12.18.11 | Just got 1 and 2 on vinyl, not sure if i really need a 5 string either |

12.18.11 | Damn this bass is pretty sweet. With the active electronics, it should be able to do nearly everything. |
Scoot
12.18.11 | the bassist is always the fat one who smells like cheese and plays minecraft in between sets |

12.18.11 | depends what you want to play, but having owned both this and the precision bass, they're both great, industry-standard models. Get the jazz bass if you want a more trebly tone, the precision if you want a bit more bottom end, but i'd try them both out if i were you. Personally I prefer the precision |

12.18.11 | i really like this one but its pretty expensive so i need to find like a cheaper version or something like it. or i could just get a 4 string |
jefflebowski
12.18.11 | fender sells 'mexican' versions of both the jazz and precision basses which are about half the price and still really good. I don't think youd get the active electronics or any of that fancy shit though |

12.18.11 | what do the active eletronics even do? i may look into that actually because im really liking this bass. if not ill just look at a schector or something |
Hep Kat
12.18.11 | active pickups use a preamp to control frequencies and such. not a bad choice, but i would check out rondo music for a better bass at a better price |
SCREAMorphine
12.18.11 | It's pretty nice |

12.18.11 | I used to love Fenders, then I tried out my Warwick, and haven't looked back since. They're absolutely beautiful, and especially for an intermediate player, the quality is unmatchable. I find their necks are much easier to navigate than the Fender, especially the Jazz, without as much loss of sustain as you get on Ibanez models and such. Plus, the bridge adjustments are out of this world. Had mine for a year and still haven't played around with all of them. The tone is great with a dece pair of strings too. My Rockbass Corvette cost me $920 $AU, has active electronics, and is pretty much all around the best intermediate level bass I've ever played. |

12.18.11 | I have a Squire Jazz bass
It gets me where I need to go |

12.18.11 | I would get those but the only problem for me right now is the money. I might just save up and stick with this one |
Ire
12.18.11 | i have a jag bass with an active preamp and passive pickups. it's pretty much best of both worlds so i'd go for that if you can find a bass with that.
i'd check rondomusic.com if you can't go over 700 bucks |

12.18.11 | Is a 5-string necessary? If it's only used for a few songs then it'd be cheaper to stick with a 4 string Fender and look for a used one. Just my opinion |
Trebor17
12.18.11 | 5 strings are for if you play in drop b but are too lazy to down tune
|
ZombicidalMan
12.18.11 | ^
Know a dude with a 5 string Music Man (StingRay maybe), it's absolutely beastly. Agree with the suggestions of Rondo, too, they have great quality for less |
climactic
12.18.11 | ^ @trebor definitely bro |
Butkuiss
12.18.11 | The only problem I have with 5 strings is that I find on a lot of models the strings sit too close together for my liking. |
BugZoid
12.19.11 | Whatever it is, since the link won't work, just buy my four string Rockbass by Warwick. It needs a home and I'm a six string guy now. |
AsoTamaki
12.19.11 | Once you play a 5 string, you'll wonder how you ever survived with only 4. It's pretty much essential unless you're only playing rock music. The ESP LTD series is cheap and high quality. |
BugZoid
12.20.11 | And once you make the move from a 5 to a 6 string and start creating your own personal agenda on the six strings you'll wonder why you ever only made the single string jump from four to five. But if you're just rock music, jazz, or anything contemporary I'd say a five will suit you well. |
climactic
12.20.11 | and once you join a band youll wonder why you ever chose bass in the first place |
KILL
12.20.11 | warwicks are the best ive used |
Imperial
12.20.11 | I'd love to play some mr.bungle tunes on that thing. |
BugZoid
12.20.11 | I love Warwicks. That growl. There's nothing like it.
@climactic - I suppose that would depend on the type of music being created. The bassist doesn't always have to just be in the background playing something boring. They can experiment just as much as any other member. Maybe you're just listening to the wrong music. |
