Underappreciated Albums
Most of these are fairly recent |
1 | | Boat Songs That You Might Not Like
Maybe it just showed up at the wrong time. This album is stacked with mid-fi 2 minute indie pop
gems but isn't strong the whole way through. For fans of: Built to Spill, etc. |
2 | | Saturday Looks Good To Me All Your Summer Songs
It's pretty lo-fi and was released right between the "lo-fi is cool" eras in the 90s and late
aughts. For fans of: Lo-fi beach music |
3 | | Islands Vapours
Everyone still loves Who Will Cut Our Hair... but so move check out this post-Unicorns
project. It's a shame because this is one of the best summer albums of the last decade. For fans of: restrained Of Montreal |
4 | | Beulah When Your Heartstrings Break
Maybe if they released this through Elephant 6 it would have been more successful. One of
the best albums from that scene. For fans of: NMH and Pop songs with horns |
5 | | Bomb the Music Industry! Scrambles
Probably has to with being too DIY, but I would expect some of the streetlight manifesto fan
base to find this album. Funny cause I heard of them through this site and my friend who
actually listens to the radio. For fans of: punk with synths |
6 | | Mikal Cronin MCII
He is way more accessible (and makes better music) than buddy Ty Segall and yet still is
over shadowed by him. I suspect that this will change with time. For fans of: Most popular rock bands |
7 | | Gold-bears Dalliance
Okay so it's a little to punk and noisey to be considered twee, but its basically made for fans
of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. For fans of: tPoBPaH(?) and guitar feedback |
8 | | Delay Trees Delay Trees
A weak follow up hurt this band, but their debut album was fantastic. For fans of: Sigur Ros/Normal length songs/songs sung in a
real language |
9 | | Big Ups Eighteen Hours of Static
They get a lot of good press and should be more popular with the punk crowd. I guess good
reviews aren't punk anymore. For fans of: fast songs and guitar noise |
10 | | Batida Batida
This album combines 70s era African pop songs with modern dance beats and hip hop. Not
sure how it was overlooked by both the edm and vampy weeks kids. for fans of: VW and Deadmau5 (maybe not) |
11 | | Kishi Bashi 151a
It got a lot of attention when it first came out but was completely dismissed in most
end of the year lists. For fans of: pop songs with violins/of montreal |
12 | | Can Tago Mago
The next 3 albums are popular, but should be more. Everyone knows Sonic Youth and
The Velvet Underground, but only music fans know Can. |
13 | | Lucinda Williams Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
I live in Tx and would expect this album to be very popular here but it just isn't. Maybe her version
of country/blues/rock isn't hick enough for everyone. |
14 | | YG My Krazy Life
I have no idea why YG isn't one of the most popular rappers right now. Half the songs
on this album are legit club bangers but you rarely hear them. |
