06.15.22 | Metalcore needs different names for its different generations. 90's to 2005, 2005 to like 2015, and 2015 forward. This is the most underrated out of the middle gen easy. |
botb
06.15.22 | When it comes to the bouncy melodic stuff, I agree. Them or honestly Shai Hulud is wild underrated outside of music forum nerds like us |
parksungjoon
06.15.22 | shai hulud are legit iirc |
pjquinones747
06.15.22 | Shai Hulud fucking rips, got lucky enough to see them live last year. I need to give their records more time though. |
Mort.
06.15.22 | Didn't these guys become HAWK or something?
Anyways apparently I've rated these albums as 4s or 3.5s but I literally don't remember them at all |
Pikazilla
06.15.22 | 2005 to 2015 had at least three different iterations of metalcore that were super popular in that time
should probably split the decade up more |
pjquinones747
06.15.22 | You're right because there's melodeath/thrash inspired metalcore (All That Remains, Trivium, BFMV etc), hardcore inspired metalcore (Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, etc) and then there's the ones who came out like 5 years later than all of these that made scene metalcore...dont even have to name examples for that one. |

nah it's more like 90's to 2001 (integrity, converge, shai hulud, coalesce, botch, etc...) 2002 to 2008 (melodic metalcore) 2009-2014 (rise/scenecore) 2014 to present (nu-metaldjentcore) |

06.15.22 | 1 & 2 are all-timers. 3 is great. The other two I really wanna hear but cant find anywhere |
pjquinones747
06.15.22 | Spirit you nailed it.
I'm listening to HAWK now and it's not the same but it certainly isn't bad. The man can sing! |

06.15.22 | They were pretty popular on sput back in the day, but yeah don't hear much about them now. |
pjquinones747
06.15.22 | I was at one of their last shows as TotA and there was almost nobody there. It's a damn shame. |
JeetJeet
06.15.22 | @parks ohhh shit, thanks! |

06.16.22 | These guys rocked, I remember finding them through pandora back in the day when I was first getting into metalcore as a whole lol, Dead Years is goated as fuck |
Josh D.
06.16.22 | This is it, or the apocalypse
woah oh |
pjquinones747
06.16.22 | Yeah @Steak I found these guys towards the end of my years as a metalcore fanboy and they remain peak middle-gen metalcore. |

As they say |
Scoot
06.16.22 | that's my saying actually lol
i was their biggest dickrider for years. when i first started shipping plastic soul impalement it had like 12 ratings |
Scoot
06.16.22 | btw check that album out, if you can get past the grainy production it's one of the best core albums ever made |
Emim
06.16.22 | I know, you were the one that turned me onto them. Focal Point is good too. |
pjquinones747
06.16.22 | Yeah so far TfU is amazing! |
MarsKid
06.16.22 | I don't mind the prod on those classic discs tbh, makes them sound darker and more villainous to me. |
pjquinones747
06.16.22 | Yeah I think if this had incredible modern production it wouldn't hit the same |
MarsKid
06.16.22 | If you're into dark -core and haven't jammed it yet, get Cult Fiction by Spitfire in your life ASAP. Pure nihilist glory. |
outliers
06.16.22 | Grant ruled so hard on Monuments and HWL |
Emim
06.17.22 | Spitfire is another mad underrated band. I prefer their first album but all of them go hard. |
heck
06.17.22 | "You're right because there's melodeath/thrash inspired metalcore (All That Remains, Trivium, BFMV etc), hardcore inspired metalcore (Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, etc)"
I think you meant to put Killswitch in the first category. |
Mort.
06.17.22 | yeah i was a bit baffled by that
|
MarsKid
06.17.22 | User Mort is BAFFLED |
pjquinones747
06.17.22 | @heck KSE is definitely the rare case of both. They literally have their roots in 90's hardcore. One of the previous bands that had KSE members, Overcast, is made comparable to Vision of Disorder via Sputnik and they're similar to Earth Crisis. The audible similarities to melodeath are absolutely there as well but even if they don't sound much like it, they are rooted in both. |
JeetJeet
06.17.22 | Yea Alive or Just Breathing is like a big blend of hardcore and melodeath and it works so well. |
outliers
06.17.22 | anybody else remember when these guys were on that Mtv show Silent Library like 12 years ago |
pjquinones747
06.17.22 | I loved that show but had no clue any band besides All Time Low ever ended up on there. outliers are you referring to TotA being on SL or KSE being on SL? |
outliers
06.17.22 | TOTA was on there haha https://www.mtv.com/episodes/6cq82i/silent-library-vampire-face-pop-season-1-ep-4
i dont have cable so i can't watch dammit |
