Top 10 of 2021
My favourite albums of 2021 (will contain some unpopular choices I'm sure).
Being the only person of my Friends and Family that listen to anything remotely heavy, I've had nobody to discuss many of the albums that I've enjoyed.
I'd also gladly appreciate any alternatives to the list of albums where better examples of the 'genres' have been released. |
10 | | Devil Sold His Soul Loss
This album had a lot going for it, one major factor being I had no idea these guys were back making music and it was one of those albums that as soon as I found out it had been released I immediately stopped what I was listening to, the speakers were turned off and the headphones came on. A band that is very consistent in their quality of output and this is possibly my favourite of their discography. |
9 | | Spiritbox Eternal Blue
This one was the album I anticipated the most of this year and thus it suffered from the pedestal I'd already placed it upon before hearing. I think the reason for much of my disappointment was just how surprisingly 'accessible' and almost 'mainstream' I found a lot of tracks on this album and therefore just not as interesting, however, the quality of their tracks are still way ahead of the curve in my very humble opinion. |
8 | | Wolf Alice Blue Weekend
One that was on the calendar and a noted release of this year. It did not disappoint and is probably my favourite album of the 3 they have released. |
7 | | Architects For Those That Wish to Exist
So here it is, possibly one of the most unpopular albums of the year from many a 'metalcore' follower/fan......but I loved it. I am honestly never bothered when an artist 'changes direction/sound', whether it be lighter, heavier or experimental it never effects my own assessment of an album on its own merit. This album is just one I can repeat and play again and again (but I can understand the disappoint of many). |
6 | | Erra Erra
I'd not (and am still not for some reason) a fan of this band's previous releases, however this album's whole mood just grabbed hold of me and I love listening to this one. |
5 | | Scarypoolparty The Act of Forgiveness
Completely out of nowhere, I have to thank this site and it's diverse audience for pointing this album out. Whilst I agree with most, it plays for too long and my own attention span can wander. However, I can listen to this album in 2 halves and it's just a beautiful piece of work. |
4 | | Trivium In the Court of the Dragon
A band that I'd fallen out of love with the last few releases, not that they were disappointing records, I think personally I just needed a break from listening to them. So imagine my surprise when this released and I decided to give it a spin and lo and behold it completely made me fall in love with them all over again. |
3 | | Turnstile Glow On
A surprise one for me, not that I don't like this particular 'genre', I just didn't think this would have such an impact on me. Many reloads on this one, especially in its first month of release. |
2 | | Mastodon Hushed and Grim
A band I can honestly say that for my taste, has never released a poor album and this one is no different. A long awaited release for this year and it did not disappoint. |
1 | | Every Time I Die Radical
Just a great punishing album with all the signature elements that have made ETID such a staple in Heavy Music. |
