| 2500 ratings, 7 years. Fuck that shit.
I wiped it all. I was tired of seeing my ratings, and I don't remember a lot bunch of the albums that I rated. Now all I need is some recommendations on what to listen to to bolster my ratings, so please throw something out that might be cool. Or don't.
List is my albums of the year, but I deleted my ratings, so I probably am forgetting a couple in this moment. | 1 | | Hop Along Bark Your Head Off, Dog
Hop Along has always been a band that I appreciated, but could never really digest properly. It may have had something to do with the dryness of Frances' voice, but when I heard the live version of "Sister Cities" I fell in love with it. And this lead me to check out their new single, "How Simple", god damn do I love that song. Every single math exam I took from the beginning of this year all the way up to the final a few weeks ago, this song would just play on repeat in my head, not sure why. Took me a couple months to actually listen to the Bark Your Head Off, Dog but god, there is not a single bad track on it | 2 | | Spanish Love Songs Schmaltz
I do a song swap with my Ohio friend every so often to round out our tastes with new types of bands we otherwise would not have listened to. I would not have listened to this band without her, yet it is such a band straight up my alley, as they are so similar to The Menzingers. This is another album where there really isn't much in the way of filler for me, as every song hits hard for me. | 3 | | Brian Fallon Sleepwalkers
I just really, really like Brian Fallon guys.
And Etta James is one of the best songs he has ever written. | 4 | | mewithoutYou [Untitled]
I never really listened to this band too deeply before, I've heard an album or two maybe once in my life. I think I might be missing out on it, cause this album is pretty damn good. The hype train did not fail me this time. | 5 | | The Sidekicks Happiness Hours
I used to love this band so much, they were integral in shaping my tastes as a teenager. Their first album was always my favorite, and then with each subsequent album they released I started to actively dislike their music, culminating with Runners in the Nerved World, which sucked. I listened to Happiness Hours on a whim just so I could get another 2.5 into my ratings. And to my surprise this album was by far their most cohesive and well put together album they've ever released; it made me so happy to see this band really put out something that seemed fully realized. The title track is one of my favorites of the entire year, and will forever be on my roadtrip playlist. | 6 | | IDLES Joy as an Act of Resistance
This shit's fun. | 7 | | Denzel Curry TA13OO
Finish 'em Zel. | 8 | | Skeletonwitch Devouring Radiant Light
What a comeback, I listened to this band back in high school a bit and they eventually completely left my radar until I heard the EP with their new singer, Adam Clemens. It was pretty good. I began listening to the band again when I befriended Adam's gf, and god damn does this album slay from front to back. I don't really listen to metal often anymore, but this is without a doubt the best metal release I heard this year. | 9 | | Death Grips Year of the Snitch
This is probably the most accessible Death Grups album out there, but it's still pretty damn great. One of their best even. | 10 | | Color TV Color T.V.
Local band that absolutely rules, and their debut is no different. | 11 | | Rata Negra Justicia Cosmica
I don't know much about this band, but I do know that I listened to them because it was on someone's list... I think PapaUniverse's. This album captures the energy of a live show in a dive bar so perfectly. | 12 | | Flatbush Zombies Vacation in Hell
Vacation in Hell brings Flatbush's style back to the days of BetteroffDead, but with a more pop edge to it. Sometimes it works really well (HELL-O) and then sometimes it kinda sucks (Vacation in Hell, Big Shrimp). Even with the duds, there is enough content in this album to be a fun spin. | 13 | | Chain Cult Demo
Still need to listen to "Isolated" but their Demo is fantastic. | 14 | | Nine Inch Nails Bad Witch
The most Bowie that NIN has ever been. It's pretty great. | 15 | | Haru Nemuri Haru to Shura
This is kinda weird, but good weird. I dig it. | 16 | | MURF MURF
Another local band that has an undying love for Robocop. It may be kinda dumb, but it's such good driving music. | |

01.04.19 | you could check out my band's latest album, if you're into independent artists. If ya like alt rock, shoegaze, post punk, and/or emo, you'll find something to like in us, i think. the band's name is Elemantra and our latest album is To Know Better. we're in the database here and also on Spotify and Apple Music. Here's a link to our Bandcamp, as well: https://elemantraband.bandcamp.com/ | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | I was actually pretty sad about it. But like.... Man it's been so long, I need to look on a lot of those with fresh eyes.... ears? I gotta re listen.
and thanks for some of the recssss | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | 15 is pretty great man.
I like all of those.
