Jethro42 04.09.21	Most of the soldiers progressively left the sput building during last few years, helas. It's even really hard for us to regroup 16 people during Friday's prog tourneys. There are also a fair amount of young progheads who are too discreet to participate to any activities on here. I won't force them. Anyway, I'm willing to do a part II for this list. Should be ready soon enough.

Divaman 04.09.21	Have you checked the new album by Echo Tail? I haven't heard it yet, but I just bought the digital album (sound unheard) from bandcamp. Not only is it prog rock, but it's the band of a fellow Sputniker, Final Origin.

My fav song of theirs is Chaumont-Sur-Loire from their first album which is pastoral in nature. I've listened to Malady a couple weeks ago. Not bad at all. Might add it into my second list to come. I guess you added it to the database. Many thanks for all your addings. @Titan; You're a good music lover, that's what count. Consider 24, 25 and 29 for now. I'd have other recs, but I'll wait to see where you're at with these. If ever you don't have enough, take 8, 9 and A.C.T. (for not saying 13) with you.

Friday13th 04.11.21	No surprise it’s a great list from the ones I’ve heard. Just the other day looking at the big 90s Scandanavian prog bands like Anekdoten and Landberk. 17 is notoriously difficult to find an affordable copy for sale. Is it even available for legal digital download?
Friday13th 04.11.21	@TheNotrap a lot of us still lurking around. I plan to do another prog tourney in May, so be on the lookout. A lot of us are just getting old. I also wager the prog scene in general has just passed one of its many revival period. I think when big names like Steven Wilson and Opeth were making retro prog albums from around 2011-2016, prog was getting a good amount of buzz. That energy has slowly tapered off. Tool’s Fear Innoculum might be the last hurrah for commercially viable prog. Even bigger names like Dream Theater’s and Transatlantic’s new albums were met with underwhelming responses, commercially speaking. That’s my big picture overanalysis, anyway!

Jethro42 04.11.21	Hey Friday, nice to see you, and glad to hear you talking about your next tournament . As for a Landberk copy, I got mine since its release for around 25$. I'm not aware for digital download. About prog that decrease, I'm surprised because most of prog artists don't make music for the money, but only for fun and to keep being creative. They usually have a ''real'' job apart of music, to finance the latter. It's true that prog gets repetitive and seems out of resource. Neal Morse is not inventive since is few recent albums. I stopped listening to his music that keeps turning around. Inspiration has quitted most of the big names of modern prog. Inspiration turns round and round and is used. The only subgenre that seem to survive well is neo-prog, because they keep on renew themselves with what perpetually inspires them; vintage 70's prog which is a sure and safe root. The rest of prog is inspired by bands that are NOT INSPIRED ANYMORE. I think prog is there to stay if inspiration is staying alive.

Sure, prog should continue indefinitely for those who love the music, and new artists will certainly take up the mantle. I agree, mainstays like Neal Morse are growing stale. I’m just trying to explain why there is less excitement for prog than a few years back. Good new releases that were also well-known increased the overall traffic, including interest in older bands.

Jethro42 04.12.21	I know where you're coming from, Friday. Prog always need a boost from somewhere to regain a general energy. To retake the example of Neal Morse, he was one of the source where I quench my prog thirst. Now he just keep doing the same song again and again. If I'm not changing the channel, I'll stop listening to prog. I need another source than the 70s too, because I abused to it a bit. Now I stick to modern music for a change, and it's full of gems. So I keep on progging healthy P/ Divaman, it's sad but true. It might be the last one. We got to choose a judicious nominee in order to win or at least to be somehow qualified for the finals... I'll get mine from this list or from my part II.
e210013 04.12.21	It seams to me that you have here a great list with many great prog things. Now, I can see what you wanted to say about a surprise. Yeah, it's true. I really found a surprise, a real and a very tasteful surprise, to see my beloved album of Quarteto 1111 on it. It's really great to see that I'm not the only one here who loves it. About the list, you have here great prog albums really and that I love too. I'm especially talking about the albums from Anekdoten, La Coscienza Di Zeno, Ingranaggi Della Valle, After Crying, Gosta Berlings Saga, Landberk, Echolyn, Universal Totem Orchestra and Fabio Zuffanti, despite some others coud be mentioned. By the way, you also can find two surprises with two of my reviews. I publised today a review about "Mathematical Mother". It has nothing to do with your list but it was a happy coincidence. It was one of the reviews already chosen by me to my path about the modern prog and it was already decided be publisned today. My next review it will be another album from your list. It was in my list and it will be another happy coincidence too. I'm sure you will love to see a review of it on Sputnik.

I've simply followed my 4, my 4.5 and my 5, without including classic 70's prog bands (by classic I mean the big names) neither jazz laden, and here's the result. A list with bands to discover, and mostly modern stuff for all the progheads taste. There will be a part 2, with some other surprises, cheers! @Rolling Girl, glad that you find of your taste on here. Icebound is not bad, but it's more commercial with all the same beat throughout. I have a lot more pleasure to listen to 5. It's an eclectic kind of prog. It goes with different tempo and variety, and it's dark, with enthusiastic passages. Musicianship is stunning. if you dig, try also 7. Cheers!

I'm talking about Karmic Juggernaut, Dogma, Jordsjo, Not A Good Sign, Procession, Caligonaut, Et Cetera, Solar Project, Airbag and Ellesmere. As you can see, and since you told me that all the albums in this list are at least a 4 to you, it seams I'm going to have a very hard job to check al these when it was possible. So, thanks my friend. You and Friday will be both responsible for put me busy, at least till the end of this year. Lol. Again, nice work. Karmic Juggernaut, Caligaunot, Solar Project and Ellesmere are recent discoveries of mine. I bumped down Airbag to a 3.5/5, so keep this one for the last. -Karmic Juggernaut is a bombastic, eclectic album. Odd time signatures. Probably my favorite of them all. -Dogma was inspired by Genesis, but it's more commercial. -Jordsjo is reminiscent to Anglagard, but more acoustic. Probably a top 2 of those you don't know. -Not a Good Sign is spacey or tight, similar to King Crimson I would say. Great musicianship. -Procession contains 2 gifted guitarists. Great melodies. Some mellotron in some songs. -Caligonaut is rather folk with interesting prog patterns. -Et Cetera is a GG that GG haven't done. Gentle Giant II -Solar Project is a concept album about time. Floydian guitar. A top 2 of those you don't know. -Ellesmere is a modern mellow symphonic album. I still have to listen to it.
