77Flying Lotus
Cosmogramma

This is not the new Mezzanine, or the second coming of Christ. This is Flylo attempting to push the envelope as far as he can, and pushing it just a little too far. He's got the idea right, (and for the most part he does nail it) but it's too much at times, too out there with everything cluttered too tightly, every sound possible struggling for some sort of purchase. Whatever Cosmogramma 2 might be, well that'll be the definer - not this
76Gold Panda
Lucky Shiner

Quietly, Undramatically

NZ drum & bass outfit that lost a member (now making it a solo project) strangely finding some much needed maturity

48The National
High Violet

This is as high as it gets. It's a great album (even by The National standards, which are pretty high) but it is by no means perfection

Gloriously retro and delightfully playful
36Titus Andronicus
The Monitor

Probably not as high as you would've liked - The Monitor represents the soundtrack to a part of my life that I wish I didn't have. But I do, but I take a little solace in knowing that I'm not the only one
35Gonjasufi
A Sufi And A Killer
34StrangeZero
Newborn Butterflies

Intimate, frightening, exhausting, pensive, isolated - these are all words that come to mind when I listen to this
33Frightened Rabbit
The Winter Of Mixed Drinks
32Madlib

Forgot about this, didn't ya?
31Mutiny Within
Mutiny Within

This album is so gloriously self indulgent and I love every second of it
30Autechre
Oversteps

A return to form, ditching we don't beats or a percussion line, or an anchor to make music. Lost a little of the sprawling and liquid nature of their last 2 albums and managed to refine their sound along the way

3Deftones
Diamond Eyes

Does this need a description, really?
2Phaeleh
Fallen Light

Delicate, beautiful and mesmerizing. Future garage does a duet with dubstep and comes out with one of the most hypnotic and charming albums of the year
1Noisia
Split The Atom

What were you expecting here, Indie? Surfjan? Anyone who knows me here should not be surprised by this. Essentially 7 years in the making with the result a jaw dropping excursion across multiple genres and enough bass to rattle your teeth, Split The Atom was always going to be #1, from pretty much the moment it dropped back in April. And here's your music video of the year by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAO-lzl3vVQ
