More Things Of A Deviant Nature

No thanks? What does that mean? Means you ate before you came down here? All full. Is that it? Naw, I don't think so. I think you're too scared to be eatin'. Now, see we're sittin' down here, ready to negotiate, and you've already given up your shit. I'm still a mystery to you. But I know exactly where your white ass is comin' from. See, if I asked you if you wanted some dinner and you grabbed an egg roll and started to chow down, I'd say to myself, "This motherfucker's carryin' on like he ain't got a care in the world. Who know? Maybe he don't. Maybe this fool's such a bad motherfucker, he don't got to worry about nothin', he just sit down, eat my Chinese, watch my TV." See? You ain't even sat down yet. On that TV there, since you been in the room, is a woman with her breasteses hangin' out, and you ain't even bothered to look. You just been clockin' me. Now, I know I'm pretty, but I ain't as pretty as a couple of titties.
1Om Unit
Aeolian

In the short time that Om Unit has been around, he's managed to carve out a rather unique path for himself with his hybridized form of techno, dubstep and hip hop swagger. Earning the praise and attention of the likes of Pinch and Kromestar along the way, Om has slowly evolved from an artist intent on showering the nightclubs with bangers into a more introspective and contemplative beatmaker, and Aeolian is a prime example of his production nous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI6Kw-7CFGM and here's Reso getting crazy on the remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGwwcWbw_EI
2Mala
Cuba Electronic/Calle F

So Mala's dubstep meets Cuban swing album might not be the greatest thing in the world, but it's still an absurdly interesting premise: undoubtedly the greatest dubstep producer around taking a trip to Cuba and then being inspired enough to make a whole album out of it. London meets the Tropicana maybe? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vDiPQtkVI8
3Cosmin TRG
Vertigo/Sommer

TRG follows on from his debut LP Simulat, dropping two really rather lovely deep tribal house cuts for Modeselektor's 50 Weapons imprint. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRJQaLRFnEg
4Trevino
Discovery

Who knew that Marcus Intalex would be so adept at crafting such jiving house tunes? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh9KTe5hI_A
5Rivet
Amid The Roar

The current (masked) man of the hour, dropping pure adrenalin in the form of some of the tastiest boiler room acid techno tracks you'll never hear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4JZPAYY_Bs
6Sorrow (UK)
Shinigami

http://sorrowgarage.bandcamp.com/album/shinigami-e-p
7Indigo
Symbol #7

Blackburn dropping number 7 in Auxiliary's Symbol series, with another excellent example of Autonomic drum and bass. RIYL dBridge, Consequence, ASC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_akndZNPPY
8A Made Up Sound
Malfunctions

They say that a label is only ever as good as its roster (which of course makes sense), so it's no wonder that 50 Weapons has seemingly become the world's biggest label over night. Signings from Anstam, Cosmin TRG, Shed and now AMUS (2562), as well as their recent Modeselektion vol. 2 comp shows that the Monkeytown boys have a fine ear and even finer tastes. Here's AMUS going ghost-tech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvjgGYpBunE
9Julio Bashmore
Au Seve

Bashmore returns to chop up floors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnigNbYVQJE
10Dusk and Blackdown
High Road

Oh hai there Burial, what are you up to? Oh you know man, just picking up the award for most obvious guest performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O19fEKrkq2k
11Stumbleine
Ghosting

Comp of his early material. http://stumbleine.bandcamp.com/album/ghosting
12Locked Groove
Different Paths

Never has there been a more apt name; sex house on lockdown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thQSPgEmWEo
13Emptyset
Medium

God damn I love Emptyset. Woefully overlooked drone-based rhythmic ambient music for people who fapped a little too hard over Oneohtrix's latest LP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8LKgDNkK7o
14Boddika and Joy Orbison
Dun Dun/Prone

While Froth/Mercy might be the cream of the crop in regards to B & J's (hurr hurr) output this year, on its own 'Dun Dun' might be the bigger tune; it's actually stupid how good these two go together. The night definer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYZa2E_5HqU
15Bok Bok
NSMIX001

http://nightslugs.net/2012/04/23/nsmix001-bok-bok/ - and for those of you who ask nicely I might be able to supply you with the cued version of the mix ;)
16Elgato
Zone/Luv Zombie

