09.26.18 | Also diva you have to give me another rec because I've already heard Shrine |
Divaman
09.26.18 | All right. So last year, as I recall, when Papa U was still Unique U, I posted a list like this, Papa offered me 150 recs or so (although I begged him not to) and I agreed to pick one (1) of his recs and give a whirl. It didn't go well.
This year, I'm willing to do it again. (Unless you just want to take the win from earlier in the year with Red Lama, and leave it at that.) So shall I pick one? I've got my eye on one, although it's outside of my usual taste range. |

Papa Universe
09.26.18 | I suppose, if it comes down to only one, pick one of these:
L.A. Salami - The City of Bootmakers
Vowws - Under the World
The Slow Readers Club - Build A Tower
Flying Horseman - Rooms/Ruins
Damien Jurado - The Horizon Just Laughed
Get Well Soon - The Horror
Melody's Echo Chamber - Bon Voyage
Hookworms - Microshift |
Divaman
09.26.18 | No, it wasn't one of those. I'll add:
Balsalte - Vertige |
Papa Universe
09.26.18 | you like lengthy noir blackened death metal?
I thought you'd pick something more Red Lama-like... or at least that'd be a safe choice |
Divaman
09.26.18 | What's that, secretary? Papa guarantees I'll like that one? Bless his heart, he's a good man. |
Papa Universe
09.26.18 | well, can't argue with that, but I have concerns about Basalte...
oh well, you do you (me) |
BlazinBlitzer
09.26.18 | Sounds like you need a little bit of these:
Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog
Thee Oh Sees - Smote Reverser
Father John Misty - God's Favorite Customer |
Lucman
09.27.18 | Jamming 8 right now myself. I'm utterly confused by the low ratings. It could snatch up my third 5 of the year. |
Divaman
09.28.18 | You'll be surprised to know I'm actually liking the Basalte, Papa. I'm not normally much for metal, but this is very atypical. I'm also not usually big on dirty vocals -- when these guys start trying to sing actual words -- it usually sounds silly to me, like if the goblins from The Hobbit were trying to front a band. But this guy is just vocalizing pained sounds, like he's having a horribly painful Primal Therapy session, and he's just trying to scream the dark feelings out of him. |
Papa Universe
09.28.18 | you got me, I am surprised. |
Papa Universe
12.01.18 | okay |
Divaman
12.01.18 | Still working through. Haven't been posting ratings here, but I've been rating them as I go along. Up to the Elle King album. Unfortunately, as always happens, I've had to add about 10 more albums to this list since I posted it. |
Papa Universe
12.01.18 | okay |
