05.13.13 | Progressive music, to me, is music that is always reinventing itself and pushing boundaries. That's what all those 70s bands did. Progressive music isn't about time signature changes and technical riffs and arpeggios. That's technical music.
If my "list is fuckin stupid" and I "don't understand what progressive is" then why don't you offer your own view on it? That's the whole reason I made this list: for people to tell me why they think I'm wrong. Not that I'm stupid, cuz that adds nothing. |
zombi666
05.13.13 | Theres a lot of shit on this list but at least you have #4 |
dannyboy89
05.13.13 | If you ask me, the term technical is so broad it can apply to a wide variety of cases. Plus, one of the typical traits of prog is its emphasis on technicality. Hence why choosing between one and the other is simply absurd. |

05.13.13 | Progressive things are usually technical in some form or another anyway [2] |
Dolving999
05.13.13 | BTBAM, the best of both worlds. I still love TDEP and Opeth, though. |
SitarHero
05.13.13 | I've always thought of Tech as an offshoot/subgenre of Prog. It seems more limited in scope to me and almost all Tech bands have strong Prog tendencies anyway. |
conesmoke
05.13.13 | such a dum list lol. Meshuggah for the win m/ |

05.18.13 | Looks like everybody missed the point : |
climactic
05.18.13 | the problem with this list is that "technical" isn't a genre. some jazz is extremely technical, but you don't call it "technical jazz". some folk music uses super "technical" guitar techniques but you don't call it "technical folk".
within the ruins happens to be pretty technical, but they're really just metalcore.
and saying dillinger, cynic and meshuggah aren't progressive in nature is just wrong. |
lately
05.18.13 | You silly fooly prog is always better than tech lol |
Dodecahedron
05.18.13 | One thing that annoys me is when people think that something is progressive just because it's lengthy. Lengthy track times does not automatically mean it's progressive in nature. |
ffs
05.18.13 | i care |
ffs
05.18.13 | borat.jpg |
