Nagrarok
11.27.10 | Nailing the cover art with a 100-item list. Fuck yeah. One per artist obviously, it would get too complicated otherwise. |
JWT155
11.27.10 | 97. |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | Now that I think about it, 97 actually came out in '97. |
JamieTwort
11.27.10 | List rules! |
TheJackal
11.27.10 | So many classic songs here, can't really go wrong with that
too many songs I like from this list to name them, but I will say one thing: Rush rules |
Buccaneer
11.27.10 | 18 should've been Behind Blue Eyes man |
bloc
11.27.10 | Sweet list; 68 is my all time favourite song. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | Wow! Awesome list, especially the first half, due to my advanced age haha.
Not all the time agreed with the choice of your songs, but my list would contain like 80% of these bands.
Major props for the 2nd half: 57, 58, 60, 65, 71, 72, 74, 75, 76, 83, 86. |
foreverendeared
11.27.10 | lots of good and bad here tbh
more good than bad though |
Crimson Death
11.27.10 | Good list. Hallowed Be Thy Name, Symbolic and The Moor are all beyond fantastic. |
taroo
11.27.10 | Pretty awesome list |
starry
11.27.10 | Doesn't really cover the century, really it's 100 songs of the last 45 years.
Just looking at the start I would pick 'Don't talk put your head on my shoulder' ahead of 'Wouldn't it be nice'. |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | Well, pop music wasn't really big until the 60's, was it? |
EVedder27
11.27.10 | awesome list, with you on a ton of these |
bungy
11.27.10 | Nice job |
ShadowRemains
11.27.10 | whoa nice list, some great stuff here |
Gyromania
11.27.10 | Very conventional, but you have a lot of great stuff here. I actually prefer the latter half of this. |
starry
11.27.10 | "Well, pop music wasn't really big until the 60's, was it?"
No, it was big before then. Some of the most acclaimed songwriters of the century wrote back in the 20s/30s. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | lol 20s/30's |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | Let me rephrase.
Pop music wasn't really BIG until the 60's. |
starry
11.27.10 | I would definitely strongly prefer 'When Doves Cry ' to 'Purple Rain', and Bittersweet Symphony I've always found annoying with it's repetitious nature.
For Joy Division I would take one of the better songs off the Closer album. And I would take a different Simon and Garfunkel song. |
DiceMan
11.27.10 | Do you like classic rock? |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | staaarry staaarry staaarry
|
starry
11.27.10 | I think I'd pick Dreamer by Supertramp, from the same album I think.
Who are you talkin' to Diceman? |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | 'And I would take a different Simon and Garfunkel song.'
Such as? Their best three are easily Sound of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer.
I think that's general knowledge Dice. |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | And Dreamer is great, but School has such energy, the build-up gets me every time. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | AND YOU'RE FULL OF DOUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuubt |
bloc
11.27.10 | The Boxer is the best |
starry
11.27.10 | 'Bridge over troubled water' would certainly be a strong consideration, but they did some other big ones. What about 'The Dangling Conversation'? That has some craft musically. |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | They have many great songs, but I've never considered that one as a classic. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | This is my personal fav by Uriah Heep, while we're at it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sejmOZVxusY |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | It's hard to choose only one of each, really. Regarding Simon & Garfunkel, Sound of Silence might be my choice, but they are plenty of gems, like most mentioned on this list, so yeah |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | I love Heep's rich organ sound, quite similar to Deep Purple at their prime. Their lyrics can be a little cheesy though. |
Gyromania
11.27.10 | Such as? Their best three are easily Sound of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Boxer.
It's a solo song, but "Bright Eyes" destroys all three of those, and "Cecilla" is better than "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and "The Boxer". |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | I never paid attention, since lyrics are in English
=P |
starry
11.27.10 | I haven't really got into Uriah Heep, but it's a lively song and well arranged, maybe the melody isn't that memorable but they get the song across quite well. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | ^Cecilia is a fucking good call |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | "Cecilla" is better than "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and "The Boxer".'
No way man, Cecilia is one of their best, but that's going too far. I must say I've never heard Bright Eyes though. I assume you mean a Simon solo song?
'I never paid attention, since lyrics are in English'
Of course, hehe. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | That being said, I know all the Genesis (Gabriel era) songs by heart...but sometimes I dunno exactly the meaning of what I'm singing héhéhé |
starry
11.27.10 | I love Bright Eyes, I like many 70s ballads. Mike Batt wrote that song though, so no Paul Simon connection. Going with the more emotional epic ballads you could look at America by S&G too. |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | 'Going with the more emotional epic ballads you could look at America by S&G too.'
I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but if it was, I've heard all of S&G's albums, America is one of my favourite songs of theirs. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | America....AMERICA!! This is for you, Nag:

11.27.10 | list= hip to the jive |
Terrifyer
11.27.10 | u would know all about that |
Nagrarok
11.27.10 | I know that Yes cover actually Jethro, it's a bonus track on the remaster of CTTE. It annoys me though, I strongly dislike Anderson's vocals in it. |
Jethro42
11.27.10 | ok, I have that rendition on my 'Yesterdays' compilation, and never dug it either. |
qwe3
11.28.10 | woah so many good songs |
BigHans
12.09.10 | I think my head just exploded. |
seifer
12.09.10 | to think i've listened most of these but 100 never even heard about that band |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | It's because they're one of the most popular bands from my country. |
seifer
12.09.10 | so where are u from and what kind of sound is it? |
BigHans
12.09.10 | I count 14 exact similarities to my top 100 song list, thats alot. |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | 'so where are u from and what kind of sound is it?'
Holland, and it's a bit of a mix of rock and pop.
'I count 14 exact similarities to my top 100 song list, thats alot.'
I wouldn't have been surprised if it were a few more. |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | And also my list doesn't include anything from 2000 onwards. |
seifer
12.09.10 | holland nice country and will give it a spin |
JamieTwort
12.09.10 | I reckon between 15 and 20 of these would make my list |
BigHans
12.09.10 | we have about 60 similar artists, just different song choices for some |
seifer
12.09.10 | glad to see kyuss in here |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | 'holland nice country and will give it a spin'
let me know what you think and all that.
'I reckon between 15 and 20 of these would make my list'
Make that list. |
JamieTwort
12.09.10 | will do at some point |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | 'we have about 60 similar artists, just different song choices for some'
Yeah, if you consider that 14 is quite an achievement. |
seifer
12.09.10 | yeah and glad to see some love for helloween
POWER METAL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! |
Nagrarok
12.09.10 | Love the power metal every once in a while. |
BigHans
12.09.10 | IM ALLIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE |
seifer
12.09.10 | yes i mean who doesn't like some cheesy lyrics from time to time |
Sepstrup
12.16.10 | I like the first half of your list much more than the second. Needs more indie rock and hiphop, less cheesy bands like Live, Tears for Fears etc. for my taste. |
Nagrarok
12.16.10 | Indie is something that goes better with the last decade for me, hip-hop has never been my thing. Also, as much as Live may have degraded later, Throwing Copper is an essential 90's album. |
mandan
03.31.13 | Yeah Nag, I see you tend to be the moody/introspective type when it comes to music (I would've chosen "Even Flow" as my PJ fave over "Black", though Ten pretty much rules as a whole). I've my introspective side, but am more upbeat in general. |
mandan
03.31.13 | Oh, and Plush is my fave STP song, props for that. |
InbredJed
03.31.13 | Throwing Copper is an essential 90's album (2) |
