| Summer Reeding
Stuff I've read so far this summer. Rec me some good shyt to read | 1 | | The Coltranes I've Got Heaven in My Smile
"Everything Matters" by Ron Currie; Started out good but kind of turned into
senseless drivel by the end. | 2 | | Wavves Afraid of Heights
"Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand; A harrowing yet humbling (true) WWII story about
former olympian Louis Zamperini. Dude gets stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific for
upwards of 40 days, only to be found by the Japanese who abuse him in POW
camps for like two years. | 3 | | Trash Talk Trash Talk
"The Fifty Year Sword" by Mark Z. Danielewski; His latest, a much quicker read than
House of Leaves but the story and language in this book are incredible. Poetic yet
not overdone or pretentious. Absolutely love this book. | 4 | | GDP Useless Eaters
"Ham on Rye" by Charles Bukowski; Classic, no explanation needed. | 5 | | State Lines For the Boats
"From the Graveyard of the Arousal Industry" by Justin Pearson; Basically an
autobiography. Pearson has a pretty wild story to tell as well as a lot of interesting
insights to share. | |

06.10.13 | how have you already read 5 books this summer? I can't even get through 100 pages of Richard Ford's 'The Sportswriter' without procrastinating | iSkane
06.10.13 | I thought Everything Matters! was pretty good. The whole thing with cancer was kind of ridiculous, but I enjoyed it a lot. | DamnVanne
06.10.13 | I got some recs, friend. Fever Ray and Aldous Huxley. | Rail
06.10.13 | My comment from another book list:
Denis Johnson - Train Dreams. A smoky novella about the American Midwest.
Deborah Levy - Black Vodka. Ten gorgeous short-stories about love and loss.
Keith Ridgeway - Hawthorne and Child. A quirky and very funny detective novel, featuring lots of weird characters and plenty of gay sex.
Glenn Patterson - The International. A tense and excellent story about a hotel, set during the beginning of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
I hope you'll check out one or two of those. These book lists tend to regurgitate the same canonical texts, but sometimes its good to go off the beaten path. | ResidentNihilist
06.10.13 | Don Delilo - Underworld | pmmets07

06.10.13 | I'm definitely gonna check out The Fifty Year Sword. I just finished reading The Shining and the Road. The Shining was incredible, but the Road was a disappointment for me. Currently reading A Song of Ice and Fire and American Gods. | WeepingBanana
