System Of A Down - Top 30

I don't give these guys nearly the credit they deserve anymore. rThanks for rbeing one of the bands to get me into music in the first place m/
1System of a Down
Lost in Hollywood

A remarkably restrained song that brilliantly comes off as understanding and
forgiving despite dealing with some bitingly cynical subject matter. Lost in
Hollywood shows great restraint and maturity by never exploding the way most
System songs do, but at the same time, the slow crescendos that do happen are all
the more intense for it. I also feel the need to point out how wonderfully the full
band's vocal harmonizing throughout the whole song is arranged; absolutely
stunning. Serj's descending line in the outro is especially chill-inducing. And one of
the least SOAD-like SOAD songs takes the top spot.
2Question!

One of the band's more complex songs, jumping time-signatures multiple times.
One of Shavo's most entertaining performances on the bass. Serj of course does
not disappoint with on of his most loose-cannon performances on Mezmerize. A
very intelligently put-together song.
3Holy Mountains

I would cite Mezmerize and Hypnotizes as the weakest two System albums pretty
quickly, yet the top three spots here are all going to go to songs from those two
albums. Holy Mountains is one of the longest songs SOAD have recorded and
transitions seamlessly from dark and forlorn to frightening and cinematic all within
a singular verse. The chorus rivals that of Aerials as one of the most majestic
they've ever written, and the bridge includes some absolutely terrifying screams
from Daron.
4War?

Fucking classic.
5Innervision

Daron's axework really drives this song, and the way Serj's more subdued
performances acts as counterpoints to its chugging rhythmic performance is
mesmerizing.
6Prison Song

One of the most exciting album openers ever. Repetitive and redundant and
repetitive, but unparalleled energy.
7Aerials

One of Daron's most massive guitar riffs. Just a massive-sounding song all around
actually. Fucking m/
8Forest

Serj lets out some impressive shrieks here.
9Mr. Jack

That goddamn riff.
10Spiders

The guitar solo to the final chorus is wonderful.
11Ego Brain

Probably one of the least weird System songs. The interplay between the light
verses and the hugely catchy chorus works quite well.
12P.L.U.C.K.

WALK DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN
13A.D.D.

Gotta put the acronyms next to eachother. A little redundant, but energetic as all
hell. Would have loved to see this song performed live.
14Needles

The opening one-two punch of Toxicity is one of the best on any album. Song is
fucking insane.
15Chop Suey!

I've definitely overplayed the hell out of this song over the years, but it's System's
most well known song for a reason. The climax at the end is still very moving.

17Toxicity

I feel like this should be higher than 17 but fuck too late now song rules.
18Dreaming

One of the few real highlights on Hypnotize is really fucking good. Soaring chorus
with System's trademarked weird fucking verses.
19Nuguns

I remember when I first got into SOAD several years ago this was one of the songs
I never payed much attention to. Definitely wrong of me. The middle-eastern flair is
pretty m/ in this song.
20Sad Statue

SOAD definitely didn't riff as hard on Mez/Hyp as their first three albums. Except for
this song. Jesus fuck.
21Soil

Serj at his incomprehensible best.
22Tentative

Obliterates with the monochrome verses before soothing with one of Hypnotize's
most epic choruses.
23Know

Still John's best drumming probably.
24Suite-Pee

The weirdest fucking album opener. Vintage System.
25Roulette

They only ever made like, 3 or 4 soft songs, but Roulette is remarkably good.
26B.Y.O.B.

My most played System song at nearly 200 plays. It was my introduction to the
band back in 04 or 05 (whenever it came out) and I was hooked to how unique
System were compared to all other bands who garnered airplay. It's definitely a bit
of a sloppy song, but it riffs harder than most of their newer material.
27Bubbles

Best System song under 2 minutes. Catchy as dick.
28Highway Song

A very rhythmically-driven song. I suppose it could be considered one of the more
subdued songs in their discography.
29Science

No one makes songs as redundant as this as fantastic as System.
30Attack

The riff is so fucking wanky but it's awesome because it's System.
