| 10 Saddening Songs
10 songs I find to be very much saddening/depressing and lal those other words. when i say this though, i'm not so much talking about the actual music as i am talking about the material trying to be explored/shown...idk, anyone else get that?? haha | 1 | Anathema Pretty Much Every Song
Let the wrist slitting begin with these guys... | 2 | The Cure Prayers for Rain
Only The Cure can use a vocbulary such as "shatter, dull, suffocate, desolate and drab" in one verse. possibly the most painful song in their set list | 3 | Bruce Springsteen The Wrestler
This song tailors to the movie and actor micky rourke so perfectly it's scary. the overall mood of just being old and wore out and being seen as a nothing is just a experience that many don't want to face | 4 | Pearl Jam Last Kiss
Though I should give full props to Wayne Cochran, I think Pearl Jam was able to expand on the sound a bit and turn this true story car crash in to something powerful | 5 | Nine Inch Nails Hurt
You saw it coming, the defining song of loneliness and dispare; Cash's version also truely haunting | 6 | Stabbing Westward Goodbye/Crushing Me
I couldn't really decide on which song to choose so I decided to go with both. though a pretty large collection of SW's set list are very bleek in topics, the sense of lonliness and giving up are promenent in these songs | 7 | Red Hot Chili Peppers Under the Bridge
Like "Hurt", another expected song. the memories of depressing time is a hard thing, and the emotional reminder for Anthony in this song is very heart-felt | 8 | Bloc Party Biko
Again, memories, they suck. espcially when it was somehting out of your hands such a cancer, and Biko conveys that pain beautiful in this song with the bland use of "Not Doing this Alone" harping in the backround | 9 | Death Cab for Cutie What Sarah Said
Things happening out of your hands, this song of impatient few waiting in a waiting room on the word of a loved ending with a downnote that's very touching at the same time | 10 | Streetlight Manifesto As the Footsteps Die Out Forever
See 8/9 about dying loved ones, and you'll get the jist | 11 | Lionel Ritchie Hello
Who hurt you Lionel...who hurt you? who hurt you? who hurt you? | |

04.24.09 | I really like this list. You could have added songs such as Waking Up Beside You and Sometimes It Hurts for Stabbing Westward as well. Anathema definitely takes the cake on the most depressing songs. | Altmer
04.24.09 | excellent list | PuddleSwimmer
04.24.09 | Goodlist
It may not sound as depressing, but This Is The Place is probably more depressing than Under The Bridge
:(
The man has been through a lot of bad stuff | Tits McGee
04.24.09 | Red House Painters
Low | Mendigo
04.24.09 | yeah, 5 is easily the most depressing song I know. the others here that I know are all really really sad as well.
I'd add Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets) by Neil Young, One of Us Cannot be Wrong by Leonard Cohen and The River by Bruce Springsteen. also Viorar Vel til loftarasa by Sigur Rós, but it depends on my mood whether I find it to be extremely sad or just beautiful. | Mendigo
04.24.09 | oh yeah, and goddamn Red House Painters. Katy Song is so sad it's painful. | Metalstyles
04.24.09 | this list could use unloco - texas, but otherwise good | shindip
04.24.09 | jane says is kind of depressing | mothergoose
05.05.09 | That entire Death Cab album was pretty depressing actually... and kudos for putting Anathema at #1. Too many "sad songs" lists leave them out, and they are hands down the masters of misery. | idbz
05.11.09 | 10 was originally done by Catch 22 |
