Early Dolphy with Booker Little who tragically died at the young age of 23. This is early Dolphy so he was just starting to branch out and free his jazz so to speak. Fire Waltz is superb. 21 minute version of Like Someone in Love on the second volume.
Only the third album by Blakey I have it is far superior to the other two. Moanin' is masterful. Is it just me or did Davis take a lot from Moanin' for So What?
I'm not the biggest fan of piano in jazz and that's probably why this didn't wow me like I was expecting. Seemed tepid to me but I'll listen to it some more.
Same as previous album. It's weird that these two are considered masterpieces but I just can't get in to them. Once again these are first impressions so I've got a lot of listening to still do. I hope they'll grow on me.
