09.23.13 | 23 song setlist, not bad not bad
I would have loved:
-Apartment Story
-All Dolled-Up in Straps
-Daughters of the Soho Riots
-Exile Vilify (pretty sure they never play this one, or Dolled-Up) |
Aids
09.23.13 | oh and Slipping Husband/Lucky You/90 Mile Waterwall but I knew they wouldn't give Sad Songs much attention. Super underrated album, even by them... |
Trebor.
09.23.13 | did the brass player have a trumpet, piccolo, tuba, or all three? |
ShadowRemains
09.23.13 | hmm, not as disappointed that i missed this considering what you say about the sound and no geese of beverly road |
clercqie
09.23.13 | Damn, nice set. Dissappointed I won't be seeing them this year. |
Iamthe Nightstars
09.23.13 | It's funny you post this because I just saw this show the other night and agree with everything you said. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=230408&listid=131408 |

09.23.13 | trebs there were two. One trumpet player and one with a trombone. No tuba, I'm fairly certain.
nightstars - fuck! that sucks man I figured the sound issue was a one-time thing. they need to get it together cause they sounded huuuuuuuuuge when I saw them in 2010. they were definitely lacking something tonight, still solid though. |
Aids
09.23.13 | I was sort of ok with them skipping Apartment Story (even if it is their best song) but add that to the fact that Frightened Rabbit didn't play Good Arms vs Bad Arms..... cmon team, get it together. |

09.23.13 | scene from the show i went to:
aaron: "this next song is off of sad songs for dirty lovers"
crowd: "OMFG!!!"
matt: "wait...what?"
aaron: "oh wait, nevermind"
the end : ) |
avonbarksdale221
09.23.13 | Mostly epic setlist, sucks the mixing was average though. |
blastOFFitsPARTYtime
09.23.13 | Yeah, dece setlist, and FR opening would make for a fucking beaut gig. Definitely couldn't be 100% satisfied without at least one or two Sad Songs, though, agreed. |
Treeman
09.23.13 | how was slow show live cause thats just about the best song to ever be created |
insomniac15
09.23.13 | I am digging them a lot at the moment. I'd love to see them live this tour while they're still playing most of Trouble Will Find Me. |
TheNexus100
09.23.13 | moar alligator! |
TheGreatQ
09.23.13 | They played Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks as the last song when I saw them, but it was 11 and they weren't going to be allowed to play because of the noise ordinance in Columbus. But they got permission to play it acoustic and it was amazing. |
zakalwe
09.23.13 | Saw the acoustic Crybaby Geeks at Brixton in 2010 and despite me mumbling along with the lyrics and feeling awkward it was extraordinary. |
Skoj
09.23.13 | AIDS: they played Exile Vilify in December of 2011 in NYC, I recorded it. |
Aids
09.24.13 | yeah they played Vanderlye acousitcally and it was fucking magical, seriously
skoj: !!!!!!!!!!!!! no fucking way!!! we were fantisizing the whole concert that they would play that but we all agreed they probably don't do it live. I would have cried, that's amazing!!
and yeah more from Sad Songs would have been nice, but even they underrate that album so it wasn't surprising. Still, Slipping Husband fucking rips. How is that not a main-stay in their set?
treeman - it was fucking great (one of my top 5 National songs for sure, reminds me of my ex :'(
but, like the rest of the show, the mixing was poor (not average: poor) so there's that. was great to see it live though, they didn't play it last time. |
tommygun
09.24.13 | nice setlist shame about the mixing matey |
Aids
09.24.13 | larry - that fucking sucks, I would have been upset |

09.24.13 | epic set. only time i've seen the national (coachella a couple years ago) the sound mixing sucked as well and berninger was shitfaced. really want to see them in a proper venue |
Aids
09.24.13 | what the fuck? I was lead to believe they were always awesome live. I saw them at Sasquatch (massive venue) and it was prefect, so I don't think the big/small venue argument carries much weight (though it would make sense for them to be "better" at a small, preferably indoor venue). Matt is always shitfaced but he usually keeps it in check. Like, he was really drunk last night, but he kept it together (if you discount the few times he wipped the mic, and stand, into the audience). Just the right side of entertaining for me.
Another note: he was absolutely belting it out during Abel, Mr. Novermber, etc. Nice to see he can still scream haha. |
tommygun
09.24.13 | lol apparently he gets through a few mics and stands