Those of you who checked out Ben UFO's RA mix might remember a great little tune on it by the name of 'Blue'. Well the man behind that is back, with more deliriously tripped-out minimal house beats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daWgpI1bZb4&feature=related
17Maya Jane Coles
DJ-Kicks: Maya Jane Coles

If I ever bothered to put comps on my end of year lists this would definitely be on there. As the reigning queen of house music (sorry Paris, you got a ways to go yet honey) Maya continues her reign with one hell of a mix for the long-serving Kicks series. Continuing on in much the same vein as her earlier RA mix, she drops one of the freshest collections of deep and tech-based house music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQkNB7JkdUE
18Funkystepz
Royal Rumble

Demented garage licks from one of the craziest (and coolest) outfits out there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWen2AogEck
19Dark Sky
Black Rainbows

A tune for the year, and another big release for Dark Sky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=higvzlJlxvw
20Emptyset
Trace: 2005-2009

More for those who fapped just a little too hard over Oneohtrix's latest, this time a comp of some of their earlier work. (Their earlier stuff is more "beat-based" though) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8Kh1gdTaRc
21Deleted Scenes (UK)
Hysteria/Reasons

It's Pinch & Distance, I mean what do I have to say here......words etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5vN4SI6vAw
22Pinch
FabricLive.61

Speaking of Pinch, his FL mix seems to be a little under appreciated here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oys__txjOVY
23Visionquest
Fabric 61

Whoever added this to the db needs a slap. Anyway, truly one of the great fabric mixes, here's a taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7kU09SOWS4
24Black Box (UK)
Transmissions Vol. 2

I've never been the biggest fan of this whole "deep yet heavy dubstep" renaissance, guys like Distance and Kryptic Minds perfected it years ago, and this new breed (while talented producers) are essentially just following the blueprint to a tee. Black Box (one of the chief labels behind this new school mentality) are a solid label though, and the new Transmissions comp (DJ Madd curated the first one) is a solid pairing from the best of their output over the last year or so. Tunes from Biome, Kryptic Minds, DJ Madd, Commodo, J:Kenzo and more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-oPTNBWmEU
25Tempa
50 Tracks Of Tempa

If you have even a passing interest in dubstep (yes dubstep, not North American clownstep), then you NEED to get this. One of the most definitive labels in the scene just dropped one of the most comprehensive aural histories that you have to have. I already have all these tunes and I picked it up. https://bleep.com/stream/50+tracks+of+tempa
26Jon Convex
Idoru

Another fantastic release, another dodgy Tornado rating (maybe a banning is in order?). Anywho..... Jon Convex is/was one half of Instra:mental (the other of course being Boddika), and in the space of roughly a year and a half he's made quite the name for himself with an excellent Fact mix and half a dozen or so fantastic 12". And already, here's the debut LP... and it's fantastic. Tech house meets electro (no, not electro house): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57J6rO-EDpU
27Untold
Change In A Dynamic Environment 3

It's roughly on par with Part 2, and it features Untold's craziest balls-out freaked techno yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vfh1iDEp5U He's also just compiled a rather excellent mix for RA which you can download (legally) here: http://ra4.residentadvisor.net/audio/RA324_120813_Untold-residentadvisor.net.mp3
28The Future Sound Of London
Environments 4

Over 20 years into their career and where the likes of Orbital and The Orb have either turned into shells of their former selves or almost disappeared entirely, FSOL once again release an album that wouldn't sound out of place stacked up next to their "glory days" (re: Lifeforms).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJrZ2iHmIgk
29Boddika
Acid Jackson/Basement

He'll probably never be quite as good as when he's teaming up with Joy O, but on his own he still manages to craft some exciting old school electro tunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2hc7XT6qGc
30Deniz Kurtel and The Marcy All Stars
The Way We Live

How I love to love Deniz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJcJxIhoaSQ
