toxin. 04.16.13	whoa wall of text we're not peasant farmers in cambodia, if we have petabytes of music to choose from why not listen to what we enjoy most? we live in a world where music is a form of human expression, i don't think bashing on nickelback for diluting this expression for the sake of $$$ makes us awful people. almost anything you complain about can be seen as a 1WP if you frame it as so (wow your shoes have a pair of holes on them? at least you have shoes. wow your girlfriend broke up with you? at least yours didn't just die of aids. etc.). yeah we're entitled but i don't think having a music taste is the biggest issue that arises from this sense of entitlement at the same time you have a (somewhat unrelated) point about elitism and how stupid it is, can't disagree with you there

I'd rather spend more time listening to and talking about good music. Besides it very rare that you will get people to stop liking it no matter how much it annoys you because it only perpetuates the ability for people to create bad music because people will listen to it anyway. The best way you can end the cycle of shitty music is ignore it and hope it will go away.

toxin. 04.16.13	@kris, that's an excellent point. it depends on which way you look at it, though i guess the difference is that if you frame it in terms of actual music (goddamn laura stevenson is better than nickelback objectively) then i absolutely agree with you. it's something i've tried to stop doing IRL and probably should stop doing in sputnik. however i don't think it's wrong to criticize music in terms of the message it sends, particularly to impressionable children. the message could be (nickelback) that it's okay to dilute emotions for the sake of money (and that you can be really profitable pandering to hormonal teenagers). or it could be that of the entire mainstream rap culture, where a) misogyny and the glorification of sex, violence, and drugs and b) the ability to profit off of impressionable children while imparting to them these same values (or rather, non-values) is just sad. (and yeah i don't think lil wayne would be rapping about his dick every song if he didn't think he'd make money from it so point b) stands
