Early 2014

I haven't been keeping up with new releases as compared to last year but rthese are what I've heard so far. List is sort of ranked and a lot of these rrequire to some additional listens to cement my true feelings on them r(looking at you Swans).
1The War on Drugs
Lost in the Dream

Easy favorite so far. It's just too perfect.
2Trophy Scars
Holy Vacants

Only listened to this a few times but it's pretty obvious there's something special here. Further
listenings may reveal it to be a classic.
3Manchester Orchestra
Cope

Much more aggressive than anything they've done before. There's no "I Can Feel a Hot One" to be found
here. I haven't been blown away with this as compared to their earlier works but it's still a kick ass release.
4Insomnium
Shadows of the Dying Sun

I'm sucker for melo-death and these guys pull it off so well. Nothing new here but still a solid
album.
5Thee Silver Mount Zion
Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything

In a time where there's not too much new going on in post-rock, these guys still
manage to create unique sounding stuff.
6The Menzingers
Rented World

I can already tell this will be getting a lot of spins this summer.
7Conor Oberst
Upside Down Mountain

Just heard this last night but I really loved it. Has he potential to move up.
8Buckethead
Monument Valley

Melo stuff from Buckethead. One of the better ones from the Pike series.
9Swans
To Be Kind

I've never tried harder to like a band than I have with Swans. I'm almost to the point where it's
going to "click" I think. Hope it's worth all the time I've put into it.
10Crosses
Crosses

Most of this can be found on earlier EP's but it's still beautiful stuff. Chino's voice=sex.
11Have a Nice Life
The Unnatural World

Another one of those I need to listen to more to get a more clear opinion on it. I remember
enjoying it but I can't recall a single thing about it.
12Alcest
Shelter

Alcest went full shoegaze with pretty good results. Sort of drags by the end though.
13311
Stereolithic

Not much to say here, pretty standard 311. I'll still listen to this a ton over the summer
though.
14Behemoth
The Satanist

Only listened to this a couple times. Another one of those where I liked it, but can't
recall it that well.
15Buckethead
Rainy Days

More melo Buckethead.
16Tycho
Awake

Not bad by any means, just not as good as his previous albums.
17Cynic
Kindly Bent to Free Us

I actually think musically this album is incredible from a technical point of view, but nothing
really sticks out to keep you coming back.
18Moonlit Sailor
We Come From Exploding Stars

I fell asleep while listening the first time, then felt myself falling asleep on the
second try. Don't think I'm destined to finish this.
19John Frusciante
Enclosure

Pretty disappointing actually.
20Bong
Stoner Rock

Heavy drone that I haven't felt compelled to listen to again.