EDIT wait! I know your band already! I liked that album quite a bit, it's on my best of 2018 playlist--specifically Roll Up The Window. I actually showed a few of my friends it too, good stuff man, will re-listen | JohnnyoftheWell
01.04.19 | Downloading that shit right now, got any recs with a similar vibe? | oWhoadYo
01.04.19 | Really? That's awesome man! Thank you, Really happy to hear that! Roll Up The Window is def one of my favorite songs I've written, and I've felt that it hadn't been many people's favorites. Did you watch the music video I made for it, by chance? | ArsMoriendi
01.04.19 | Just the idea of deleting all of my ratings stresses me out
I don't think I'd ever be able to do that
Especially since it's the primary reason I use this website | ArsMoriendi
01.04.19 | Glad you're happy though | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | To me Haru Nemuri is kind of in between Tricot and Melt-Banana, so those are really the only two close things I could think of. If you find any other band similar I'd love to know!
I had not watched it before, but I just did now. I dig it, it fits the mood pretty well I'd say, and the "freak out" near the end is pretty cool! In a way it kind of reminds me of the long drives it takes, thanks in part to the music of course.
| Minushuman24
01.04.19 | Yeah, it took me a good month of contemplating and then deciding that I just need to rip the band-aid off.
Aw thanks Ars. | JohnnyoftheWell
01.04.19 | Ah cool, been meaning to jam Tricot for a while and am currently at the start of what feels like a Melt-Banana obsession, so this bodes well - will lyk if I jam anything similar! | oWhoadYo
01.04.19 | thank you man, I'm glad you liked it! It was really fun to make. I did want to simulate the feeling of driving for a long while, in a way. Ultimately, I wanted the video to feel like a night and day driving experience. I also wanted it to be melancholic and an abstracted take or view on a ordinary task. Similar to how you can do something over and over, but after a significant life event those everyday tasks feel just different, ya know? If that makes sense | oWhoadYo
01.04.19 | Also, it definitely took some big balls to delete all them ratings, my man. I don't think I could do it. Especially if i had as many as you had! | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | Oh!! Johnny, you might dig some Shiina Ringo. And yeah let me know, thanks man.
Yeah, man I completely get ya on that. I can relate to most of those things.
It reminds me in a way of when I was kind of at rock bottom and I decided to just up and leave for upstate New York and then Salem, Massachusetts. I drove for over a day straight and it all just blurred together, not really the best place I've been in. For everyday tasks, such as picking up some friends, it can become this completely life altering task that you have preformed many times before, and it kind of feels chaotic, but at the same time calm. Now I feel like I'm not making any sense. | widowslaugh123
01.04.19 | Yuh that takes bravery | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | Yuh. | JohnnyoftheWell
01.04.19 | Haha Shiina Ringo is queen, got all the love for her!! | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | oh damn, I should really check your ratings first haha. She's so great. | JohnnyoftheWell
01.04.19 | Never a bad time to listen to her | oWhoadYo
01.04.19 | no, i totally get that, it makes sense to me. And those are the feelings I was trying to achieve with the album, really. Most notably in A Good Man and Roll Up The Window, especially in the video for the latter. But yeah, I was sort of at rock bottom as well, and I would catch myself brushing my teeth or driving or just sitting down, and noticing it just felt "weird". Like out of body of sorts. It's odd what depression and anxiety can do. But I digress.
Upstate, ya say? I'm from and live in upstate NY! well, western NY to be exact. I currently live in Buffalo but am from a small town south of Buffalo called Salamanca. Where in upstate were ya headed? and where ya from? | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | Man, depressing thread is a bit depressing. But I get that, the last two weeks have been a state of constant existential crisis and everything from just watching a video has got me looking at things completely differently, it really sucks. So I get that for sure
Oh I passed through Buffalo on that trip! It was like 6am and I was in a lot of traffic haha. I just kinda spent some time along the highway, don't really remember some of the towns I went to. And I drove from near Minneapolis, Minnesota. | oWhoadYo
01.04.19 | Alright, no more depressing stuff! haha and oh man, all the way from Minneapolis? That is one hell of a drive, my guy. That sounds like a super interesting story. The cause of it, the journey, the destination. Time for you to write some songs or make a short film or something! | Minushuman24
01.04.19 | hahaha, sorry. Yeah it was definitely a drive, I started to regret it when I hit Indiana, but it was far too late. 72 hours and 4 hours of sleep. The road trips I've been on really makes me want to find an outlet for my energy, and I kinda do that with photography stuff--not great photography, but I try. But yeah! I should do something with that haha. | BerryGarlicia

01.05.19 | That's a good idea. I made my major media arts with a concentration on production awhile back and I'm really glad that I did. I'm sure you'll like it a lot, whatever you decide to do | Minushuman24
