09.17.15 | Dream Theater because Metropolis Pt. 2. |
Tunaboy45
09.17.15 | tool without a doubt |
Friday13th
09.17.15 | Dream Theater. They have more variety in I&W and Awake than Tool's entire discog...which is very small admittedly so maybe it's not that impressive lol |
chemicalmarriage
09.17.15 | Tool |
altertide0
09.17.15 | not even a contest. |
porcupinetheater
09.17.15 | Because when it comes to the instrumental side of music, technical ability is the only thing worth discussing. |
altertide0
09.17.15 | the choice is between
1. a rather unique even if criminally overrated mix of prog rock and alternative metal
2. cheesy musical masturbation, which now that i think of it is also overplayed
not a tough decision tbh |
Valkyrion
09.17.15 | I don't care for either, but dream theater |
beefshoes
09.17.15 | I love DT's first few albums, but I haven't had the urge to listen to any of the post-SDOIT albums for many years. I also love Tool, but I'm rarely in the mood to listen to them; I'd much rather listen to ISIS or Neurosis.
Opeth is my favorite band of all time though, and I've listened to Opeth on a regular basis since 2008. |
KingdomOfTyrant
09.17.15 | tool, without a doubt |
AlexKzillion
09.17.15 | I don't think James LaBrie is a BAD vocalist at all, but he sounds cheesy as hell when Dream Theater goes all heavy in Train of Thought onward. |
FacelessMan
09.17.15 | Danny Carey >>>>>>> portnoy[2] |
Mystletainn
09.17.15 | Neither |
Mythodea
09.17.15 | Dream Theater: + Accessible / Fun / Virtuosic / Sometimes extremely good / Variety
- Cheesy / Boring for the last decade / Imbalanced
Tool: + Virtuosic / Esoteric / Mind boggling / Many Times extremely good
- Same over and over / no album for the last decade |
UnderTheNorthernScar
09.17.15 | Aenima>Awake>all other tool & dream theater |
ChoccyPhilly
09.17.15 | Well Tool don't have large chunks of their discog that are overtly cringeworthy or even cringeworthy at all, unlike DT...
But DT don't make me fall asleep, so DT for me |
TalonsOfFire
09.17.15 | smh Choccy |
chemicalmarriage
09.17.15 | Honestly both bands need to try harder to entertain me tbh. |
Rik VII
09.17.15 | definitiely Tool. I really like Dream Theater, but Tool is on a different level.
but yeah, agreed. Opeth is better than both. |
UnderTheNorthernScar
09.18.15 | Yeah Still life is on a different level than any material from either band |
TheCrocodile
09.18.15 | Yeah, it's lower. Fight me. |

FlyheadMetal
09.18.15 | i like dream theater more |
TheSpaceMan
09.18.15 | "Songs such as Right In Two, Prison Sex etc. have such great lyric"
those are some of the worst tool lyrics tho |
InFlamesWeThrash666
09.18.15 | i vote Dream Theater coz Tool is the most boring band i've ever heard |
Flugmorph
09.18.15 | Tool & opeth any day. DT suck |
Itwasthatwas
09.18.15 | Tool is about a million times better. They get compared but really shouldn't be. One is a band that couldn't write a decent song to save their lives (DT) that gets overhyped for their technicality. Tool is incredibly restrained as far as progressive rock goes and theres a much stronger focus on songwriting. When I listen to aenima or lateralus, I hear a unifying vision for the album's sound and what they're trying to accomplish. When I hear a dream theater album I hear a bunch of elements slapped together that the various members think are cool. |
Cryptkeeper
09.18.15 | Tool > Opeth > DT |
NeroCorleone80
09.18.15 | Opeth > Tool >>>>>>>>>> Dream Theater |
TheCrocodile
09.18.15 | "Tool is incredibly restrained as far as progressive rock goes and theres a much stronger focus on songwriting."
Not to be a dick, but seriously all of their albums have filler songs or stuff that isn't restrained at all. And Jesus Christ Awake is more song-driven than any Tool album... |
UnderTheNorthernScar
09.18.15 | Awake is life |
trvvve
09.18.15 | tool is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring tho |
Totengott
09.18.15 | Opeth > Dream Theater >>> Tool |
Snowdog808
09.20.15 | I prefer Dream Theater generally, but I like both. I'd rather listen to Rush, Symphony X, and Yes though. |
Rawmeeth38
10.12.15 | both are overrated [2] |
Knave
10.12.15 | Tool beats the piss out of Dream Theater. LaBrie's voice sucks and all the songs noodle far too much. |
MyNameIsPencil
10.12.15 | both are technically good but really annoying |
