My musical journey thru 2015

A lot of good stuff and utter trash dropped this year like every other year. Also haven't gotten the chance to listen to a bunch of shit on my radar since because work has been so crazy.
1Icarus the Owl
Pilot Waves

Haven't given this the full listen yet, but I'm loving the variety this has. Although I prefer Kris Crummett's mixing job on their ST, 4 albums and no huge missteps makes this band a real treat
2Freddie Gibbs
Pronto

This is such a nice little EP. A bit more of a mainstream feel compared to Pinata but Freddie pulls it off well. Three fire tracks, with White Range being on my playlist constantly. 4/5
3King 810
Midwest Monsters 2

The most hilarious thing I've bumped all year. awful all-around but the Gibbs verse was hungry tbh. 1.1/5
4All That Remains
The Order of Things

All of Phil's outspoken-ness set aside, this is painfully mediocre and the mix is kind of bad. but I'm not seeing why it's as awful as people say. 2.5/5
5Buckethead
The Moltrail

I can't keep up with the guy this year. I heard he is putting out an album every day in October, holy fuck. Anyways, there's some really long intense jam tracks here with solos. Pretty par for the course 3/5
6From First to Last
Dead Trees

I thought Throne to the Wolves was pretty neat. While the mix was better here, it's clear that they watered down their sound to become Periphery-lite for Spencer. Not awful, but a disappointment.
7Lapalux
Lustmore

Dug this a lot, but I don't know too much about this genre. Recs are appreciated on this
8CHON
Grow

Awesome, I loved the inclusion of a revamped Perfect Pillow. I wish they'd mix in more of their older, more spastic style with their newer, clean sound though. 4/5
9Godspeed You! Black Emperor
'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'

This is absolutely awful for casual listening, but if you have the time to invest in it, it's a gorgeous record that maybe could have shortened the noise sections just a tad. 4/5
10Tyga
The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty

Listening to this, along with most of his albums, it's clear that this pedophile has at least a shred of potential. Even with all the solid production and other tools he's given here he'll never fully realize the flashes of quality he shows. 2.4/5
11The Underachievers
Evermore: The Art of Duality

This is criminally underrated. It's cool how, at least from my listening, it's separated into a more personal half, and a closing half dedicated to bangers.
12Coheed and Cambria
The Color Before The Sun

Definitely not their best, definitely not their worst. Atlas and Peace to the Mountain are great. It's also insanely catchy, dat chorus in Eraser. 3.6/5
13Trivium
Silence in the Snow

I used to be a HUGE Trivium fan when I was 12. I hated their last album. This was a big surprise, it's still pretty cheesy but it riffs really hard. 3.1/5
14Jay Rock
90059

Jay Rock is a very consistent rapper. His last album was solid, but was a bit all over the place and overlong. This is a nice cohesive package (I like nice packages) with a fire Black Hippy track. 3.7/5
15The Afterimage
Lumière

A unique blend of other people's sounds. 3.5/5
16Dance Gavin Dance
Instant Gratification

Great to have Kris back on board here. As a huge fanboy this is an awesome culmination of all their sounds. My one complaint is that Tilian's choruses could have been catchier for the most part, I found myself more stoked for Mess's parts 90% of the time. 4.4/5
17Refused
Freedom

I'm not sure if I don't get it or something. I love TSOPTC. Everything here sounds nice enough but it's REALLY boring for their standards. 3/5
18Fetty Wap
Zoo Style

Lacks depth perception 2/5
19Drake and Future
What a Time to Be Alive

Two talented guys here. I heard this was made in 5 days or 2 weeks or something. Unfortunately, while there is some quality here, it all sounds so rushed with tacked on verses. 30 for 30 is by far the best thing here. 3/5
20I The Mighty
Connector

way better production than Satori. I enjoy the experimentation sometimes too. I'm not really sure which album I like more atm. 4/5
21August Burns Red
Found in Far Away Places

imo this is Leveler's experimentation done correctly with a way better mix. There's a lot of the same here, and I found myself hard-pressed to remember many standout moments, but I definitely enjoyed it in the moment.
22The Black Dahlia Murder
Abysmal

I haven't bothered with this yet, is it just more of the same? Solid at least?
23French Montana
Casino Life 2: Brown Bag Legend

I shouldn't take this one seriously but it was hella repetitive and brought the ZzZs 2.1/5
24Twista & Do Or Die
Withdrawal

All you really need here is Aquafina but still fast verses 3/5
25Dr. Dre
Compton

Even though I would've liked to hear more of Dre on the mic, this was definitely the best output we were gonna get from him, a lot of great tracks here. 4/5
26The Dear Hunter
Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise

My first Dear Hunter album, and wow, I was blown away. This is definitely the most colorful thing I have heard all year. Delving into their discog soon. 4.5/5
27Kendrick Lamar
To Pimp a Butterfly

Hard to digest sometimes, but it deserves the circle-jerk it's receiving, definitely a limp biscuit I would eat. 4.5/5
28Joey Badass
B4.DA.$$

loved it
29Sleeping With Sirens
Madness

I don't know why I tried. After Feel's terrible production I was excited for anything from them with a better mix. Sadly I don't think they are even able to produce something at the standard of their first two even if they wanted to. 2.5/5
30Young Thug
Barter 6

Expected to hate this but it was pretty catchy for the most part despite being pretty fucking dumb. 3/5
31Fightstar
Behind the Devil's Back

Haven't listened to Fightstar yet, good place to start?
32OG Maco
Tax Free

Short, but has some terrifying bangers
33Auras
Crestfallen

Some catchy djenty metalcore. Nothing groundbreaking, but these guys are close to home and crazy talented. 3.6/5
34Wale
The Album About Nothing

underrated album from an irrelevant rapper, the Seinfeld inclusions are really weird but they work somehow.
35Buckethead
Rotten Candy Cane

The best thing I've heard from Buckethead this year, has a variety of his styles on display. 3.5/5
36Lupe Fiasco
Tetsuo & Youth

My first full Lupe album, a bit overlong but it was well-crafted. Mural is absolutely insane
37Action Bronson
Mr. Wonderful

Terry and Baby Blue >>>>>>>>.
38ASAP Rocky
At.Long.Last.A$AP

4/5
39Tyler, the Creator
Cherry Bomb

This was good sometimes, but I have no idea what the hell is going on or what he was trying to achieve here. 3/5
40Oceano
Ascendants

a decent mix, and not terrible, but insanely plain. 2.5/5
4150 Cent
Get Rich or Die Tryin'

does anyone else watch Power? I'm on season two now, pretty fire show
42The Game
The Documentary 2

stoked to hear this
43Gorod
A Maze of Recycled Creeds

also insanely stoked for this
44Slaves
Routine Breathing

AOTC
45Deafheaven
New Bermuda

loved sunbather so also gonna try this okay bye
