i think this is honestly one of the more crippling things that can happen to a person. i think i care a healthy amount, but if anything i think i tend not to care enough, which means that sometimes i can be a little dickish or inconsiderate because it doesn't much matter to me what people think about me. this is not to say i don't care about people's feelings, because i do, i just don't care much what people's opinions are of me. still care if i'm hurting people tho. |

When I have an opportunity to date someone I like, I pretty much go through the entire relationship in my head to the point that we break up, and then just say fuck it. Jason Sudekis offers this advice in Meet the Millers, and it's incredibly simple but effective. Just count to 3 and do it. Gives ya a second to think but not enough to overthink. It's not used to make folks with serious anxiety and ptsd issues happy, it's used to help them open up and talk out their feelings instead of bottling it up, which is the norm for folks with these issues. I wouldn't recommend it as medication to someone who just has some social issues like some of the people here, and definitely not saying that it should be taken on regular occassion, but people dealing with serious trama can and have found it to be beneficial. It's also been used to help rape victims.

Start running, go to the gym, talk to a counsellor of you think it will do you good. Or, you know, you could just sit around feeling sorry for yourself. Your happiness depends on YOU. |

Only because you can reach a higher level of introspection makes you think you'd not want to be that guy, because you've had the higher emotional intelligence. But you wouldn't know and you'be a happy fellow. Wisdom is misery."
"Wisdom is misery" is an incredibly ignorant statement. Wisdom can only bring clarity of what really is. Focusing on your faults is not wisdom either... that is also ignorance. Most people don't realize that they are slaves of their mind, and that can be a wicked relationship. The mind works for you... not the other way around. True introspection is not a mental thing, it's an intuitional thing... watching the mind and it's craziness without becoming tied up in it. |

10.12.13 | According to who? A delusional society... where money, fame, and lust is the ultimate goals of life? Please. So many people are afraid to admit that they don't know what the hell this life is about. They swallow their
conditioning and move on like puppets. What is the goal of this life anyway? Wife, kids, comfortable house, stable job... then you die and are soon completely forgotten. For what? |

Point being that most people don't have answers, but they want to believe that they do. What's wrong with being honest and saying you don't know? |

It can. It also ends with death. Maybe there are more lasting answers. Just maybe, eh. |

It is not my statement though. It's derived from the number of smart(er) people who suffer from mental disorders (depression, anxiety) as opposed to dumb(er) people. Who started this, I don't know. I agree with the rest you said. |

10.12.13 | my point is answers are different for different people, you're implying there's one static answer that no one knows. I know my answers, my goals, and exactly what I want from life. The question has been answered and closed in my book. |

10.12.13 | srs answer? sure
i have a great academic/career future ahead of me in a field ripe with the ability to 'make a difference' (everyone goes thru this existential crisis i assume). i have family and friends who care about me, i like the way i look (even if there are things i'd change), and in general i think i'm a positive influence on people around me (e.g. helping them academically or with family issues)
obv there's stuff i'm not happy with, e.g. being single, but even then i've embraced it (seriously, the ability to flirt with every pretty girl you meet is pretty awesome in its own right) |
