Beautifully Black

The skater turned rapper/producer comes into his own on this record. Church
Billy Woods has been an underground New York staple for two decades now, and when he's not curating forward-thinking releases on his label Backwoodz Studioz he's continuing to showcase his incredible ability to weave narratives over whatever beat is beneath him. This isn't my favourite release by him, nor his most impressive, but the fact that he followed up the near-perfect Aethiopes with this in the same year is a real testament to how talented he really is. | | 16 |  | Moor Mother and Billy Woods

I Told Bessie
Elucid has been a solid companion to Billy Woods in Armand Hammer for some time now, but with "I Told Bessie" he finally comes into his own as a solo artist. Paraffin

Pray for Paris
Westside Gunn is (in my opinion) the most important player in rap right now. His own output is incredibly consistent, and his curation as an executive producer, label owner, and fashion designer is next to none in the scene. As solid as all his records are, there's something about Pray For Paris that just sticks out to me, and I would say it's must listen for any modern rap fan. | | 23 |  | Mach-Hommy
Pray For Haiti
This a perfect example of Westside Gunn's impressive vision for curation. A previously tired-sounding Mach-Hommy is born again and drop's by far the most impressive album of his career, the run off which produced the almost equally as good Balens Cho (Hot Candle's). | | 24 |  | Armani Caesar
THE LIZ 2
Griselda's first lady, Armani raps with ferocity over another perfectly curated album from Westside Gunn, further proving herself as more than the sum of her previous endeavors. | | 25 |  | Rome Streetz
