gone, bulldozer sequence is gone. |

03.24.23 | On vacation now, but I am playing this shit alllllllll Sunday when I get back |

03.24.23 | The OG is probably my favorite game of all time, so this might sound a bit biased coming from a hardcore fan. But yeah, disappointing from what I've seen tbh. Pretty much all character models/voice actors are substantially worse. Ada and Krauser's voices are absolutely dreadful. The dynamic between Leon and Ashley is way too serious now. I miss the charm, the campiness that made the og so good. They cut the "women" line as to not offend the blue haired weirdos on Twitter who don't even play the game. They made my boy Luis a sleazeball when he used to be charismatic and handsome. The Regenerators are much less scary now, why are they so tubby? And where are their menacing red eyes? At least they brought the iconic breathing back, but still. I could go on and these might all sound like nitpicks, but in my opinion it's the little details that make a good game great. |

This alone tells me this remake isn't worth $70. Lazy. |

03.24.23 | Oh and they CUT THE U3 FIGHT. Such a bummer. |
Trebor.
03.24.23 | It's crazy that we went from complaining about remakes to applauding remakes in like a ten year span |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | This is more in line for newer fans of the series, for the type that unironically think the game is unplayable because you have to stand to shoot. I do think they messed up by not having a default red dot sight but get it wouldn't have worked with this playstyle. There's definitely tons of people freaking out over the dialogue but I don't think it's a big deal especially the people that think they were pressured to change it as opposed to the writers just not wanting to go in a certain direction. Re4 was 18 years ago. You could still say the fslur on TV for reference back then. It's ok for some things to stay in the past. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | Some remakes def deserve the praise fwiw. Too soon to say for this for me personally but RE1&2make def deserve all the hype.
There also weren't a ton of remakes ten years ago either. |
Trebor.
03.24.23 | I grew up loving the tank control games and RE2make is one of my favorite games ever so I'll probably like this one, but I think this current run of remakes has run its course, not exactly fresh anymore all in the same engine with basically the same combat |
JayEnder
03.24.23 | This game didn't need a remake. Period.
The RE2 remake was fantastic though. |
Goodolboy
03.24.23 | Y'all smoking meth. The game is critically acclaimed for a reason. It's great. Just as strong as re2 remake. It is a slightly different game with its own feel but that's the point lol. If your going into it thinking it's going to be the exact same as the original with modern graphics then your just stuck on the og. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | Trevor is on point with the homogeneous nature of the remakes. A lot of them share the same mechanics and identity to one another when it was far from the case with the originals. Like mixing ammo was a re3 specific thing but it's in all the remakes for example. It kinda lessens the impact you'd get on a new playthrough. |
MO
03.24.23 | I'm sure it's fine but I'm not really interested. The remakes are essentially making them all seem and play like the same game with no real major descerning features. Part of REs charm is that the games were always so different. |
IsisScript80
03.24.23 | “but I think this current run of remakes has run its course, not exactly fresh anymore all in the same engine with basically the same combat”
I’m in no rush to get it (if ever), but it makes sense if this round of remakes were inherently similar, as the originals were cutting-edge for the time, but would be clunky as hell if played fresh today with modern control sensibilities.
The aim of remakes (besides raking in a fuck-load of cash, obvs.), is generally to supply the core, rose-tinted idea of a classic that could stand side-by-side with the best of what’s contemporary. I for the most part, am fine with the notion. |
TheSpaceMan
03.24.23 | RE4 is easily one of the best and most important games of all time so I'm pumped and also prepared to not be blown away like I was as a kid on my first play thru |
TheSpaceMan
03.24.23 | "Oh and they CUT THE U3 FIGHT. Such a bummer"
that's a fucking dissapointment |
TheSpaceMan
03.24.23 | RE4 has the best boss fights of all time. Like it even makes the soulsborne games jealous and that's saying something. How are they gonna cut one |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | Remakes also get new fans into the series. I'm fine with games getting modern sensibilities but still think the remakes could've found ways to differentiate themselves in more meaningful ways than say re3s dodge to the parry in this game. |
JayEnder
03.24.23 | Yeah, that whole section with the falling carriers where you have to escape U3 is iconic... can't believe they cut it. Hopefully he's in the Separate Ways DLC, but I'm sure that's gonna cost more money that I'm not gonna spend. |
Shemson
03.24.23 | I’m a huge RE fan, RE2 was my first PlayStation game on I think it was my tenth birthday.
