Outliers: The Story Of Success
Anybody else read this book? I started today and am already about
halfway done, a fascinating read. List is albums I plan on reviewing in
the near future. If I'm not lazy hopefully i'll have them all finished before
the end of the summer.
I feel as if the two reviews already posted for this do not give it justice. This is a
one-man "nintendocore" /ambient/psychedelia project which is surprisingly well-
composed. Presents the video game theme in a nostalgic, albeit crude/dark
manner which might as well be told through the eyes of a stereotypically pissed-
off videogame nerd. In a good way. Looking at a 3.5-4, and in my top 20
releases of 2010 thus far.
The Mirroring Shadow
I should have reviewed this sometime last year but never got around to it. The
follow up to the enjoyable "Your Demons, Their Angels" shows no progression,
and dissolves itself amongst the 343348 average, run-of-the-mill death metal
bands. In that case it's well done but it's pretty unremarkable. 2.5-3.
Mardraum - Beyond the Within
Had this for a while but didn't start really listening to it until recently. This very
well could be my favorite Enslaved album, a good bridge to the gap between
their black metal beginnings and newfound progressive oddities. 4-4.5.
At the Edge of Time
I surely won't be the only one to review this (I prefer to review albums which
are void of any reviews) but i'm pretty strongly anticipating this release. "A
Voice in the Dark" was a solid song and i'm hoping the rest of the album is even
I already reviewed and submitted this a week or so ago, don't have any others
started or in mind currently. Definitely check this out if you had any interest in
his last album, or even if you didn't, I found it to be a much more focuses effort.
A marvelous french progressive rock record which is one of my personal
favorites of 2010.
200 lists? goddamn
never heard of it, what's it about?
It goes into depth on a very wide variety of topics, but in a nutshell it explains the luck and statistical advantages certain uncontrollable happenings (such as date of birth or where somebody grows up) affect one's personal success, intelligence, etc. I'm not much of a reader but it's pretty fascinating stuff, and a lot more interesting that what I just described haha. It's 2 AM and i'm having a bit of trouble processing thoughts.
haha yeah i've had it for about a month, these are tentative reviews for me except the last which I already reviewed
yeah its a real good book man,
sounds intriguing. might pick it up after i finish my summer reading books, high school english classes be damned
I AM reading it for my HS senior English class haha (though it's a college course), I picked a few good ones.
I meant I'm reading Outliers for my English class, along with The Tipping Point (also by Malcolm Gladwell) and Freakonomics. I'll look into that book you mentioned though if I find I enjoy reading again. I also have House of Leaves if I ever find myself with nothing else to do this summer.
your comment wasn't there when I started writing it, I was responding to august
I have re-found my love for reading, just finished Ham on Rye (Bukowski) fucking awesome read..
any rec's other than the Stranger guyz??
none really man, i'm kinda just getting back into reading too.
I almost chose the category that had "Brave New World" in it simply because of the Iron Maiden album of the same title but chose the other three instead.
cheers, have seen brave new world on a few lists recently, suppose I should check it out then. thanks
yes I have, classic
