R.I.P. Justin Townes Earle, 1982-2020

Americana signer/songwriter Justin Townes Earle died yesterday at the age of 38. No cause of death has been announced yet. Earle gained attention largely by association with his father, the legendary country artist Steve Earle (the younger Earle's middle name was a tribute to the late, great Townes Van Zandt), though the two had a fairly fraught relationship and the younger Earle built quite a name of his own over the course of 8 studio albums. I never connected to much of his music but I love a handful of his songs and the outpouring of support and tributes in the country/Americana community has had me pretty damn bummed out today. Any death is sad but 38 is way too fucking young.