Just played 30 minutes of the remake and so far it’s very similar to the original in story and atmosphere but feels like the most recent series entries and remakes in gameplay. It’s hard not to walk around the village here and think of RE8.
I much preferred the atmosphere of RE1 and RE2 in the series and always felt RE4 was the beginning of the end as they moved away from survival horror with a mad ending to almost pure action which just gets more and more ridiculous until the end. Feels like it’s going to be fun though! |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | Oh shit I didn't even think about separate ways. The og ps2 dlc. Idk if it's in here but mercenaries mode won't be for 2 more weeks |
Nomos2
03.24.23 | I'd actually welcome a lot of changes only because I'm not super nostalgic about any one part of the game. I just remember it going off the rails and causing a lot of stress and me hating it more as it went. So a shortened third act doesn't sound so bad. I'd more be going into this hoping for a trimmed, polished version of what I played all those years ago. But I'm going to pirate the shit out of it because who has $80 for a remake lol. |
DungeonBoy
03.24.23 | RE1, RE2, RE3, remakes were all awesome. Don't think this REALLY needed a remake in the same way RE2 and 3 did, but will play it when it goes on sale. |
Shemson
03.24.23 | Yeah I’m with you Nomos. I remember the castle with the cultists slowly coming towards me, humming and chanting being creepy AF but then as soon as you started facing enemies with guns it just became crap imo |
protokute
03.24.23 | It didn't need a remake. Just use the money and creative power to do something new.
The remake definitely is far from bad, and I really wanted a pc upgrade to play it, not gonna lie.
|
protokute
03.24.23 | Also, am I the only who loves the village part of the OG, the beige and autumnish vibes? I just have a very affective and nostalgic attachment to the palette color of that game, and that's probably the thing I'll miss the most. |
normaloctagon
03.24.23 | sad this didnt end up coming to switch : ( excited to play it eventually. currently running re4og on professional w/ mafia gangster costume. wonder what the unlockable content will be like in the remake |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | There's more to unlock in this game but I'm not 100% the laser gun for beating professional is on here. Leon moves so sluggish in the remake too it makes the hordes a lot more intimidating. I think the game is naturally a bit harder than the og. |
Gyromania
03.24.23 | Damn, Sputnik seems to be the place to be for awful RE takes, pre sure most other places on the internet are loving this game.
"Lots of dialogue is reworked or gone, those radio transmissions with the villains is gone, mine cart area is gone, robo Salazar is gone, u3 or "it" fight is gone, the spike ceiling sections are gone, lava room in the castle is gone, bulldozer sequence is gone."
I'm fine with the dialogue changes so far, the mine cart and bulldozer sequences were filler anyway so that's not a huge loss. spike ceiling slight loss, same with the huge statue and lava room. None of that stuff bothers me nearly as much as removing the clock tower from RE3. The biggest thing there is prob U3 but i'll get over that, it was a pretty quick fight in the original game anyway. For all they've removed I've noticed they added a lot more. The village was changed in meaningful ways and the way it all connects is so much better than the original. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.24.23 | Yeah, there's less of the campy stuff from the original but they added a lot more depth to the rest of the areas. They could've gone even bigger imo but I like some of the more dynamic changes. The early village seige is more unnerving in this version. Idk why Leon grunts every time you aim though. |
Gyromania
03.25.23 | Haha I noticed that too and if you spam it it’s kind of hilarious |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | This is unapologetically a horror game too, re4 og has an arcade feel compared to this. I started on hardcore because it said I should if I played the original but I found it was too punishing because of how more slow and methodical this game feels. I do think the knife is a little too fragile but I know you can upgrade it. I'm torn on it still |
Veldin
03.25.23 | On Chapter 5, Hardcore mode. It’s delightful. Taking a break to play Diablo 4 open beta |
Goodolboy
03.25.23 | Of course its delightful nerds here just complain cause it's not the original lol. The GameCube remake of 1 is superb. 2 remake is superb. 4 is no different |
pizzamachine
03.25.23 | No doubt is good |
BAT
03.25.23 | Glad I bought the deluxe and got the og soundtrack but seems like the further you get into it the more the new stuff is noticable. First two chapters felt fairly music less but it's gotten more dynamic after meeting sera. I'm digging it only things I'm not used to is the breakable knives. Another thing I found odd is the dynamite throwers have more or less the same ai as the original so you can still exploit them into friendly fire, buut that's at least a familiarity more than an issue. Playing on ps4 and doesn't to seem to have many performance issues but something like god of war has more detailed weather effects, still looks surprisingly great on a decade old console tho |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | I like the things the knife can do but it breaks way to easy and is kinda annoying. I feel like finishers and stealth kills should take a lot less damage. Deflecting a chainsaw makes sense it'd be a one and done thing so I'll give you that. I think it costs too much to repair as well.
