Lamb of God Ranked

The first band that I called my favorite. 17 years old with no responsibilities jamming LoG all summer like it was nobody’s business. Those were the days.
1Lamb of God
Ashes of the Wake

The Magnum Opus and breakthrough for Lamb of God’s discography. "Ashes of the wake" is one of those albums that’s impossible to hate. I don’t care whether you like thrash metal, black metal, or death metal, you will enjoy the hell out of this masterpiece. “Ashes of the Wake” was a masterclass performance by everyone but especially Chris Adler and the man himself Randy Blythe whose vocals peaked during the recording of the album. Every song stands out and the lyrics are meaningful and poetic. The album is heavy as hell but not overwhelming for people who don’t necessarily like extreme metal subgenres.
2Lamb of God
Resolution

Probably the most underrated LoG album, Resolution is overshadowed by both its successor and predecessor albums and contains a higher concentration of neck-breaking riffs than most other LoG albums. Particularly on “Guilty” and “The Undertow”. Despite flying under the radar of LoG’s discography, the album produces other tracks like “Ghost Walking” and “Desolation” which are amongst their catchiest and best songs.
3Lamb of God
New American Gospel

Another overlooked album, “New American Gospel” is very dissimilar from the other LoG records due to it’s degraded production (nothing like 90’s black metal don’t worry) and Randy’s unintelligible vocal technique. It may be offsetting to some but as a death metal fan it certainly appealed to me. Overall the record is rawer & more abrasive than others. Highlights include staple track “Black Label” as well as “In the Absence of the Sacred”, and “Letter to the Unborn” which features one of Randy’s most interesting vocal deliveries.
4Lamb of God
VII: Sturm und Drang

The first record since Randy’s release from prison, “Sturm und Drang” was sure to be a personally evocative and thought stirring album, and it was. Just not necessarily in the form of melodic breaks and tear-jerking guitar solos. Instead in the form of Randy’s lyrics which reflect on the time he served in Czech Republics Pankrac Prison. A theme evident in the album’s flagship song “512” named for Randy’s cell number. Overall the theme of the album sets an eerie atmosphere which contributes to the listening experience. Best track is “Still Echoes”.
5Lamb of God
Sacrament

Sacrament is Lamb of God’s most commercially successful album. Not hard to imagine given the fact that it hosts their most famous songs “Blacken the Cursed Sun”, “Redneck”, and “Walk with Me in Hell”. I used to jam the shit out of the latter, but with that exception, the remainder of the album didn’t have too much appeal to me. Many LoG fans would be likely to put this record first without hesitation, but I just can’t help but think it’s overrated. Oh, by the way, the music videos for this album were cringy.
6Lamb of God
Wrath

Kind of pisses me off when people call Lamb of God a metalcore band. Not that I have anything against decent metalcore, its just that I can’t imagine being that misinformed. However, this is the only, ONLY LoG album that remotely has a metalcore sound to it, but that’s not why I don’t love it. “Wrath” for me contains a lack of memorable songs in my opinion, with the exception of the masterpiece “Grace”. Again, it’s not that the songs are bad by any means, I simply cannot help but see this album as a watered-down version of “Resolution”. Still a 6/10 nonetheless.
7Lamb of God
As the Palaces Burn

Another one that seasoned fans would place closer to the top, “As the Palaces Burn” was LoG finding their sound. After releasing the bruiser that is “New American Gospel”, the band took their first steps toward the groove metal sound we know & love. The sense of experiment is maybe why this album is less appealing than the bands material once they had established and defines said sound. I take away “Ruin” and “Vigil” from this album but besides that, I see this album as the Virginia outfits least memorable.
