I like this list. I was just disappointed when it started off with the old school crowd before falling quickly into the old class. Need to give the credit where the credit is due |
Jash
05.11.12 | "So here are 15 artists, ranging from new up and comers in the scene to veterans who have helped shape it's sound." not to mention this scene just really started taking off in the last few years Dev so really 1 to 8 are all some figureheads in the genre |
Deviant.
05.11.12 | Huh? Dude this is how dubstep started out, waaaay back to like 2000 |
Jash
05.11.12 | Dev in the last few years the scene has split and taken a darker vibe than that of Mala ect, that's what I'm focusing on. Instead of focusing on the fact I didn't make a 50 artist list ranging from everything back in 2000 maybe you could be stoked that someone other than yourself knows a good amount about dubstep on this site |

great list btw |
Deviant.
05.11.12 | "Dev in the last few years the scene has split and taken a darker vibe than that of Mala ect, that's what I'm focusing on."
There's been no split. People like Mala and the DMZ crew went off and pushed the dub influence further and further, and people like Skream, Benga and Distance began pushing it into darker territory. 4 onwards on your list haven't created anything new, they've just returned to the sound that came before. the only difference being that some of these guys come from the drum & bass scene so they're bringing their influences from that with them
I'm always stoked to see dubstep lists that don't just throw up the same tired shit, but in terms of information this list is pretty misinformed. Plus I'm always going to be ragging for the old boys, because there's no school like the old school. You can't do an introductory without acknowledging how a genre or sound got started
"that someone other than yourself knows a good amount about dubstep on this site"
I'm sure someone's going to label me as a cunt for this so this could be amusing, but you know a lot of artists |

05.11.12 | Just wondering, information is wrong here? |
Deviant.
05.11.12 | You seem to think that the guys in this list are working exclusively in some kind of separate spectrum of dubstep. I mean sure, compared to the majority of the artists in the American scene but in terms of the UK sound they're not producing anything different that should see them being treated separately.
Love you too Mordy |
Jash
05.11.12 | It's a scene within the genre, that's exactly how i stated it. I'm not trying to say this is some sub-genre that's taking dubstep somewhere else, just trying to introduce people to a scene in dubstep they probably don't know about. |
Deviant.
05.11.12 | You'd be surprised how many people are aware of the fact that dubstep isn't just Skrillex and his menagerie of cohorts here |
Jash
05.11.12 | I know there's a fair amount of people, but considering i had to add most of these artists to the database not a lot of them know about the artists i just listed |

05.11.12 | But just out of curiosity, what scene is this exactly? And how is it separate from , idk, other dubstep? |

05.11.12 | Now that I'm all of a sudden into this music I should re-check 2 |
Jash
05.11.12 | These are all guys who play shows together and release music on the same labels, i had all the labels written down and i was
going to list them all but figured that would be of little use to any people too lazy to go do further research themselves. And if
you're gonna ask that then i must ask, how is it that Brostep considered something else from dubstep then? it's the same idea
Dev, a different sound within the 140 realm. Can't we just agree that the songs slay and be happy??? |
Deviant.
05.11.12 | It's not like we call it Brostep because it isn't dubstep (even though, elitists will argue that it isn't dubstep at all), we just call it that because we think it's shit! And yeah the songs slay, I was just a little confused as to what the intention of the list was. If you were just pulling a "hey, check these guys out" thing then awesome, it just seemed like you were trying to fit these cats into a continuum all of their own
But speaking of slaying, Youngsta's Rinse mix is fucking boring :( |

05.11.12 | "It's not like we call it Brostep because it isn't dubstep (even though, elitists will argue that it isn't dubstep at all), we just call it that because we think it's shit! "

05.11.12 | @Dev It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, thats for sure, but on a whole it's still an enjoyable listen for me. I just wish he would've gone more outside the box with his track-listing and just mixing as well |

05.11.12 | "i like the term "future garage" that rym uses to describe more contemplative dubstep - the description is pretty top notch too imo"
Future Garage isn't a term to describe mellow dubstep or whatever - Whistla coined the phrase when him and his L2S crew started bringing proper 2step back. Tbh the term is kinda superfluous though, nothing wrong with just calling it Garage again |
sifFlammable
05.11.12 | i understood the nuance difference to be that 'future garage' was a more contemplative re-hash of garage/2step |

05.11.12 | Eh, some artists like Submerse like to use a lot of strings and whatnot but it certainly isn't a requirement of the genre

05.11.12 | Good list man. When I listen to dubstep at home, it's usually the more mysterious, atmospherical type (eg. Burial, Clubroot,...), but this dark, dangerous sound is my go-to party music. |
TMobotron
05.11.12 | Sweet stuff on this list, I feel like a lot of people are tired of the older dubstep sounds so a lot of this stuff isn't praised the way it would've been years ago which I understand but I really like this kind of stuff still and and I love most of these. I really liked that Dark Tantrums medi release too which has a similar dark and heavy style. One of the best things off that label in a long time IMO.
The pure physical weight and impact of tracks in this style today(and a few on this list) are unmatched by anything else out there and that's what I like most about it. |