I'm on series x with Ray tracing on and the water looks really good but that's about all I noticed so far. |
Drbebop
03.25.23 | I refuse to play RE2 remake because of Claire’s model. I know that’s petty and stupid but the change in her design pisses me off to no end |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | Why |
Drbebop
03.25.23 | I don’t even know myself. I just don’t like how she looks and Claire is my fave RE character so it cuts on a subatomic level. I’m aware that’s incredibly petty but y’know |
Trebor.
03.25.23 | lol just get a mod |
JayEnder
03.25.23 | Claire does look pretty bad in RE2 remake... |
Drbebop
03.25.23 | Would if I could but the ol’ crapbox can’t handle the game. C’est la vie |
Trebor.
03.25.23 | I feel that. I just bought Re4make on ps4 cuz my computer can't handle it |
Drbebop
03.25.23 | Yeah, I’ll probably just get it on Xbone or something in that bundle with 3make. OG RE2 is my fave game in the series and I hear the remake is god tier so I honestly shouldn’t stay away tbh |
Trebor.
03.25.23 | 2make is one of my favorite games but it is slightly disappointing compared to the original because it doesn't have stuff like weapon zapping from the original |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | The whole scenario a and b thing is my only real gripe with re2make. It's just an arrange mode sadly but its my favorite re game after 4.
@Dr if it's the outfit you unlock her default when you beat the game. If it's the way she looks then idk what to say. I think she looks pretty good fwiw. I do think re4make Leon looks and talks way too similar to re2make Leon. |
BAT
03.25.23 | that cabin fight made me just about as angry as when i first played the original, can't wait for the water room |
Shemson
03.25.23 | Claire was a pretty radical change given how similar Leon has looked throughout but then so was Jill in 3.
Just view them as alternate realities rather than remakes and enjoy the shit out of RE2 remake because it’s outstanding and very true to the original. 3 remake was short and cut out the clock tower completely so it felt liked a rushed out cash in off the back of RE2.
Looking forward to getting a bit deeper into this one today. I’m much less attached to the events of 4 so won’t care about cut content or changed stuff. |
DungeonBoy
03.25.23 | RE3 remake was awesome though. I didn't really notice, or was bothered by I guess, how "short" it was, but that seems to be the major complaint. I also got it on sale for like 10 bucks which is a no-brainer. The character models for RE2 and RE3 were pretty great, not sure what you guys are going on about. |
Shemson
03.25.23 | Nah I didn’t care about the characters changing they just did, didn’t ruin anything!
If you got it for 10 bucks then I can see why you weren’t disappointed. I got it pre-order full price mega hyped after how good RE2 remake was and when I finished it was kind of… ‘is that it?’
Very enjoyable game but short and no DLC. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | It is not a 60$ game and Capcom knew it which is why they added resistance or wtf ever it was call but people just wanted a juicier main game. |
Shemson
03.25.23 | Oh yeah I forgot about that crap that wasn’t ready for like a year after release, never played it, that’s not what I’m into RE for! |
ConcubinaryCode
03.25.23 | Don't worry, no one else is playing it either. |
