TheSonomaDude 03.29.19	Metal could make a potential comeback but the issue is that rap/trap music is at an all time high and modern metal music is lifeless and stagnant. I think we just need a band that could punch through the psuedo-mainstream with an original and fresh sound that's still obviously metal, enough to regain people's attention in the genre. This sorta thing happened in the early 80's with the downfall of bands like Sabbath and the rise of Metallica and Iron Maiden and in the 90's with the rise in nu-metal after a few years of nothing. It could happen again.
granitenotebook 03.29.19	early-mid 2020s will see a rise in high-energy pop music , potentially rap infused, probably with some sort of connection to a edm trend that has largely already came and went at that point (in an ideal world it’d be footwork but it’ll probably be like extremely low-effort sophie knockoffs or something). rock will continue to be dead although it’s continued underground-ness means it’ll be a little more exciting if less prolific. wealth and it’s effect will become a bigger part of music criticism. disco-lite will become a slightly bigger thing towards the end of the pop trend i mentioned in the first sentence. hip-hip will stagnate, and i have absolutely no idea what will replace it.

Rik VII 03.29.19	Metal has reached the point where the most popular bands are actually either (virtually) parodies, nostalgia suckers or old bands that people just listen to because they liked their stuff decades ago. I don't think it'll make a comeback anytime in the near future. Jazz however, I can definitely see that one coming back, with a lot of modern elements. Like, I can imagine electro jazz becoming a significant niche in the future. "hip-hip will stagnate, and i have absolutely no idea what will replace it." Yes, and to be honest, I'm kinda excited to see what could take its place. It's completely unpredictable as of now.

Death Grips are like a 10 year old band. Lmao and rap has had experimental artists since the 90's. And Bones was doing Ghostemane's sound in 2012. "Melodic heavy music?" Again it's been done and done and done some more. "I can see stoner rock breaking more into the mainstream tbh" As if Queens of the Stone Age haven't been one of the biggest bands in the world for like 20 years.
