Got on a plane REVIE

and flew all the way round the world and now I'm back on GMT. Hello UK Sputnik. My Japanese vibe for Sput tmzs is even more desynchronized than my body clock and everything is confusion. Here are some very scatty superficial reflections
1Fuck Buttons
Tarot Sport

England has no social distancing measures and seeing people walking around without masks was a big ol' culture shock
2Haruka Nakamura
Twilight

Hearing actual British accents (home counties, for now) everywhere was also a culture shock and I've been weirdly self-conscious about addressing people in my cranky accent/parlance. Going from an international space where any English is okay as long as you can broadly communicate to a local space where people actively don't use certain figures of speech is an inconsequential headfuck and I will not stop thinking about it.
3Haruka Nakamura
Grace

Eating bread with hard crusts and proper bacon again sparks joy.
Remembering what gardens are like sparks joy.
Being able to speak at 200% speed without relying on my diaphragm vaguely sparks joy.
Tall people being normalised (ft. high ceilings!) sparks joy but is intimidating.
Not having to constantly apologise for everything sparks joy.
Readily available public waste disposal places spark major fucking joy.

[side-note: this album is lovely and precious, and I like it a fair bit more than Twilight (admittedly having spent much more time with it)]
4Material Girl
i85mixx21-22

Lack of bottled green tea, onigiri, yakitori/nikuman, supermarket gyoza etcetc does not spark joy.
Automatically semi-translating everything I want to say into Japanese and then not being able to say it does not spark joy.
Not being able to litter my vernacular with expedient Japanese words does not spark joy.
Train fares and the exchange rate do not spark joy.
Huge timezone difference does not spark joy.
Having to buy US mains power adapters to get my shit to work does not spark joy

[this album is the best experimental sadboi record of the year and is currently in my top 3]
5Number Girl
School Girl Distortional Addict

The whole leaving process was so chaotic that I didn't have many moments to feel actively sad about it, but I don't think the feeling that spanned between the border control lady punching a hole in my visa card and watching Tokyo fall away as the plane took off is something that I'll be able to put into words properly for a while to come. I think it was the right time to leave Japan, but the physical feeling of having two years' worth of homecountry experience snatched away would have had me U-turning in an instant if it were possible
6Yeule
Glitch Princess

Everyone is old now. Pints
7Stereolab
Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements

Watched Last Night in Soho out of morbid curiosity on my first slight. What a disaster. I shall never think of it again.
8Coaltar of the Deepers
Yukari Telepath

Oh yeah LOL I fucked up my packing horrendously and was so far overweight on my hold and hand luggage that I ended up having to walk security wearing three jackets, all pockets crammed with books/lights/camera lenses/all heavy shit like a fat giant with a huge waist. Not ideal, but also did not pay one extra yen on that horde - huzzah!
