| My Musical Progression
This is how my musical taste has developed sine grade 7. You may notice a drastic change this last year, when I discovered sputnik. | 1 | | Silverstein Discovering The Waterfront
This was one of the first bands I heard in the post-hardcore genre. This along with Hawthorne Heights was my first experience with "hardcore" vocals.
This was early grade 7. | 2 | | Underoath They're Only Chasing Safety
This was when I started to dive into the genre. Started finding better bands like Blessthefall (one of my favorites.) Saosin, Chiodos and Dance Gavin Dance. | 3 | | I Killed The Prom Queen Music For The Recently Deceased
In grade 8 I got into metalcore. Mostly very generic stuff in the beginning, Gwen Stacy, Oh Sleeper, A Plea For Purging, etc. Mostly christian metalcore. | 4 | | Job For A Cowboy Doom EP
Enter deathcore, in grade 9, Job For A Cowboy hit me and I loved it. I felt so big listening to it. Along with Suicide Silence and Whitechapel (and many others) I thought I was as hard as it got. | 5 | | The Faceless Planetary Duality
Then I started getting into more technical deathcore like Born Of Osiris, Veil Of Maya, etc. I don't think this was much of a progression from the other deathcore but it is a little. | 6 | | Architects Hollow Crown
This album made it clear to me that metalcore was the genre for me, even though I'm not sure and this may be deathcore. I started listening Underoath again (more recent albums), Misery Signals, etc. | 7 | | Between The Burried And Me Alaska
I recently got into progressive metal like this and Protest The Hero.
I've been thinking about trying to get into Cynic, Converge and Opeth. | 8 | | Explosions In The Sky The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
This is a big change for me these days. I'm new to post-rock but I'm really digging it. I've also been getting into some indie like: Death Can For Cutie (Transatalanticism), Minus The Bear (Planet Of Ice) and Brand New (The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me).
Recs for both of these genres would be appreciated. | |

10.14.09 | Nice dude, I jumped straight from rap and nu-metal into metalcore and then into death. Now you can name the genre, and I pretty much listen to it. As for #7, you pretty much have the trifecta of sputnik metal right there: BTBAM, Opeth, and Converge. | Mordecai.
10.14.09 | Just skip post rock and go indie | TomServo
10.14.09 | i've been thinking of doing a list like this for awhile too. some good stuff. Seeing that the silverstein came out when you were in 7th grade makes me feel so old! it was my first year of college! | Thor
